I'd appreciate some advice and info on the latest Magic Lantern installs for my Canon 600D.  I haven't used my Canon for video for quite a while and I did have an early ML version 2.3 installed which worked fine - thanks again to the ML team!  Checking again I'm now seeing references to a 'Nightly Build' for the 600D which I understand has Audio Meters and even an option for headphone output.  The most recent one seems to be dated August 7, 2017.

I'd love to have at least the live Audio Meters but I'm not a risk-taker with audio and don't know exactly what the status of these Nightly Builds is.  If they work fine and are stable why have they not been incorporated into the current version of Magic Lantern, which still seems to be v2.3? 

Does anyone have a suggestion as to the most recent and most stable Nightly Build for the 600D which includes Audio Metering?  Maybe the most recent one if fine?  I know that there's an installation guide at the top of this thread, but wondered if there there are any unlisted special precautions that need to be taken when installing compared to the normal ML v2.3?

If you read the contribution I referred to from deletedAcc.0021 you may understand why I used the word 'stable'.

Does anyone know which stable nightly for the 600d is being referred to here, and where it can be found?  I'm not interested in RAW.

This is what I have done.  I have a nightly release that I compiled back in early June (without raw), that I use daily on commercial shoots. And I have a Tragic Lantern version (with raw) for personal use.  I have yet to find any bugs with the feature set that I use in either release.

I've recommended the same nightly to several 600D users that wanted to upgrade from 2.3 and (knock on wood) they haven't had any issues either.  I call it a "stable nightly".

Edit:  with exception of the occasional pink frame shooting raw, but I don't consider that a bug .. more of a camera limitation.

Although I've read the wiki and checked online I'm still confused about the Magic Lantern 'PictureStyle' and 'REC PicStyle' menu options.

If, while in setup or shooting, I want to always see the 'Standard' Picture Style on my Canon LCD, but to record in a flatter style like CineStyle or the ProLost settings do I:

1.  Set 'PictureStyle' to 'Standard'

2.  Set 'REC PicStyle' to my User Defined, flatter, e.g. (0, -4, -2, 0) Picture Style.

Or to summarise - Is PictureStyle for monitoring and 'REC PicStyle' for the recorded result?

That's really useful and I'll give it a try later.  It's really hard to find information about this 1% 'feature'.

So once I've copied ML2.3 to the exFAT card I just have to copy across the autoexec.bin from Tragic Lantern and  it should record HD beyond the 4GB limit?

Have you tried it for long recordings, and were you happy with the result?  Do you know where to find the latest version of the g3gg0 tool to fix the extended recording?  I'm on a Mac but I've a feeling that the 'fix' tool is for Windows.  Anyone know if  this is true or if there's a Mac version?

I think I found the download site for your work on Magic Lantern (https://bitbucket.org/OtherOnePercent/tragic-lantern-2.0/downloads), but I'm not sure which file to download, or exactly how to install it on a formatted exFAT SD card.

I've done a lot of googling but can't seem to find any step-by-step info anywhere.  As you've probably already gathered, I'm not a techie, but I am able to follow instructions.

I'm guessing you're referring to your builds as one of the nightly builds?  Does the latest nightly build contain your code?  If not, can you give me a link to the build that has the exFAT extended recording time option?

When I download it do I just follow the steps outlined in my first post, is there a step-by-step somewhere, or any 'must dos'?

I'm trying to install ML2.3 on a 16GB Sandisk Ultra card formatted in ExFAT but can't seem to get  it to work. My main objective is to get extended recording time, hopefully up to 16GB, on this card with my Canon 600d.  I'm not really concerned about audio or RAW, although extra functionality would be nice.  I already have ML2.3 working normally with my 600D on a different FAT32 SD card.

I think I'm following the instructions correctly, but when I put the card in my 600D and select 'Update Firmware' I get 'Cannot find the firmware update file' message.
Here's what I'm doing:

1.  Format the card in Disk Utiity to ExFAT

2.  Run Macboot in 'DSLR boot' mode and 'Prepare' the card.  Everything seems to run fine and I get a 'success' message.

3.  Using Finder copy the unzipped files from ML2.3 to the card.

4.  Put the card in the 600D, prepped for ML install, turn it on and select Firmware Update.  It can never find the update file.  So I remove the battery and start again. Always the same result.  I've also tried the suggestion of replacing the 'autoexec.bin' file to the one referred to below, but without success. I get the same error message.

The only thing I find strange is that the other FAT32 card I normally have in the 600D has ML 2.3 already installed, and when I put in the new ExFAT card my Canon Firmware shows 1.0.2-ml-v2.3.  Should this ML firmware be displayed even if I've removed my ML card?

I'm afraid I have to make one red-faced confession - it never occurred to me that I had to have my lens set to 'AF' for this to work at all.  I'm not really an 'AF' person and tend to focus manually.

In addition, as you comment about the correct buttons underline, I was working from a combination of YouTube tutorials and the Magic Lantern User Guide from this site, and obviously the buttons used have changed as the firmware moved towards completion.  So the YouTube tutorial I was using told me to use the + and - buttons, but I should have been using the 'Left' and 'Right' arrow keys.

Even so I found grasping exactly how to do 'Rack Focus' difficult, and sometimes in the middle of setting it up I'd press the wrong button and be back where I started.  I did manage it once today, so I know it works, but have not had the time to keep trying.  I found that fine-tuning the focus was very difficult, and was not so much a 'fine-tune' as a 'rough-tune'.  So I think I need to read it all again very slowly and try to understand what role, if any, the various step sizes play in this fine-tuning.

ML2.3 is an amazingly sophisticated and powerful utility and a great addition to my Canon cameras, but I sometimes find it a little overpowering in practice. 

I think I should take a weekend and read that User Manual carefully from end to end.  Can't help feeling that there's a really good gap in the market for a proper ML2.3 tutorial series online or with Lynda.com or some other such provider.

Can someone please help me with the 'Rack Focus' option on a Canon 600D, 50mm 1.8 in manual focus mode, with ML 2.3?

I've watched YouTube tutorials and read the user guide but can't get it to work.

For some reason I can no longer get my 'Magic Zoom' window to display either, although I've set it to work on Focus and Zoom.  I do sometimes see the 'Magic Zoom' window but I don't know why it's sometimes there and at other times is missing.  I did at some earlier stage get a full screen version of Magic Zoom (which I like) but could never get it back again.  when I focussed it gave me a full screen image of the zoomed in area, and it was great for focus.  I can force the small Magic Zooom window to appear by selecting 'Always', but I'd prefer to have it appear only when I attempt to focus.

I'm following the Wiki User Guide instructions for ML 2.3 and picking the End Point of the focus change.

Then I go to Focus End Point and press Set which sets it at 0.

Next I try to focus on the Start Point using the + and - magnification buttons.  But instead of focusing it just enlarges or  shrinks the image as it normally does.  So I can't focus on e.g the foreground.

Can anyone see what I'm doing wrong?

Let me apologise in advance for the long post, but I wanted to try and explain what I'd like in detail.

I'm very impressed with the professional presentation of Magic Lantern 2.3, and with its stability.  But the range of options is making my brain bleed, and although I'm pretty clear about what I want to use, I could do with some help or pointers to a tutorial on the best way to set ML 2.3 for a Canon 5DM2 and a Canon 600D.  I'd like to make a permanent video setup that I can save somewhere (preferably on my Mac), and then hide the unused Magic Lantern options.

These are the features I want to use permanently:

I'd like to be able to set up a series of permanent combinations, including an 'AutoEverything' with safe AWB, Audio Auto Levels, Normal Picture Style etc, set a 'default' and switch between them..  From what I've read on the site ( http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=1729.0 ) this should be possible using 'Display Presets' to set up to 4 'shooting states'.

I'd also like to have Picture Styles as part of those combinations including e.g. ProLost.

Arrow Keys Quick Shortcuts - Push WB, Kelvin, Aperture, Shutter, ISO.

Full screen Zoom (I've seen it, but I'm not sure how I got there)  for focus check at x5, x10 on manual Focus (I presume this won't work with purely manual lenses?)

Limit Digital Zoom to 3x and have it selectable.

Various crop marks as an option (using Display Presets?) for 16x9, 2.39:1, and maybe a custom crop.

Zebra at 70% with Fast Zebra and Original slower striped option (Use Display Presets for this too?)

Audio Meters

Monitor Audio using headphones (I understand this is not possible with my 600D).  Can I do it on my Canon 5DM2?

AGC Off and Selectable Input Source.

Auto-ReStart

Just wondered if anyone  has set up ML 2.3 with these settings and hidden the rest, and the best way to go about it.

It won't be added in 2.3 as 2.3 is already out. If that feature proves to be stable it will probably be part of the new 2.4 ML release or whatever it will be called.
ML 2.3 is a stable release which means no new features, just bug fixes for now

I'm not a techie, so wasn't sure if it might be possible to 'add' it into the already seriously impressive ML 2.3.

Have you any info or a link to info on my other questions?  I've done some Googling but can't turn up anything on this exFAT extended recording feature.

This is the first I've heard about this exFAT possible option.  I have a 600D and noticed you do too, and mentioned that it's working on that model. 

Can you explain a little more?  Is it possible to add this option to the new ML 2.3?  If so, are there downsides to the extended time exFAT recording?  Is it stable and reliable?  Are we talking about a max of 16GB?  That would be terrific, if it was possible.

G3gg0's hack lets you record 16gb continuous on T3i, I incorporated it into my build. He is working on extending it to other cameras (there is a test build up). I think it *should* be working on everything that supports exfat. 30 minute limit is still there but that is a big file. Movies have to be patched afterwards.
