I should really attempt the 550D at some point.
This comment is also a note so I can refind this thread.

Raw Video / Re: pink sun?
May 01, 2017, 11:14:35 PM
No there's not. One comes across the same problem with standard canon CR2s. You've probably never noticed because whatever program you use probably corrects it for you. Its because you've dropped the whites so dark. Find the highest point of the green channel and either make it the whitest point or clip the red and blue channels to that green channel.

Apologies for any abruptness, I am on my phone.

You either need to clip highlights or reconstruct the highlights.
Because you have 2 green pixels for every 1 blue and 1 red the greens are exposed at (roughly) half brightness.
Meaning you're left with blue and red in the highlights beyond highlights resulting in the magenta.
You either need to clip the blue and the red channels are the highest green point,
or reconstruct the green into the blue and red points.

So what are the hardware changes that have to be made?
I guess the thing as we still dont know where the canon curve lies as the cinestyle picture style reversed it within the picture style.

Blender has a similar issue with their GPL code. Fanboys of Blender and its GPL licence will type their fingernails off telling people that if your plugin refers to the blender api then your plugin must be also be open source. Stallman himself said that this is not the case. I also wonder how if some company makes some powerful rendering engine why would they open source the whole thing just so it can be used with blender.

I'm keen to get this going on the 550D.

A1ex said (in that thread I think) that that does not yet yield interesting results, but who knows in the future..
Yes I saw that it doesn't compress well.

Words like kickstarter and crowdfunder were banned a long time ago.
Considering you've joined and made one post (this one),
I am sure it will get the same response as every other time donations have come up.

you can probably get help for the 550D there from Greg and reddeercity
I spoke to dfort

Hope that was useful :)
It was, still hope someone else can come along and answer the rest.

Two in two out is the method that does the lossless compression for compressed raw, see first post in that thread.
Ta

I'm assuming a goal would be compression on 10bit if it's possible.

Excuse my ignorance as I didn't follow from the beginning of some of these topics and I'm a little confused.
When it comes to RAW video I'm seeing 10bit 12bit 14bit discussion, 3x3 crop mode discussion, 2K 3K 4K discussion, and the compressed format RAW discussion, also not sure what the two in two out discussion is.
What is compatible with what?
Also what cameras are these compatible with?
I'm looking to port it to 550D.

Also, in terms of crop mode, I know there was a crop mode unlocked for MP4 video so it would take the centre of the picture, my question at the time was does this mean that 1080p can be shot 1080p without it being upscaled, which the answer was no, it was still the same resolution upscaled just cropped in (getting rid of some moire and aliasing problems in a sense.)

Side question, where do I find the atdg module, do I have to compile it myself?
I know there was once talks of a module repository...

Forum and Website / A Magic Lantern Discord?
April 10, 2017, 02:51:20 PM
I know the ML IRC is used quite a bit but Discord seems to be the place things are moving to.
There are other IRC rooms that are completely dead yet their Discord is quite lively in text chat.
Plus there's been times I've had to set up temp voice chats online to try to guide people through things.

Well I guess the original 4K trolls are no longer trolls.
But if 4K is possible that must mean 1000fps is as well.

I like how not only does ML open up the greatness of the camera, but it also opens up the rudeness of the users (some of them).

These people that are so triggered by software that has been given free to them despite the extreme mass amount of code and time that has been put into it.

Somebody who "registers to the forums just to post this" doesn't deserve the benefits of ML for even one day.

And as for wishing "bad karma" and stating "lost respect" the only things the creators of ML have gotten out ML is opening up their own cameras, and they've done it themselves (there's a couple users along the way who have made major contributions), but they don't get money for it and they don't run off money to make it.

If I was one of the ML makers I wouldn't care the slightest of your comments. The fact that a forum post can be opened up like this in the nastiest way "childish april fools joke" (show me a child reverse engineering canon cameras) and then play out in an even more nasty way, the devs shouldn't take it out, just for a big up yours.

If you want to see how a post is correctly opened about this gag, see walters http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=19282.0
But all you had to simply do was state the problem and give a valid reason why this shouldn't be in.

Wonder if it's just a new way of saying "dynamic contrast" (one of the worst inventions ever for LCDs).

I don't think it would still be enough because it's uncompressed data.
If the RAW image could be compressed with jpeg or mp4 compressed then you'd be laughing. :P

Hello
about the 10-bit version, I would like to know if the 550D will be supported and who you reckon a download will be available.
Thanks

It's already there somewhere, tested it a while ago, scroll back through the comments and you should find it.

There are many features for photographers as well.
- focus racking/stacking
- dual iso
- hdr automation
- raw histograms
The list goes on.

If you don't need ML then don't install it.
But there's really little to no risk. (don't quote me on that).
If the devs had a dollar for every time a camera broke they would be broke themselves (citation needed).
#93
Whilst the opposite of 'upgrade' is 'downgrade' I think the opposite of 'update' would be 'rollback' or would it be 'outdate'. :P
#94
I use focus peaking all the time but I always feel like it's not fine enough. I just use the standard one.
I know there was the hires one that turns the whole screen grey? I liked its accuracy but need a picture.

I think you missed Walters mention of CHDK.

MagicLantern IS the port. (kind of :P)

Here's your request already completed long before ML

(as required by the terms of the GPL).

Not to start this argument but; wouldn't the GPL only cover this if it was a modification to ML? As this is a separate module in would be under whatever licence the author chooses.

Yeah the W/B >_< it was essentially like shooting with only one colour channel, or maybe 2 strip. I don't mind the resulting image, however I've never been big on colour grading, I'm more a fan of colour correction and getting the actual colours of the scene.
The ISO was on auto so I don't know the exact number. I usually have the logs for camera settings turned on but I don't think they were this time since I last updated the firmware. I believe it was hitting around 2000, that was while at 1.8/f and around 1/48. I think it looks a little cleaner because I drop the darks into black, plus I shot in 1920x1080 but then shrunk it down to 1280x720. I forgot to turn the bit-rate up as well, would've liked to just bump it up a little.
The rode mic I have definitely fixes the majority of audio issues with the 550D
