Camera-specific Development / Re: Canon 550D / T2i

Maybe it would be better to try it before forcing an update?

Fair call :P

But yeah basically what I meant, that I would test it first.

Do I have to disable the bootflag first in camera to do the canon firmware update?

The mjpeg is what's used to push a live feed over USB isn't it?

I'm thinking of just changing the first post to make it look as if 1.1.0 is the official version (not that I've tried it yet) but just as a force upgrade for everybody.
I don't see a point in there being two branches, and I don't see a point in using old firmware.
Thoughts?

i own a 550D also, it's actually 3:2, in all 3 resolutions (or 6 if you count the different qualities for each resolution)
you can add an overlay in the camera to view the screen in 1:1 but the photos will still be 3:2

Was anything happening with lossless compressed raw on 550D?
And I can't find the main threads on compressed raw anymore, was it ever applicable to anything less than 14bit?

Raw Video / Re: Rolling Shutter 1080p vs 720p modes
December 31, 2017, 12:40:52 AM
I wonder if the A and B timings are different for 1080p and 720p.

Also note that 1080p is 25fps/30fps where as 720p is 50fps/60fps.

Raw Video / Re: Shooting raw monochrome?

It's not exactly in colour, every pixel is in a value form which could be considered greyscale, but it knows which ones are which colours, red green and blue, but the bayer filter filters out the colours for each greyscaled pixel.

I was about to say The Red cameras released a version of their camera with no bayer overlay, but then I looked at the link first posted and I think that's what it is talking about.

I did hear something, it may just be hearsay, somebody carefully scraped the bayer colours off their sensor.

I have nothing valuable to add I just wanted you to know I get so excited when there's a new reply in this thread.

General Development / Re: Porting a Canon firmware update

Is it necessary to keep the 109 stuff in the code if a 110 upgrade is performed?

As far as the dropping the saturation down you lose colour depth. It's like over underexposing.
Underexposing is easier to fix than clipped highlights, but if you're so far underexposed then try to bring it up to a normal exposure you'll get banding.
Considering our eyes perceive contrast more than colour who knows how much it would affect visually, it's already 8 bit and 4:2:0 chroma sub sampled.
But try it yourself, in an extreme case, take any photo, de-saturate it to -95 (and apply it so its destructive if the program doesn't already), and then re-saturate repeatedly til it's roughly the same saturation. Enjoy colour banding for all.

you could make one pretty quickly in the canon picture style editor.
i'd do it and send a copy but I'm on linux so it's a bit of a process.

And 4K trolls used to be the problem :P
Now we (not me, but some people) have 4K and text saying "no sound" is the feature request.

A little late to the party :P But hello!

Isn't both 601 and 709 a reduced luminance? 16 to 235 with chroma being 16 to 240.

Good to hear! I think many people are ready to step up if you need a hand.

My mistake. I responded on my phone and thought this was posted under general help Q&A. But its actually in the general chat. I retract my statement.

I'm very keen for it for 550D. Hopefully to have something that can record 1080p 10bit.
Yeah the discussions on the forums do seem to be around 5d3, but I still think there's interest for Digic IV, they're just not very talkative.
And I think it's also partly due to it working on Digic 5, so people are using it. Where as it doesnt work on 4.
I can imagine Digic 4s becoming popular in discussion if there were things like 2K/4K 10bit and all that hoohar.

Let me know if I can do anything.

Wrong forums, this is for Canon DSLRs.

I'm working on some magic lantern fanfic.

"As the SD card was slid into the unlocked position it was now fully writeable."
#72
Any progress on this? Seems to have stopped still for a month.
Has the way to crop record been discovered yet?
#73
Ah that autofocus option is what I needed, didn't know it existed.
Thanks a million.
#74
I'd like to have a few options for this but depending which is available. I'll list the various here:
1) loud sound triggers autofocus (in live view with face detection), once autofocus completes there is timer delay til it takes a photo
2) loud sound triggers autofocus (in live view with face detection), next loud sound triggers a photo (also with a timer delay that can be specified)
3) loud sound triggers autofocus in video mode with face detection and then starts recording once focus is achieved, if it doesnt find focus another loud sound either triggers recording or another attempt at autofocus

any help?

Can somebody explain in laymans terms what needs to happen to get this to 550D.
And also what exactly is this. Is this for the different bit depths, or for the compressed raw, or for 1:1 pixels.
I'm never entirely sure.
In addition to that, is it compressed raw being referred to as "lossless".
