I managed to find a March 15 2019 build that has crop_rec and the SD overclock stuff. Found a video where a guy was shooting well over 1920 horizontal resolution, but mine refuses to let me set it higher than 1824x764. Why is that?

Hey guys. I haven't played with RAW on the 70D in over a year, or maybe two. What's the current modules folks are running and where can I get them?

Just looking for the quickest, simplest setup to get as close to 1080p continuous as possible. Thanks!

in that case is there any way to implement some kind of compression in-camera to RAW footage? I seem to remember seeing something about it, but I can never find the same info twice and I never know if it's even remotely up to date.

Is there a Facebook group, Google group, or anything else where it's a little quicker to get answers about stuff? It takes ages to find the relevant info here on the forum, and even then you're never sure if it's up to date or whatnot. A chat group sure would be simpler.

Honestly I have a really hard time figuring out what's what on the website. The forums have stuff scattered SO much it's hard to keep up, especially if you're like me and only drop in once a year or so to see what the state of everything is in.

I'm wanting to shoot RAW with my 70D and my 6D, but wanted to know what the best current modules and settings are considered to be.

Also I think I read somewhere that you can compress the RAW video in camera, where can I find info on that? Thanks!

I know that we can shoot in 10, 12, and 14 bit in RAW mode, but is it possible to shoot with better color depth and still compress the footage so that it doesn't fill a card so fast? (6D or 70D are the two cameras I have, if that's relevant).

Agreed, raw will NOT work for weddings, but would be nice for stock footage shoots.

When the 5d3 came out I considered it but lack of flip-out screen was a no-go for me.

Well, I use the 60D because it has a flip out screen. Event video is very difficult without it.

I don't get it. I show it where my RAW files are hit start and it looks like it's doing something but nothing happens. The files are still just sitting there, no DNG files, no TIFF files, no video. What gives?

nope. I switched the camera into 1920x1080 24p in the regular menu and then tried to change the resolution in the RAW video section of ML and it said that the current size was not supported in that mode.

I did manage to get almost 6 seconds of 720p though. That's a start.

yeah I figured the ability to make more corrections, but still, with most cameras capable of only a second or two of RAW video that really seems to limit the possibilities eh?

hopefully future bodies will have much faster card slots and allow much longer takes. if either of my cameras were even capable of 5 seconds of 1080p RAW video I would put it to work immediately on stock footage shoots.

I generally shoot stock photos in RAW.

I get how awesome RAW is, I'm just saying that with the current limitations what is anyone actually using it (video) for? I'm not trying to be condescending, I'm genuinely curious.

I primarily shoot wedding videos and stock footage. Running a 60D and a 600D I cannot see any real world practical use of RAW video.

Is it just that you get 14bit vs 8bit and no compression artifacting?

With either of my cameras I can't even shoot (with a fast card) 4 seconds of 1080p video (minimum for stock footage clips most places), so what use is it really?

Don't get me wrong, I am not knocking the incredible achievement of even getting this to work AT ALL. Just wondering what the actual practical use of it is at this point and what most folks dabbling with it are actually using it for.

Hmm, just tried settings fps to 30 while in 720p mode and all it seemed to do was make my video play back at 2x speed. Not sure what I did wrong there.

Yes, I love 1080p when it's called for, but smaller file sizes and longer record times as well as footage that is easier to work with in post would be nice.

I hadn't thought about 720p with a forced 30fps, that will probably work. I liked using 720p but the 60fps meant sacrificing low-light which in the wedding business is a no no.

Being a wedding videographer I still deliver 95% of my weddings in SD (DVD) and it's a pain to work with larger HD files that take up more space and make render times longer. It would be incredibly helpful if I could shoot at 16:9 SD 30fps.
