I'm 99% sure it's just a reflection.

It was probably a bad idea - but I added the dual-iso.mo with the recent 12/10 bit x02 (sp?) Build and did some tests.  MLV lite worked with 10 and 12 bit Dual, processed easily by MLVFS.

There were some early tweaks in cr2hdr by a1ex for 5D mark II and here I put that cr2hdr binary inside a version of cr2hdr.app here for you to try.
Upload a sample mlv file as well if you can.
cr2hdr app for dualiso with 5d mark II

This link is down - any chance you'd reupload it?

Cheers.

I just had some success with 12/10bit on 5d2, so I thought I push things too far and try Dual-Iso 12 bit.

Here's the thing - I've also never been able to get dual-iso working in post.  The black level is always way off.  I had a hell of a time with MLP in the past, so I just tried the latest version of Fuse and I'm still getting a mostly green image with messed up blacks.

General Chat / Re: First paid shoot, HELP!

Hard to give advice without knowing much about your setup.  Do you have faster lenses?  My guess is that video was shot on something like a 35mm.

If you're set on slow motion I wouldn't use a canon camera.  I would rent a Sony A6300/A7 series which can shoot at 120fps.

If you do have a 5d3 and want to mess with 48fps, make sure you give yourself plenty of time to troubleshoot this.

But most importantly, your style will be your own.  If you spend your entire career attempting to emulate other looks you won't be able to generate your own look.  Think about light, and maintain high standards when it comes to the rudiments.  Don't jack your ISO too high.

If RAW is too problematic just skip it.  The creative heart and your communication with the client matters much more than bit rate.

Looks interesting - but when I open an MLV file the GUI closes and I get something like this in Terminal:

And you want to consider how aggressive your ISO range is.  One fantastic tool is the Expose to the Right module (Ettr).  When I enter a new setting I try that to see if my guess about how dynamic the scene is is correct.  Often ISO 100 will satisfactorily cover it!  In scenes where it can't - Dual ISO is a lifesaver.

One of my go-to settings is -1 EV on Av with the recovery ISO set to +2.  In most situations this produces perfect highlights and great midtones.

General Help Q&A / Bright Frames on 5dmark II
April 07, 2017, 09:56:28 PM
Hi everyone, happy Friday.

I have a recurring issue with my 5D2 - it's happened periodically for the past year or so - updating ML doesn't seem to have an effect on its frequency.

Basically, with no seeming pattern I'm getting a brief flash of a mostly-white bright frame while I take 8bit video.  Sometimes it happens frequently in the same video, sometimes it doesn't happen at all.

My gut says it's something weird with my sensor, anyone have a clue?  I have a big shoot tomorrow and I'd love to not have to deal with it.

Thanks,
Jesse.

I'm having some success with my 5d2 and the December 19th builds.

MLV 10 BIT in Crop Mode is working perfectly minus frozen preview.

However standard recording (not in crop mode) every other frame contains part of the 1st frame.

General Chat / Running CR2HDR on Android?
December 24, 2016, 05:12:17 PM
Hi everyone!

Is it possible to run something like CR2HDR on Android to convert a single Dual-ISO CR2 to DNG?

I'm going on a long tour and trying to use only my Phone to manage my data. Anyone have any insight on the viability/difficulty of executing this idea?
#87
Appreciate you posting that, dfort, I've been following along excitedly but not really knowing where to try the more stable builds for 5d2.

In theory, is 10/12 bit Dual-ISO possible on any camera?  As far as I remember Dual-ISO video on 5d2 never made it beyond pretty glitchy.

I had some mixed-luck with MLP!  I haven't tried it for a few months, but I think MLP was the only one that produced a non-interlaced HDR image.

I think it's a great idea - the Magic Lantern community is so diverse, and to really take advantage of that diversity we should tackle creative projects!  The real answer to your question about seeing finished entertainment is: It's hard.  You need GREAT writers in addition to great engineers, DP's, Directors, Grips, Actors.  It isn't easy.

That said, the first step is TRYING.  We have to TRY!  Try new things!  I think a new subforum for creative projects would be an excellent start.

Hi guys, what's the latest with the 5d Mark II Dual-Iso stuff?

Is there a newer version of the dual-iso.mo?

Is there a better workflow than MLP?  I wasn't able to find the hacked CR2HDR.

Thanks! I never would have thought of that.  I'll report back when I have the chance to.  Hopefully not next year...

Hello, lovely people.

I recently acquired a BG-E6 battery grip for my 5d Mark II, which happened to have the experimental DUAL-ISO video module people have been working on lately installed.

The battery grip, though new and unused, has not been working perfectly.  I find that it's frequently cutting power to my camera, and also disabling the function of my primary shutter.  This may be completely unrelated, or it may be the cause of my first "Bricking" experience.

To get to the point, I received the Blue Bricking screen.  It said that it successfully dumped the ROM and that my camera was bricked.  Taking the battery grip off, and re-installing my battery fixed the issue.  Temporarily.  The camera gave me the blue screen a few hours later.

Perhaps my case is not bad, or perhaps I don't quite understand bricking.  My understanding was that Bricking rendered the camera unusable, but in my case it seems to function fine after reinstalling the battery.  Did I just have a "near-brick" experience, or is bricking a periodic issue like I'm experiencing?

I'm at work at can't try it now, but should my first step to be to remove the experimental DUAL-ISO module and try a more stable version of ML?  Thanks for any help you can offer.

I've had lots of success with MLP.  It works and swiftly for dual-iso on the 5d2.  I have also had some issues.  On a few sequences - even though the still-interlaced preview indicates a healthy image - conversion through MLP renders totally blank, empty black frames.

I wasn't able to successfully export converted Dual-Iso DNGS with MLVFS.  This may have just been me not being sure how. (Not sure when/where output is modified due to in-browser toggles.)

Is there a GUI version of the experimental CR2HDR for Mac floating around anywhere?

Here is a file - Converted with MLP on Mac - to test for anyone curious what the finished output looks like.

(To save space I only included some of the frames in the sequence. Hopefully this doesn't contribute to another issue like the one @Danne pointed out.

Reverse Engineering / Re: Video - dual iso for 5D2
March 17, 2016, 06:29:25 AM
I went looking for proof that this gets us the kind of dynamic range we're looking for. With MlRawViewer the MLV file looks like what you'd expect - interlaced, but data-rich.  I exported as DNG's from MlRawViewer from there and used Cr2HDR to convert.  Perhaps that's a bad workflow, because the resulting dngs were missing any information about shadows or blacks.

I imported the original, interlaced DNG's into lightroom. Added some grain and noise reduction.  The interlacing isn't so noticeable.

The point of that being that YES, this is a step in the right direction.  Even before the conversion, I definitely felt as if I was working with the ISO's I specified in Dual-ISO.

THANKS!  If I can provide some more objective information for anyone, please let me know.

I would love to help test this - but I'm afraid I don't know how to start.  Where can I download the module?

I'm also interested in preserving original metadata,  I would like to be able to use bridge to rename my compressed files with their original date and time.

5D2 is not supported with dual iso raw!

I suppose you use M mode. Do you have this problem in non-crop and crop mode both?

Yeah, I am in Manual. And yeah, I can see why crop mode would complicate things but I haven't been able to get anything interlaced in any setting - except occasionally on accident when I was first shooting raw.

Should I be locking FPS with FPS override or something? Is there a step in shooting raw dualiso that can kill it? Expo-override or something?
#99
Yup. I've been using Dual-Iso for photos for over a year now and I love it. However I'll be damned if I can get an set of dual-iso interlaced DNG's from MLV or RAW modules.

I seem to remember a module for Dual Iso Raw Rec. Was it MLV or the original RAW? Am I just doing something wrong? I have the January 24th nightly build for my 5dii and I haven't been able to figure out raw dualiso video.
