I am having a problem with SanDisk Extreme Pro SDXC card. I followed the instructions, but the camera (60D) still does not see ML. Runs perfectly from a 32GB SDHC card, but no luck with 64GB...I low-formatted the card in camera, made it bootable with macboot utility and copied all ML files to the root of the card. However ML still isn't loaded. What am I doing wrong?

UPDATE: I forgot, that on Mavericks I need to download a macboot.command file and run in first. Now everything is working!

Crashes on OSX 10.7.5 . Will wait for a stable version, but I like the idea ))

I keep getting a segmentation fault, when trying to convert a raw video with raw2dng executable on OS X 10.7.5.

Resolution  : 1728 x 736
Frames      : 54
Frame size  : 2228224 bytes
Frame skip  : 1
FPS         : 19.998
Processing frame 1 of 54...Segmentation fault: 11

Is dual ISO already supported in raw2dng GUI app for Mac?
#5
Any idea when Dual ISO will make it into nightly ?

Canon already did. It is on 550D and the 500D. In ML it is called the LCD sensor. It can be used to trigger the shutter, amongst other things including follow focus as you are requesting.

I guess I used the wrong terminology. It's probably called LCD sensor. How can I use it to control follow focus?

Guys, I can't find where to download the cr2hdr.exe from
#8
dcraw -4 -T options should export 16 bit TIF
#9
outputs 8 bit TIF instead of 16

not raw

The nightly builds are only for the unified (no raw video module). If you want the latest nightly build with raw video inside it, you must compile yourself and take the latest raw module to add.

I think you are wrong. I use nightly builds with 550d all the time and raw is enabled there. http://nanomad.magiclantern.fm/nightly/

Well, to my eye raw was "overgraded" and did not look natural. In fact in this case I would prefer the h.264 version

Share Your Videos / Canon 550d RAW 1728x736 @ 20fps

I am able to capture between 54-59 frames with these settings (almost 3 seconds). Actually for such static scenes I could use lower fps and just twixor later, but I thought I would try as is. I used mixed modes - 5x and without. Processed in Rawtherapee and encoded with ffmpeg/x264 (4:2:2). Lens - Canon pancake 40mm f 2.8

Enjoy!

I think it would be very nice to control follow focus not with arrow keys, but without even touching the camera - with an eye-sensor. One possible scenario is this:

1) Forward adjust focus on cover
2) Stop on open
3) Backward adjust on next cover

As an option - let the user configure the speed of focus adjustment. What do you think?

thanks! I read up on ETTR and indeed, it makes a huge difference

Here's my experiment with unscaled 1720x728 @ 20fps . I manage to capture around 54-59 frames per take. Looks very nice!

mm, I don't think so

here's a frame with ETTR. Does not look much better :(

Guys, can someone take a look at my raw clip from 550d and tell me why I have so much noise in the shadows? It's shot at ISO 100. .. shouldn't it be much cleaner?

And I also have another question: is it possible to enable black bars in the official build? Rewind's build is nice, but I want all the features of the official build as well...

Wow, impressed!

What's the benefit of using Resolve over Lightroom?
#21
I think he is referring to shooting in 720p canon mode. That sucks, you should not use it.

Anyone here tried fisheye or ultra wide angle lenses with RAW? What's the effect like in crop mode?

There. I corrected that for you.  :)

The Bayer color filter array will filter one color per photosite: either red, green or blue. As a result, for every 4 pixels there is 1 red, 2 green and 1 blue. There are more greens because humans are more sensitive to it. That's what makes bayer "compression". To get true rgb color you will need a debayering (demosaicing) algorithm. It will interpolate for every pixel the missing 2 colors from the neighboring pixels. Typically this is done by photo editing software. By the way: this is where moiré is generated.

The reason why cameras use either a bayer filter (or prism in 3CCD/3xCMOS) is simply because in the end all sensors are grayscale, so we need to filter each color and feed it separately to the sensor. Either on photosite level (bayer) or else on sensor level (3ccd).

About 5D3: I'm not sure ML devs know the exact technique it uses to downscale to Full HD.
Here is what I know:
- The output is 14bit bayer, same format as the sensor but 1/3th of the resolution in both dimensions, so exactly 1/9th the information
- 5D3 probably uses all pixel information in its downscaling (unlike line skipping which typically uses one pixel out of nine)
- Its downscaling is better than line skipping: less moiré and aliasing artifacts

Very good summary

Raw Video / ML RAW format spec?

Hi guys, where can I see the format specification or at least some kind of documentation?
