must enable raw or mlv *rec module in modules tab

On Windows is there any solution that currently syncs WAV and MLV->DNG Sequences in Davinci Resolve? I had been using RawMagic on OSX and it did this automatically and saved me a ton of time as I typically am shooting hundreds of files multiple days/week. Linking manually is a slow process, would be great if it was all automatic like with RawMagic.

Hello, I discovered that when I press garbage (delete) button during rec,
the borders top and above become transparent.
It should be really nice to have it always to prevent microphone or anything entering in the frame .. too late..
I would like to know if it could be possible to assign the magic zoom button during rec to à right button (af-on should be perfect) as we often focus with left hand.
I love ML and can't work without anymore.
Sincerely
Yvan

Go into Canon settings, Custom Controls, and set the SET button to the ZOOM function. For transparent borders, would using the cropmarks here work? (or make your own in Paint): http://www.sawomedia.de/magiclantern/cropmarks/ (CineSco3 and CineSco5)

^ If that doesn't fix it, I'd research setting the bootflag (with whichever firmware you're going with). It sounds like either you aren't setting the bootflag, or your card isn't enabled as bootable via macboot or eoscard.

Raw Video / Re: RAW Video Rec on Commercial Job

Hi everyone

I'm on a small commercial job tomorrow and I want to take the "risk" and shoot raw video with Magic Lantern. As I have enough time, I will also record every shot in normal video just in case anything goes wrong with ML raw video. I don't need to record sound.

I'm using a Canon 5D Mark III with firmware 1.2.3 and ML Nightly.2014Jul16.5D3123.

I read in the forum, that it is safer to use the old raw module raw_rec.mo (v1.0) instead of mlv_rec (v2.0). Is that still the case?

I get better performance from RAW. I only use MLV when I need to record sound as well.

If I use raw_rec.mo (v1.0), do I have to downgrade my Canon firmware to 1.1.3 or is it safe to use it with 1.2.3?

Safe with either in my experience.

My next question is about converting the MLV or RAW files into DNG on Mac OS.

Is there a difference in quality between using MLRawViewer (1.1.7) or RawMagic from Rarevision when converting the files into DNG?

Not sure. I use RawMagic and have used MLVMystic. Both worked well. Occasional lock-ups. MLVMystic can only process around 50 files at once.

Thank you for your help and support!

You cannot review your takes in RAW

Yes you can (minus audio). If you don't have this option, install a nightly and enable the MLVplay module (and optionally the fileman module as well to access files via the file manager)

yeah my grading is just curves, tints, tritone, etc in premiere

1. MLVMystic MLV/RAW to DNG
2. Davinci Resolve Lite. Open DNG Sequences, manually link audio in media bin using keyboard shortcut (cmd-optn-L or cmd-ctrl-L - forget), set clips to use BMDFilm, highlight recovery, sharpness of 25, create timeline, adjust white balance as needed, export individual clips as ProRes 4444
3. Edit in Premiere and send to client. Most of my work is quick turn-around and low budget so I don't export proxies in step 2 to colour in Resolve (as a step 4)

I have two 64 1000s and two 64 1050s from komputerbay. I haven't formally tested them but have found no difference in record time for 60p shots.

Did anyone have any success with this frame?

I am very afraid of the fact that these black frames can't be returned?

I had the exact same problem and following the posts in this thread fixed it for me. Look at my posts in this thread and the responses and it should work for you. Thanks @g3gg0 and everyone for the quick help

I doubt it's that. I think the problem is the program that you used to convert the raw to dngs the first time around.

Could also have been the version of ML you were using (as there was a problem with the default black level being off a week or two ago.)

Yes, I used this ML version (first time using it having previously used various nightlies without issue): magiclantern-Nightly.2014Apr09.5D3113.zip

Also, it wasn't the converting app. The video playback (in-camera while I was shooting the event) showed the incorrect black level, but this did not occur in all the clips I shot, only about 5-10% of clips it seems and I couldn't figure out why that was happening. I will update ML and if the issue persists on my next shoot I will reply to this thread.

Exiftool black level shows up as 4049. Running that command "exiftool -BlackLevel=2048 *.dng" fixes it and the image looks normal again. Awesome!

Now, any ideas as to why this has started happening? I noticed one thing I had different last night was an extra module enabled, pic_view

I just shot an event last night on my 5d3 and this same thing happened. I have been shooting raw for months now without this problem.. About every fourth or fifth take had the same issue. I'll upload a raw via raw2dng very shortly. No settings were changed last night. Was shooting on magiclantern-Nightly.2014Apr09.5D3113.zip

Lovvvvve the track you used man! The footage looked good, kinda soft, could be YouTube, could be the 50 at 1.8. I liked your edit though! The whole time I was begging to see a follow-behind glidecam shot of the models/dancers walking down the catwalk to the beat! Well done though

Thanks, and yes they can. It's happened to a couple of my colleagues. If the laser hits the sensor in just the right (or wrong!) way, the sensor can fry. I'm not sure of the details on what power of laser is needed though.

Raw Video / Re: Slow Motion on Canon Mark 3 Raw

I have a Canon 5DMk3 and shoot on two 64GB Komputerbay 1000x cards. I shoot everything so it stretches to 1920x804 in post. I usually get 10 seconds of record time shooting at 60p, sometimes it randomly stops at 8 seconds, sometimes it will go up to 12 seconds. I have global draw on while recording as well.
#44
Thanks but can you upload the 1080p video to vimeo and then go to video settings and convert it to the 1080p version? Currently only the 720p version that vimeo automatically makes is playing

Edit: nvm I thought this was a comparison of raw vs h264 footage at varying resolutions

I have a 6D and downloaded the nightly.  But, there's no .fir so I cannot set the bootflag.  Not surprisingly, the 6D will not update the firmware to install ML.  How can I get around this?  Can I use another .fir file (from another model) to use as a dummy to set the boot flag?

Thanks,
Carl...
I believe you need to download and install the alpha first... should be a thread about it or the dev kit on the forum

Interesting. What type of cards are you on?

Komputerbay 64GB 1000x.. Using two cards.. Haven't isolated the problem to either one yet

I've been using the latest nightly builds for the 5D3 and had this happen to me a couple times. Have not isolated why yet...

The part where this workflow is failing me is when I drop the cinema dng sequence on the composition in after effects above the proxy video layer. Since the original file is longer and I have cut it to my requirement in edit the DNG sequence fails to sync with it rendering my cut completely useless and forcing me to match the start manually. I like this workflow and would like to really use it. Please help. What am I doing wrong?

Also having this issue---any way to automate the start of the DNG sequence so it uses the same start time as the proxy clip edit?
