Camera Emergency Department / Re: 5D mark II won't boot with CF card
« on: January 15, 2017, 01:37:54 AM »
Did you try to format your cards in FAT32 on your computer ? And what is the brandname of your cards ? Some Komputerbay CF cards get corrupted if you don't use UDMA7 reader.

I wonder if one day we will be able to use the crop mod with a preview like the 3x crop mod but with a resolution that we can choose, higher than 1080, like the 5x centered crop. With the new 10/12 bit functionality, it will be wonderful.

If A1ex or others devs can point the finger at this possibility, Magic Lantern will reach its peak, If this is not already the case.

I know it sounds insolent, knowing the enormous work and discovery that the developers are doing now. But when I see the evolutions that are getting faster and faster, I'm hoping.

53
For those who use mlv_dump and who like to do things simply, I recommend this tutorial

It is easy also to make different styles of dng extraction commands in the folder "send to" by duplicating .cmd files.
It's interesting when we need to do some tests with news features.

54
Even with YT compression, the footage is very clean ! Well done !

Raw Video Postprocessing / Re: ML Samplefiles

56
Thanks Danne, i'm feel less alone hehe.

On my exemple, i did the test with MLV_DUMP from 05 septembre 2016.

57
Here an exemple with the ETTR_stripesfixwork.MLV :

Another with overexposed_stripesfixdontwork.MLV

Do you understand what i mean about this issue ?

During the process for extract DNG from the  overexposed_stripesfixdontwork.MLV with MLV_DUMP , the stripes fix don't work.

58
@A1ex

Did you saw my post about this issue in blown highlight when using mlv_dump for fix verticals stripes ?

It is a known issue ? Or maybe it is me who has not understood something.

When using MLVFS all is ok about stripes fix, even for blown highlight.

Hardware and Accessories / Re: What lenses should a videomaker use?
« on: January 11, 2017, 12:27:54 PM »
I use :

Tokina 11 - 16mm F/2.8
Canon 24 - 70mm  F/2.8 V.1
Canon 70 - 200mm F/4
Canon 135mm F/2
Canon 50mm F/1.8 (wish the 1.4)

My big wish is to use anamorphics lenses, like Dog Schidt's or SLR Magic.

Nice shots, nice grading (Even i guess you used once again the famous and boring Osiris M31 LUT)

Model is also pretty :) but everytime touching her hairs ! I want to tie her hairs so she stops !

62
Very nice work and big thanks for sharing your workflow.

It's clear and very usefull.

I back on this topic after did lot of tests and shot, i noticed something strange.

The automatic stripes correction does not always work to some MLV footage that have highlight.
Sometime yes sometime no, depend the footage and maybe the exposition.

I do not know if it's related but i use the MLV_DUMP version from this link :

http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=5601.msg177064#msg177064

MLV footage was at 12bits, standard mode (no crop), on 5D mark III 113.

command line was just
Code: [Select]
--dng

I have to try with standard 14bits MLV and MLV_DUMP from last september for check if i get the same issue than 12bits.

Here two exemple of short .MLV, one with the issue, one without.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/41axdf047m16eg9/12bits-stripecorrectionwork.MLV?dl=0
https://www.dropbox.com/s/09z50zr9r9h2ety/12bits-stripescorrectiondontwork.MLV?dl=0

EDIT :

I did some tests with 14bits MLV files and older MLV_DUMP from 05SEPT.

I get the same issue. Look like the stripes fix dont work when the footage is overexposed, but sometime i need to overexpose when i do "Zone system".
Is there a solution for apply this fix even if the footage is overexposed and not just ETTR ?

Here some exemples with others shorts MLV :

Ok--here you go:

https://bitbucket.org/daniel_fort/magic-lantern/downloads/magiclantern-raw_video_10bit_12bit_crop_rec.2016Dec24.5D3113.zip

Please report your findings.

Thanks a lot, i will make some tests tommorow. Even if it's Christmas i don't care, ML is the priority  8)

65
Yes of course.

Code: [Select]
--dng --no-fixcp --no-stripes

66
Just tried now and yes it work on Premiere CC 2015 !

But unfortunately does not work for the extraction of MLV 12 and 10bits

67
Very interesting and thanks for reply !

I will wait a Windows build if someone could take the time to compile this.

68
Is it possible to add crop_rec module to 1.1.3 also? I find it only for 1.2.3 inside.

Very interested in this possibility also.

crop_rec + 10 - 12bits RAW will be a great combo.

69
I have a small question related to MLV_DUMP, when i extract DNG from mlv_dump i can't import DNG into Premiere Pro CC 2015, but if i use the soft raw2cdng 1.7.9 it is possible.
Is this a known problem?

I use the last mlv_dump  (09 dec) made for extract 10 and 12bits MLV/RAW, but i tried with standard 14bits MLV.

I don't especially use Premiere Pro for color grading with DNG, with davinci resolve i don't get any problem, i was just curious about this issue.

70
ok, put 10 and 12bit into raw2cdng. if someone s still using this tool :)

Of course, im still using your soft as mlv viewer and extractor. Thanks for your update.

71
Some initial testing around the blazing fast raw_twk module. I also tested it with the magnificent crop_rec module on a 5D mark III.

Pros
5D mark III mlv_lite
1 - The 3xzoom mode grayscale preview crash bug is gone!
2 - Playback works great also with the magnificent crop_rec module(tested centred 5xzoom)
3 - 10bit, 12bit, 14bit works

Amazing new ! Can't wait to test the new 10/12bits build coupled with the super crop_rec module version :)

72
@DeafEyeJedi -- in 48/50p the vertical resolution is 1.67x smaller, which kills details and causes aliasing and moire. Most of wide angle shots are quite bad.

Switching to canon 25/24p mode and then overriding to 37fps means much more detail for me. BIG chance for me, crippled resolution in 48p mode was a reason for me to start looking for a new camera.

look at the aliased edges:

Your work is just amazing ! Never saw your stuff before.
How did you grade it ? Which softs ? which luts (if used) ?
I dont saw informations.

For answer you about aliasing and moire on 50 and 60fps footage due to stretching, yes it's a small issue, but believe me, most of 95% people don't will see anything.
And for be honest, on your footage i'm not focused on it.

73
I cannot find module for 5D Mark 2. That means there is not a proper settings available for 5D2 yet where every 2nd frame is not pink?

Check this post : http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=5601.msg174302#msg174302

Just replaces the module in your ML installation : ML / modules / raw_rec.mo

But yes, with the 5DII version there are pink frames issues. 10 and 12bits

74
Tried the 5D mark II with 12bits
Extract MLV with the new mlv_dump version and the line
Code: [Select]
--dng --no-fixcp --no-stripes
I got pink frame issue too

Now i will test the 5DIII :)

Even if we got issues, i'm sure it will fixe of everyone do tests.

Thanks @dfort for all these news builds !

EDIT:

Ttried with the 5DIII :

10 bits = Stable  | FPS override enabled
12bits = Got pink frame only on the first frame | FPS override enabled

Just did some tests with dual iso on the 5D mk III.

I did not find any bigs problems, it work well.

Just saw some strange colored artifacts in the top border of image.
Not a real problem, i can resize (arround 10 pixels) a bit my footage and it's gone.

Thanks you for these news upgrades @AWPStar !

Work with dual iso footage is become more easy now.
