Any chance of adding any type of metadata, ala tapename from the filename to assist with proxie workflow in resolve, etc?

thanks! Ive been trying to shoot full cards, so I 59GBs of MLVs + M001, M002, etcs. Seems be errors on various clips tho, not just REALLY long ones. my specific tests for you were all below 20 seconds tho

EDIT: Posted another log to bitbucket
#53
Tried with 10 separate clips and couldn't get them to crash, OF COURSE....dont want to upload 4GB MLVs, so will try again in or day or so

@jbowdach you as well, send me a short ( short! :) ) not functional mlv from your 7d to analyze it on my pc.

--> [email protected]

regards chmee

hmmm....short..let me see what i can find that errors out thats not huge.

EDIT: Okay, I have NOTHING thats not massive. GOnna shoot a test tonight thats not too big for you to analyze . Many thanks :)

EDIT 2: Now of course, all my very short clips are working. 5-13 seconds. Possibly something with large files and split M01s, etc?

Thank chmee, Just downloaded the new version (1.5.0 beta 4) and with give it a work out  :)
One question thou, Is there a way of getting the normal 16bit Cdng as in Version 1.4.9 ?
I can't edit the Cdngs or use them in any Apple produces, as there are all pink cast (for Adobe)
but I like the new version with the file name generator etc.. . I can use the older version it fine but just wondering .  :D

off topic real quick:  thanks for your videos online. Helped me get started w the workflow when VERY few mlv videos working w sync sound seem to be online

first: @a1ex it was not my intention to leave bad words on testing and generally on your work - understanding bugs in my code with a glitch on ml-side makes it very difficult to find the problem. so please @all it was no call-up to not test new builds.. your tests are of course necessary.

beta4 is online
* raw-bug (i hope) fixed
* more templates for filename generating
* proxy jpegs
* more debug infos in log (debug-button on top)

Thank very much, good sir! I am already testing it now to see if it fixes any of the crashing issues I had w beta3 and I have debug enabled so I can provide you debug info. Your work is VERY much appreciated as it's easily the best method for MLV -> DNG + WAV at the moment.

EDIT: Please find my debug log on pastebin below and issue files on bitbucket. It crashed as I was converted MLV files to 16bit CNDNGs (trying to avoid extra options so not using 12bit downconversion or any other options yet) -

@chmee many thanks, you are awesome! Please let me know how I can help provide any debug info

Aside from the black level issue, I cant get the application to process MLVs from my 7D without it crashing. I've tried several sets of MLV files recorded at different times, on different cards, with different version of ML\TL. Is there anyway I can provide a log of source of diagnostic info for this? I have no other alternative mlv2cdng workflow, as this has worked so well

Many thanks!

Reporting a bug with the latest nightly version of ML (and TL, but that makes no difference...just noticed it was in both).

WHen recording (I happen to be using raw, but seems to be universal issue), with expo override enabled, I begin with the ability to use my wheel to adjust my aperture  but sometime throughout the recording, the wheel loses the ability to control the aperture. The GUI displays a change in f-stop but there is no physical change in the aperture until I stop recording, cycle the camera, or cycle expo override on\off .  ANyone else? If so, what should I report officially so its useful info to debug?

anyone else getting random stops in recording RAW w/o a warning as to why? Ive had that and a few w a dropped frame warning at the size 1728x size with a lexar 1000x.

Can anyone recommend a generally semi stable build with RAW? Recent tests of all the nightlies are showing either tearing, which Ive reported and the above. Many thanks!

My favorite ML Raw & Visionlog video example yet!

does anyone else have issues when trying to convert mlv files with numerous .001, etc (split at 4GBs due to using FAT32). I found beta3 isn't recognizing my media past around 3 files , any larger and the program doesnt see the clip at all ?? The application essentially did not recognize when I dropped the first MLV of the sequence of 8 files. However, If i drop a single MLV file or and MLV file with a single .001 file, it reads and converts no problem. Otherwise, it essentially does not see when I drop files with more "splits"? Any suggestions? Tried beta 2 and beta3.

Also, very excited for the new mlvtocdng :)

so Ive spent some time grading some regular MLV, some cinelog and some visionlog. Something unique I noticed with Cinelog is that it compressed the curve significantly more than visionlog, but seem to "stretch" out without any depredation at all (hopefully that would replicate if rendered to out a ProRes 444 or 422HQ). Does the more highly compressed curve more realistically mimic log?

Im also little confused how we can do a LogC conversion besides applying the Luts directly via a separate node (which seems to work w/o issue) as applying via a monitor put seems to only apply as a viewing Lut, no applying it to out footage.

Lastly, i was curious what Cinelog color and how it compares to stock MLV, Visionlog converted,  cinelog, and Cinelog converted to LogC. This is all within Resolve 10 and not ACR, if that wasn't already made clear.

Many thanks for your help!

I'm not sure I understand the differences in going thru ACR versus Resolve or even RawTherapee to debayer.  Which will yield the best results regardless of time and what is the actual visual difference?

ACR and Resolve are two different ponys rides that end at the same camp. They use very different methods of "debayering" the raw data, and both have the positives and negatives (which can be found on this forum), but both are valid methods of working. It's truly whichever YOU prefer and which you are most comfortable with. If they all seem "challenging", try learning one, see the results, try the other and compare which you like.

Personally, I'm a colorist who works in Resolve for the past year or so (long before I started w ML Raw). With that being said, It's a software package I'm already very familiar so its my clear choice for processing. I'm sure if I tried ACR, i would find slightly different results but still be pleasant but, because post is already a lot of work, do what works best for you. Read the comparisons, try some testing yourself if you are curious, but they both work very well.

Many thanks. Looking forward to the Logc updates luts!

Id love to be involved in the beta

Hi All, slightly new to ML Raw but not new to log grading, but I had a few questions about ML specifics.  From what Im reading, it appears the ACR route is still better than Resolve but WAY slower? I ask because I just bought the Resolve version and I was wondering if it was too late to be included in the group that received the ACFR version as well? Many thanks!

Im shooting on a 7d raw. Thanks for your help!

DSLR Controller not working while raw video is on

Aw man, thats a huge disappointment. Makes focusing quite difficult w/o 100% reliable HDMI or DSLR controller. Guess ill need to test and experiment,

Thank you for chiming in about the possible HDMI issues. Im currently using a display on my Nexus 7 tablet using USB out and DSLR controller, so this may be okay, but I greatly appreciate the info  :)

HDMI Out works. I use it with my Lillieput.

Thank you for the confirmation. 50d seems like the ideal "affordable" RAW camera to those who can handle beta testing. Also seems like the perfect upgrade from my t2i\t3i :) thanks!!

Thank you very much for the answers! Seems like a very usable camera for RAW atm, minus the focus peaking. DOes HDMI out work, so if I can an external display for focus peaking (or the USB and my tablet via DSLR controller) :)

Hi guys. Could someone please list all the major bugs and limitations that remain to date with RAW recording on 50D? I haven't had the time to read through all the topic yet and I'm sure some things have been resolved. So what should one be aware of when considering buying the cam at this point? Coming from 600D by the way...

...And thanks for your work and effort, much appreciated!

I would REALLY appreciate this as well, as Im considering upgrading from 550d\600d and would like to know the hiccups to expect. Does USB output work (for DSLR controller)? DOes audio work with MLV? Do we have on-screen audio levels while recording? Does peaking work while recording? JUst want to know what we are getting into before we jump onboard :)

Many thanks to all
