What are the chances of getting global draw working over HDMI in 50/60p raw? This would be a killer upgrade and #1 on my request list.

the headphone to atomos will work, just test how many frames offset you need to add in the atomos. when you have the correct value for the offset the sound will be sync.

I use 5 frames on mine.

Raw Video / Re: Setup for 5D MKIII RAW recording
December 16, 2016, 09:38:12 AM
Activate MLV_REC and MLV_SND
This will get you MLV ("Raw 2.0") recording and .WAV sound recording.
Yep, use a fast CF card - 1066x
Shoot at 23.976 to avoid automatic stops (when 5d cant keep up with the write rate).

My advice to you is shoot like that for a few days, get used to ML, get used to Resolve and the workflow. Have a search on the forum if you run into problems, but feel free to ask if you get stuck.

Sorry for my newbie question but this my problem:
I have installed ML on my 5D Mark III 1.2.3 (magiclantern-Nightly) to solve my hissing audio problem with an external mike (RODE)
Specifically I was looking for a way to disactivate the AGC filter... (Auto Gain Filter)
Couldn't find an option on the menu and I tried to activate the MLV_SND.MO  module, but this is the answer I get in the console

tic: error: undefined Symbol 'mlv_record_get_free_slot'
plus more lines like this one

Any help highly appreciated!!
thanks

You deactivate the auto gain in the canon menu, not the ML menu.

Raw Video / 5dm3 RAW Sensor differences
December 07, 2016, 04:16:35 PM
Has anyone else noticed a slight shift on different 5dm3 sensors?

I recently shot a project with 3 different 5d3's. One is noticeably more magenta than the others.

WB and tints were all identical.

I have purchased my 5D Mark iii couple of days back.
I'm trying to downgrade to Firmware 1.23 and I'm using Mac osX 10.11
I'm not able to find Firmware 1.23 version for Mac osX 10.11
Could anyone please help me?
Please sent a link for osX 10.11, really appreciate the help.

I have also noticed a change in canon Utility Software...
Now the firmware update is under
Camera Settings > Firmware update

Please confirm if it is the correct way to update than going into remote shooting
in fact, I don't see firmware in that section

Thanks,
Jowish Simon

Just FYI it's the same as the Windows version. They both come with 5D300123.FIR and you just need to use EOS Utility to downgrade.

Well, nothing is really in shadow so exposure is quite easy. They're all front lit by the sun 90% of the time.
Looks like a a Sony (A7s probably), probably on a glidecam.
It's overlay grain for sure. Unless it was a fs700 through an odyssey at 3200 ISO, in which case I've seen that type of grain created in camera.

Hey,

I spent ages researching this. Bought parts, returned them.. etc etc.

I've ended up with a Zacuto VCT (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1093249-REG/zacuto_z_vct_vct_universal_baseplate.html) and a set of Half Inch Rails handle bars (http://halfinchrails.com/rigs-and-kits/hir-handlebar).

The HIR handlebars have plenty of mounting points to attach a magic arm and an EVF / monitor. Currently, I'm using an Atomos but want to upgrade to a Gratical.

The whole setup is extremely compact and the centre of gravity sits right on your shoulder. I can literally let go of the handlebars and keep it balanced.

The VCT is expensive (I picked mine up used on ebay for about £370), but it's a very neat solution to quite a undersupported problem.

General Help Q&A / Re: Exposure NIGHTMARE
October 07, 2016, 06:01:45 PM
I've spent  a long time experimenting with different exposure techniques.

My go-to technique right now is to use RAW zebras. I will overexpose until the brightest thing that I want to keep detail in starts to zebra, then I will dial it back 1/2 a stop.

Usually this results in a slightly overexposed image, but one that looks beautiful when brought back down in Resolve.

BIG thanks to a1ex and everyone else who made this new 123 build happen  :)
Clean HDMI is really important to some of us, so this is gratefully received!

@beauchampy please advise how I use this new module - I'm using 1.2.3 Nightly Build 7 Aug 14 -
- Do I just put this new module file over the old one on my ML card in the camera and restart?
- Or is it more involved than that?  e.g. do I replace the module file, then do a complete ML uninstall then reinstall?

Thanks

The first one.

A month ago I fixed and compiled the mlv_rec module for 1.2.3 fw. Here is the the fixed module that has been tested by me and other users from the Magic Lantern Italia facebook user group.
http://www.mediafire.com/download/6pn6ddj6s01b9wk/mlv_rec+5D3-123+pink+frames+fix+applied+by+Casanova.zip

It works like a charm.

The pull request I opened on bitbucket is still there and needs approval by main devs.

I've been using this for a couple weeks (me and anDyIII know each other outside this forum) and can also confirm it works 100% on the latest 123 with no pink frames.  8)

If you look at your media in premiere - do your clips have anything under the 'tape name' field?
In resolve they're called 'reel names' and they're essential for relinking media properly.

You should enable the 'assist using reel names' check box before you create your proxy files, so your files are given reel names:

Raw Video / Re: RAW Remote Start / Stop

Just incase anyone was wondering, there are no electronics inside these shutter switches. Therefore, very easy to make your own should you fancy. I'm going to try and find a PTM switch that will fit inside the holes in my handlebars.

Great! Shame on myself for missing your OP. Thanks for your clarifications @beauchampy -- would you mind sharing a screenshot of your set-up with the gimbal?

Curious which part of the cage that's attached to the Ronin that you used to connect the cable to the 5D3 meanwhile using the 2nd wireless button next to your handle.

I'm making a shoulder mount documentary rig, not a gimbal rig.. I will just keep using the on camera record button for my gimbal.

Thanks for the inputs. Would the Rec/Stop only work for H.264 recording and not MLV RAW within ML?

I guess you have a 5D3, if so it's in the Canon menu SHOOT5:Movie the red tab and there is Triggerbutton or something like that in the third row. You need to turn of autofocus on the lens for it to work proparly.

Following the above instructions works for me Rec/Stop for MLV Raw video.

I use 4 Yongnuo transmitters that works really well, they are cheap aswell. THe name of them is RF-603CII

Looks like this on my zacuto marauder, that I hopefully will trade in for a zacuto recoil docu.

How have you configured your shutter button to start / stop video? Just had a look in the Canon / ML menus and can't find anything obvious. At the moment my release just wants to start autofocus / take a picture..

I'm not a day-to-day Lightroom user but I just bashed out a LR preset to roughly emulate the graded look I posted previously - just apply it to the Cinelog-C TIFF

Andy, these results look amazing - what an exciting development!

Can we talk a bit about workflow?

I tend to shoot short form documentary style films, usually huge amounts of footage with interviews and all sorts (even on 5d3 raw).

I've been using a Resolve since the round trip workflow (creating roughly graded proxies, usually just with a LUT thrown on, editing in Premiere, XML back to Resolve for the grade) is quite efficient.

Would it be possible to maintain a similar workflow, but the grading process done inside AE utilising ACR and OCIO? Is there a round trip style workflow?

If you're on 1.2.3 on any build post August 2014, you will get glitching like this due to frame debug logging. You need to either use the August 2014 build or switch to the latest 1.1.3 nightly.

Can we sticky this somewhere!?

Raw Video / RAW Remote Start / Stop
August 08, 2016, 01:50:06 PM
Is there a device out there which will remotely start / stop RAW recording? Like a cabled remote shutter?

Just putting together my doc-style rig and would love to mount a start / stop button on a handle.

I use my mk3 to record raw for 45mins at a time (two 128gb cards @ 24p), never a problem.

you could use the mlv module from August 7th 2014 for 1.2.3 in the December build.

but yea a new build based on more recent branch would be welcome

the issue with that module is i think it doesn't allow for a single raw clip longer than 40gb / ~8.5 mins
#99
Use August 7th 2014 for 1.2.3
Use anything post 11th April 2016 for 1.1.3

Debug logging causes the pink corrupt frames (it's turned off in those builds).

STUNNING!!!

Can you please please tell me your settings for 48fps? What frame rate in the Canon menu and FPS override did you use?
