So I ate up 5 32gb Lexar 1000x cards on this particular shoot.

I only had two cards, so when one was full I simply copied the RAW files to a HDD while I kept shooting on the other card.

All of the files from one of the dumps seem to report as 0 Size, 0 Frames in RAWMagic. However the RAW files are a healthy size and there's a full 31.96gb of data there.

raw2dng just spits out empty dng folders.

Any tips from you ML gurus?

Low Light test:

Another test: (more trying to figure out my Kamerar slider!)

I can see the limits of the 5D II now. The aliasing is a bit too much in some of these shots. Will have to save to get a 5D III!

Not bad. I've just started testing my 5D II today!

I've noticed you've got some nasty aliasing on your power lines too.. I noticed the same on my footage today.

Nice being able to pull the sky back in like you have on your second shot. You may have gone a bit heavy on the processing though...!

Raw Video / The best way to benchmark a card?
October 09, 2013, 03:09:30 PM
I've been benchmarking quite a lot to compare cards / settings etc.

At the moment my Lexar 32gb 1000x can quite happily record at 74mb/s in my 5D II, however the benchmarks are only hitting around 62-64mb/s

I usually put the camera into video liveview (1920x1080 24fps), don't hit record or anything and then run the benchmark.

I don't think my results are accurate - what settings / how are you guys benchmarking?
#280
Ignore that... Fiddled with my liveview settings and it works!
#281
This may seem stupid, but I was hoping someone could help.

So I've done a lot of reading, BUT, I'm not entirely sure how to start the recording process!

I turn on my camera, hit the liveview button, then hit the center wheel button (the camera then seems to start recording h.264), I then hit the centre button again to start the raw recording.

I think I'm doing something wrong, because it seems to keep recording h264 at the same time?!

i have a Sandisk 60MB/s 32GB , it my last resort card if all
fails, and it records @ 1732x768 23.976p i think 50MB/s
I know its not the same as you card but just letting you know what a Sandisk 60MB/s can do
and i also have a 32 GB Sandisk Extreme Pro 90MB/s - 1872x850 23.976p

Thanks, that's useful info!

Always been a big fan of sandisk. However the 32gb Lexar is only around £10 more than the Sandisk Extreme Pro, so I've just ordered myself one of the Lexar cards...

Will let you know how it goes!

I just did some testing...

Yes thats a  Sandisk Extreme IV 45mb/s

Recorded at 1152x384 (Data rate of about 25mbs - I wanted something that would be well within the Sandisks limits).

5D II 2.1.2
ML 2.3
RAW - 30/08/13 - af839274b1fa

Test 1
Sandisk - Continuous recording OK
Transcend - Recorded about 3 seconds then stopped.

Test 2
Sandisk - Continuous recording OK
Transcend - Recorded about 2 seconds then locked up the camera. Had to remove the battery.

So if it can't even handle 25mbps... Don't see any hope of it handling any higher resolutions. Not this particular one anyway.

Just ran a stability test, and in massive letters it says:

Err 02

There is a problem with external media. Replace external media.

I guess that means we're on to a lexar then....

I actually returned my Komputerbay card since I thought that might be the cause of the issue. I bought a Transcend 1000x instead.

At the moment I'm running
2013-08-30 af839274b1fa

I've also tried the latest
2013/09/26 ce9fb256205c

Tried running a benchmark (under liveview) and got the following results (I don't know why theres a big black square in the middle, it just appeared halfway through the test).

I actually formatted the card in camera after, ran the test again and saw I got slightly better results, however still the same problem and the camera completely locked up on me whilst trying to record raw.. *sigh*  :'(

Raw Video / 5D II Raw Video - Help needed!
October 03, 2013, 06:25:16 PM
So I've been having a few issues getting raw recording on my 5D II working.

I had a Komputerbay 1000x card, I'm now using a Transcend 1000x card.

Basic menu settings:
- Camera menus set to S JPEG
- Small hacks on
- Card warm up 64mb
- 960 x 436 (yep! even on these low resolutions, less than 20mbs, read on..)

Basically I can record for about three seconds before live view locks up. Sometimes the camera will stop recording, sometimes it will literally freeze up completely until I pull the battery (camera flashes 'busy' when I hold down the shutter button).

Sometimes I get this white bar on the right of the screen (I'm guessing that indicates the buffer usage?) which starts on one block and immediately fills up (which in turn stops the recording).

At the moment I'm on the latest *stable* build with the latest 14bit RAW module from this forum. Earlier I was on the latest nightly build, same problem.

If anyone can point me in the right direction or help me trouble shoot this, I'd be really grateful. I'm starting to fear my 5D MII which I bought second hand recently is a lemon..

Thanks in advance.

Hey, let us know how the Transcend 1000x performs... please :)

MUCH better! Definitely far superior!

Write speeds dramatically improved from being in the low 60's to now the high 70's, even 80's.

I need to do further testing but I was getting continuous 1880x720, I'll bump it up later tonight and see how high I can go.

This thing is actually working now and just did my first test through lightroom -> compressor -> prores 4444

So so sweet!! :)

Thank you ML!

I`just saw the beginning of the thread.
I`ve acctually been using a Komputerbay 32Gb X1000 CF for a couple months at least since (2013/08/16
31302bbc6461)
and have outstanding results: 1856x1004 Continuous OK exept I like using 2.0 Aspect ratio.
If anybody wants me to run any tests I`ll be glad to help.

Can you tell us more about which build of ML you're using and what your camera settings are?

Yes , do more reading on how to
Setup your camera  .
Search the form there a wealth of information
Here.
Then still have problems ask away  :)

Ok I did some more reading! Did some tweaking.. Even at 1880 x 440 the camera will record for a few seconds then lock up! The liveview freezes and the top of the camera just flashes 'busy'. This just goes on and on until I pull the battery.

I've given up on this komputerbay card. Filled out my RMA request and I've got a Transcend 1000x 64gb on order.

NOOB altert!

So I have the following:

5D II on 2.1.2
ML 2.3
4b3129d5a739 raw rec module.
Komputerbay 1000x 64gb

I am having problems!

Benchmark tests put the card anywhere between 51 and 64mbps (pretty low I think?)
I can't even record 1880 x 440 without some serious frame drops, even then it only records for maybe a max of 3 secs.

Have I got a lemon of a card? Or do I just need to educate myself a bit further? :)
