Happy to finally share this.

Shot just before the 4k updates came out. I used 50p 3x3 binning to produce a 1920x672 image that does not require stretching. I then scaled this up slightly to fit a 2.35:1 frame.

12-bit RAW. 1.1.3. Got around 21 seconds. Mostly Canon lenses. Graded in Resolve using FilmConvert.

Any questions drop a comment.

New version which supports compressed raw as well as regular 10/12/14bit raw files.
Download link

I "monkeywrenched" Bouncyball´s lj92 implemetation to work with It won´t get me any prices but it seems to fly.
Code here:

Andrew Baldwin(MlRawViewer) worked out lj92 code

Code has been around and worked upon and now Bouncyball reworked the code so that it works with MLVFS and mlv_dump for steroids. Major leap here. Big thanks to Bouncyball. I somehow managed to get the code working with 14bit ml-dng(dmilligan) branch in
The pros are obvious. Hopefully working with a1ex and g3gg0 stellar vertical stripes code and chroma smoothing, cold pixel fix etc. If testing please report your experience both good and bad on Bouncyball´s thread or here. Check if vertical stripes code is working and so on.
Bouncyball "updated MLVFS" thread

Do not miss out on downloading Bouncyball version of dmilligan´s state of the art MLVFS fully working with compressed raw.

Darkframe averaging seems not to be working with compressed raw yet.

Can someone put this in laymans terms? Do I just need to update cr2hdr and it's much faster? Or does this require MLVFS as well? I know how to use both converters, just never used them together. DeafEye, where are you? You're good at explaining this stuff  :D

I've tested 1920x960 50p 14 bits lossless, convert the .mlv file with mlv_dump, all .dng are black for the moment, don't know why. I had no error message during the recording and stopped it myself.
I've also tried 4K at 24p, but I haven't found the way to get the 4096 x 1440 ratio it is written everywhere?
In 4K, preview isn't working, right?

Thanks and many thanks to all the team which is doing so much work to fill the gap Canon has let behind.
I'm currently finishing my second short with the help of Magic Lantern and it is great to be able to get such video quality!

Are they black if you look at them in After Effects or Resolve?

Something I came across the other day (but probably nothing)..

The Red One CF module seems to be some kind of CF -> SSD converter?

Bless you hyalinejim, this is fantastic work. Can't wait to give it a try.

Sorry don't be pissed at me, but what is the best solution to convert 14 bits lossless .mlv files?
I've red we can use cr2hdr.app_4K, but i don't seem to find a link to it, only the version. Is this application compatible with all the .mlv flavours?
Is there better way to do so? I've always used MLVMystic which is simple and elegant to use…

cr2hdr has been updated, so no need for the '4k' version anymore. Just grab the latest from here -

Looks Clean & Sharp, what kind of Lens did you use?

Canon 100m macro (the cheap one - not the L)

Just did a quick test converting to C-log ProRes 422HQ and using the 'C100, C-log' profile in Film Convert - colour is bang on! This is a serious workflow!

Request: The ability to que up a conversion list and duplicate settings would be awesome.

Footage looks great, unfortunately it seems impossible to view full screen or link to the vimeo page.

Pretty straightforward setup here, just a 5D3 on 123 recording standard 1080p 14-bit (nonlossless) RAW at 25p. 100m macro (the cheap one - not the L), and a Rhino Slider. One light and some black material.

When you say "cinematographer", do you mean someone who works on feature films?

I think we're mostly in the "videographer / filmmaker" category here. It is a forum for a hacked DSLR after all!

I am not correcting white or black level so far. Just taking whatever the MLV file says.
Could you please send me two DNG files that show the effect you are talking about? One with the corrected white level and one without the correction? Thank you.

Could you add options to manually modify black / white levels? I find if I shoot with 12-bit and clip the exposure, the highlights go pink. The only fix is to set the white level to something like 12500 using MLV Dump (or cr2hdr).

Here's a sample clip - 12bit 50p 3x3 1920x672 to show you what I'm talking about.

Slight bit of pink @ 15000
Much less pink (but still a tiny tiny amount) @ 12500

Thanks both!

@a1ex - this didn't used to happen with 14-bit, I could usually blow the highlights and they would recover as grey, unless I'm mistaken. Is this something to watch for when exposing & 12-bit?

Having some issues with pink highlights in 50p 3x3 (old style - 1920x672).

Is this something to do with ML or the DNG processing?

Sample zip file:

This may seem like a dumb question, and apologies if it's already been answered.. But how do I playback the footage? All I am able to do is scrub?

The issue seems to be in 1920x1080 48p. Hopefully fixed, but I'm seriously thinking to reduce the default resolution to something like 1040 (thus breaking the promise of 1080p48). Any objections?

Ouch, so no more 16:9 slow motion? This is kinda a big deal for someone like me to *has* to deliver in 16:9 to some clients..

Love this app!  :D

@beauchampy: known bug, but right now, figuring out how prevent the recent soft-bricks has a higher priority.

Until then, my advice would be to try the Apr03 or older builds (which are double-buffered, which avoids tearing, but Frozen LV is not working well, so recording times may be shorter).

Do not use Apr04.

Can confirm Apr03 build is working correctly. Thanks a1ex!

No problem buddy, you take your time. Thanks for all your hard work, these updates are amazing.

Anyone able to get 50p 3x3 1920x960 working without the frame tearing issue I am experiencing?   :-\

Ok, just took a quick lookI took this as you were getting stretched footage? Anyway, the tearing issue is as you say something coming from the compress raw itself not from mlv_dump. About stretching issue it all looks ok to me.

That was only happening when my screen suddenly populated with errors and logs. I think crop_rec had crashed. When it was working properly (non stretched 3x3 50p @ 960px) I get the line tearing.

Thanks. I take a dive into this later tonight.

Thanks mate I really apprecite that. Just FYI I just tried 123 and the latest April 10th build and the issue persists.

Tag is added by mlv_dump(ml-dng version, dng.c code from dmilligan).
Could you upload the zip package? Much smaller in size. I have no good internet connection.

Here you go, thanks for your help!

Definately tag added not ML. Could you upload a short sample? In latest you can create a sample package in mlv_dump menu. Selection (12).
Latest version also combines both compressed and non compressed versions of mlv_dump so no need for any 4k version now.

Here's a problematic sample MLV (sorry, didn't have an option 12 in mlv dump settings on my cr2hdr?)

Is this where you upload the latest builds for mac?

EDIT: Tried looking at the same sample file in 'Footage' and the same tearing occurs.. Not sure it is cr2hdr? :-/

That footage is recorded unstretched right? So shouldn,t add the compensating destretching tag to the dng file. I could maybe put in a "not stretched footage" in the menu so it would leave the tag alone.

Yes, it's unstretched 960 50p 3x3 binning.

Do you think this is cr2hdr rather than ML?

Edit; I also tried turning the preview to auto (switched to greyscale low fps) and the problem persisted.
