I found some really useful numbers, but cant edit the video feature chart of the first post.
I also want to add a column on the Dual ISO RAW in video. For instance supported on 600D, 650D, 700D, then ....

I would also like to see continuous recording added for 2.39, and 2.67 aspect ratios.

http://www.ramasolaproductions.com/6.html

Above is actually helpful to evaluate the 5DmkII and 7D raw resolution specs, and 2K specs.

On the 5DmkII all at 24P
1856 x 1004 = continuous recording (this is close to 16:9, but needs VAF)
1728 x 972 = continuous recording
In crop mode: (3X crop)
2144 x 1076 = 339 frames
2144 x 898 = continuous recording (this is 2K at 2.35 aspect)
1856 x 1044 = continuous recording (this is near 16:9, and I do believe crop means min. aliasing).
On the 7D
1728 x 972 = continuous recording (currently this is the max res, but needs VAF )
In crop mode (currently only 30P):
2512 x 1200 = 95 frames
2240 x 1120 = 128 frames
1920 x 1080 = 213 frames
1472 x 828 = continuous recording  (the big thing here is min. aliasing).

ShootMeAlready: Thanks so much for this post! I have been trying to figure out settings for shooting RAW for over 6 months. This website has been super informative. I didn't realize all of the benefits of the crop mode. Super awesome. Cheers.

This is a trailer I just finished for a mini-documentary contest. It is about the skateboarding scene in Korea, most notably in Seoul, as told by Wongyu Kim. I filmed it all on the 5D MKII and edited it in Premiere Pro CS6.

Directed and Edited by Sean Conley
Written by Serey Siv
Translated by Hoeun Choi
Starring Wongyu Kim
Music by A L M E E V A

It is hosted by the British Film Institute, Prime and Fire Selects, and Talenthouse in collaboration with Sidewalk Magazine. https://www.talenthouse.com/i/132/submission/127655/8a1e7052

I don't think so on the 5DM2, probably because it can only shoot max 30fps natively, so might not have the internal clocks/timers needed to do 50/60fps. As far as CF card throughput capability, theoretically it could shoot higher frame rates at lower resolutions as there exists an inverse relationship between the two in this regard.

Thank you JimmyD30. I just have seen the changing frame rates but never tried it.
Do you think 60fps at 720 is possible? I would do that.

Quote from: Doyle4 on July 14, 2014, 10:52:28 AM
Canon showed the mkii shooting 50/60fps, was going to be in a update few years back but was pulled out, main reason was the full frame sensor not been able to stay cool, new models like the mkiii with full frame have been designed to have the sensor t have more breathing space.. must be other reasons too, if you dont want to spend too much money i recommend the GoPro 3+ Black, loooove mine! hopefully one day ML will run on it :P

Sigh, the sensor. Nothing magic lantern can do about that. I might be looking into other cameras to shoot higher frame rates. I never thought I would get a GoPro, but I might be at that point.

Do you guys think it will ever be possible to shoot at 50fps?
I want to do some true slow mo stuff and don't want to have to upgrade to the 6D or MKIII.

I shoot skateboard videos and really need to be able to shoot in high frame rates.

Whoa! Amazing!
Is this available in the newest 5dMKII nightly/alpha build? Or is it coming up in a future build?

What build date are you using ?1856x928 2:1 23.976p with audio is continous , check your setting .
And  if you have the NB from feb16th you get 1872x936 23.976
Continous also.
1st, no GD on when recording raw
2nd, live view Hack on no preview
3rd, fill buffer rate, 0 fastest (I use "0" or "1"with Lexar 1000x)
I think KB cards like buffer "4"
*note* this with HDMI device attach EVF & Ninja record.
In the canon photo menu select "SRaw2"this will speed up the cam.

Hey reddeercity, I just tried the february 16th build with all of the settings you suggested, aside from the SRAW2 which I could not find and I was only able to record for 5 seconds and then it stopped recording. It also wouldn't allow playback. It would load up until the last 2 frames.

I am going to go back to the june 19th build and try these exact settings and see what results I can get.

Yes thank you a.d. and a1ex!

hey reddeercity, thanks for the response and I'm sorry that I just now saw this.

February nightly build? Wow. I was using an early May build at the time I wrote that. I'm currently using the last May build as all of the latest builds have failed.

I will try that february build with these settings. I have reading a lot about the Global Draw and buffers.
I don't have Ninja record, is it possible to still do this just in camera?

Thanks for your help.

What has happened to the 5Dmkii Scene? iv tried reading to why it has stopped but its a little confusing, miss A.D's builds and now the nightly's, wish i understood what it is they need..

I was asking myself the same question. I have the last build that was working, end of may or something. I'm a little worried as I feel like we were just getting RAW support down.

Fingers crossed. I wish I could do more than just submit log files.

Turn off "Show console" from the Debug menu.

thanks a1ex. I installed the may 20th nightly build and haven't had any issues.

While shooting yesterday, these appeared on the top and bottom of my screen:
                                                "Scanning Modules..."
                                                  "Save configs"

When I went to save configs and clicked it, 2 more save configs appeared. I rebooted my camera a few times and left it off and it finally went away. This was on the Nightly 2014 May 14 5D2212 Build.

Anyone else have this issue?

Trying to figure out if 1856x844 is the highest resolution I can get with my 5dmkii?
If not - will a Sandisk Extreeme Pro 160MB/s do any difference against my current Sandisk Extreeme Pro 100MB/s?

So far i have tested:
Transcend 64GB 1000x (not stable for even 1856x844) - sometimes continuous, but mostly just some seconds. I returned it.
Sandisk 128GB 100MB/s* (stable 1856x844 MLV w. sound). - only about 500 frames if going 1856x928

By the way, does anyone know if there is any live thread to post the 5min ppm (benchmark-files) for above cards?

I have a 5dmkii and I just tested up to 1856 X 1044 MLV with sound tonight. I only managed to record up to 5 seconds before it started skipping frames, using a komputerbay 32Gb 1000X UDMA7. 500 frames continuous at 1856X844 was the longest and most stable you could shoot at?

Canon has allowed a DIY culture to grow around the firmware hook in their cameras.  Black magic has been the disruptive one in the semi-professional space.  You also have to remember, many people have been shooting indie type stuff with Canon cameras for years.  Tons of equipment, software, techniques, etc., have evolved and are now extended to the 5D3.  No matter how great the A7R might be, it will be limited by lenses, etc.

I totally agree with maxotics. I will admit I was impressed last week when I saw the announcement of the A7R, mirrorless full frame!? But I have been using canon for a long time, back when I shot film. The community alone is enough of a reason to stay. I have a mkii and I am just now skimming the surface of what can be done. I also agree with what maxotics said about lenses. I have all 70's prime lenses with great glass. I couldn't afford these new expensive lenses but I much prefer the bokeh and look of old lenses. I personally love the way the black magic camera looks but I don't like how small the camera is. I like bigger cameras with weight, and I love the sound of the mirror.

With that said, I am excited to see what Canon puts out next, if anything to rival the new technologies coming out.

Nang, any experience with Komputerbay 32gb 1000X's? I just bought one. If it fails, I would just keep sending it back until I got one that worked. But I am moving to South Korea next week so fingers crossed it works.

QuoteI think it comes down to supply and demand, my guess is that Komputerbay pays about the same price for a 64gig chip than they do for an 128gig one so the price difference is relatively minor.

Supply and demand, yeah I guess that makes sense. It is really lucky for us.
I didn't want to throw down that much at one time so I bought the 32gb 1000x 150mbps for $70. I won't be shooting raw HD for a while, and I already have a 600X 32gb so I wanted to have a designated stills, and designated video card for my mkii.

I understand having 2 64gb, I would hate to do everything on one card and have it fail.
I am going to wait until the price drops on the 1000X's to get a 64gb.

I am trying to decide between these 2 lenses for my 5d mkii and have come here for advice/recommendations.

I am looking at the samyang 14mm f/2.8, also known as Rokinon or Bower. Same build and lens.

video:

stills: http://www.flickr.com/groups/14/

russian zenitar 16mm f/2.8
review: http://www.kenrockwell.com/zenit/zenitar-16mm.htm
video:

stills: http://www.flickriver.com/groups/zenitar/pool/interesting/

pros of the samyang are that the aperture controls would be read by the camera, and the zenitar is full manual so I would have to set aperture manually and guess. They say the zenitar is actually a 12mm horizontal and 14 vertical.
Price difference- Samyang 14mm- $296, Zenitar 16mm $189

I will be using this lens for skateboarding, music videos, and city landscape shots.

Has anyone used or know of someone using the zenitar or the samyang 14?

QuoteUn site en français pour une solution  à ce problème
Ca fonctionne parfaitement avec mon sigma 400mm f5.6
http://altomcat.blogsite.org/

Luckyluc says there is a site in french for this problem. And that it works perfectly for their sigma 400mm f/5.6

Chrome has built in google translation for websites, I took some french so I figured out almost all of it but putting it in google translate takes 5 seconds.

Damn. I was just about to order the 32gb 1050x.
Has this happened to anyone with the KB 64gb?

How can the 128gb 1050x only be $10 more than the 64gb 1050x?
http://www.amazon.com/KOMPUTERBAY-128GB-Professional-COMPACT-Extreme/dp/B00DQ8WM72/ref=pd_cp_pc_0

That doesn't seem to make sense.

I just read about this card yesterday. I was looking into either getting another 32 or the 64gb, and wondered which were faster, but this answered my question.
QuoteIf the past is anything to go by bigger the card from KBay slower it will be with the exception of the 64GB that offers the same speed as the 32GB. Lets see what Ted reports finally.

Thank you.

You're welcome.
I haven't ever used Lightroom before but I am new to post production techniques aside from premiere.
QuoteHi! Thanks!!! This preset is for Lightroom with the settings I made for the grading with it.
Thanks, I will check it out.
And for what it's worth, I like the grade as well, it makes it look like an early morning or sunset.

Yo Cameron,

I just got the mkii. Did you upgrade to the mkiii or start with it?
I plan to get the mkiii eventually but you have to start somewhere.
