How is it working RedDeer?

Is it fast?

Very well executed!

Congratulations :)

A minor Lens Correction in AE will also do wonders for your cropped fish eye footage )

When you extract the DNG's from the RAW or MLV file, You'll really feel like working with the digital equivalent of a film roll.

Frame by frame ;)

I love it!

Perhaps red colours glint the VAF filter ? I dunno..

You'll need someone smarter than me for this.

DSLR with a decent glass are quite heavy.. So you'll need something bigger than one of those white Phantom Copters.

1500$ for the DSLR itself, I'd say go with the 5D MK II. Full Frame Sensor, 22 MP Pictures, Records almost 1080p Raw Video (which is unnoticeable when scaled up) and lots of other stuff and its an awesome camera.

Mind you, Raw video requires a lot of post processing. But if you are more in to pictures, the 5D MK II will still be a camera you will love.

Good Luck.

To answer your question regarding ExFat and Fat32. It was an issue when ML RAW was first introduced cause then you were limited to 4gb clips.

The only difference between ExFat and Fat32 today, is that Exfat makes one huge file and Fat32 splits them up in 4gb files. Which is no issue at all, because all RAW or MLV processors today will automatically combine the 4gb files in to one file before extracting the DNGs.

Then you can delete the split files and keep the combined one to better keep track of your originals.

Here is a tip for you Aria. Start working with ML Raw now on your 60D! You seriously do not want to start a shoot with ML Raw without having experienced the quirks and bugs first... You need to be in the shit a couple of times so that you know what to do if (when) ML suddenly locks your camera.

The workflow is hard and slow, but it is worth it. Learn it.

How's the sensor? Rolling shutter? Size? etc :)

Saw this https://vimeo.com/95332707 video on Vimeo where it says 96 fps. Can it record 96 fps or was that made in post for the video?

Crop looked nice, no 3x crop though.
#884
are you referring to the dots outside the outline of the flowers?

Don't have a mkiii but it looks like post sharpening of some sort or is the screenshot of a unprocessed DNG?

ACR has by default 25+ sharpening if I remember correctly, but I am not familiar with Resolve.

Try looking at the next frame and see if the dots move in alignment with the flowers' outline. It might simply be something the sensor "sees".

And I might add that I could not see anything until I watched the 10x crop screenshot. Is it visible when you play it as video?

really nice video!

I enjoyed it very much :)

I will have to make due until then. Edge image works and all, it would just be so much faster if there was a button to toggle between Slightly Sharper and Edge Image, when in doubt.

I shall be waiting!

Sounds nice man!

On the 5dii half-shutter press, zoom out and AF-On buttons all have the same function, colour preview in ML Grayscale and I don't use any of those. So I got 3 buttons I could shortcut to different functions!

Looking forward to it Marsu!

@Guenter.

Sorry to say, but Marten has not been around for several months. He disappeared without a word, Hope he's okey.

Rawanizer is the greatest raw_rec post processor in my opinion. Looks like it won't ever go past 0.6.1.

Edit: but RAWanizer only needs the raw2dng to crop those 8 pixels. You can change what raw2dng Rawanizer uses.. So if someone else programs a raw2dng to crop 8 pixels, then RAWanizer will do so too.

A few questions regarding this thread and 5D II.

After all the fork talk and the closure of the other 5D MK II thread. I'm wondering what this thread is all about? I don't mean this in a patronizing way, I just feel like this 5D II thread won't have much to say anymore regarding development. I would like if someone could clarify a couple of things for me.

What is the point of this thread?

What is a.d.'s and pavdomils role now?

Can we ask for any features/changes in this thread or must we put everything in to feature request section? or where exactly? Cause I'm at a loss right now

What does the "forking" word actually mean? First time I heard that word was in the announcement. (kept reading it as something else too hehe)

Thank you.

I have a feature request or modification.

In ML menu, Digic Peaking, You can scroll from Slightly sharper to Edge Image, Slightly sharper is awesome, but still at times I am in doubt and that's when Edge Image is perfect. Is it possible that AF ON button or Zoom Out or half shutter press (or any other) could be used for quick toggling ON and OFF for Edge image? It would help a lot as a safety margin when setting focus and it would be nice if there was a quicker way to activate Edge image without going in to ML menu and scroll.

Or maybe users could choose under the Digic peaking, if they want to activate a/the shortcut button for Edge Image.

Think this would be great for all cameras.

I am on 5D MK II and on this camera it does not seem to be a problem using one of those buttons for this as they all have the same feature in RAW. Giving colour preview when ML Preview is ON. I don't know about the buttons on the other models though.

@Ted

What raw_rec version are you using in your tests?
#893
Can this thread be made to a Sticky?

Edit: Thank you!

I'm new to Magic Lantern, I'm using it to shoot RAW on a 5dII. This results in a spectaculair quality, very exciting.

I can shoot continously RAW 1880*940 2:1. This can result in multiple large files of 4 Gb which have to be concatenated on a PC using a script like
cd C:\Users\my_destination_folder
copy /B xyz.RAW+xyz.R00+xyz.R01 xyz.RAW

I'm about to create a bat file for PC that does some of the typing for me: like concatenating all RAW files in a directory, use raw2dng and clean up all files except the dng files. Since it's 15 years ago since my last bat file programming does anybody already have a bat file I could use?

Another question: I'm using After Effects to import the DNG files, which is a great way of importing, using camera RAW. I render a losless AVI file to be able to process further in Premiere Pro. It takes over one hour to create a losless AVI from 7549 frames. Is this a normal duration you think on new hardware? Are there any alternatives using Adobe software?

I'm not sure what "concatenating" means, but I think you mean merging the spanned Raw files in to one raw file.

You can download software that does this for you. For raw_rec I recommend RAWanizer. http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=5557.0

For mlv_rec MLVBrowseSharp http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=8447.0

What gets me to vote for 1888 is if the raw/mlv2dng discards those 8 Pixels.

that would be awesome!

@Audionut

I have less than zero programming skills, but couldn't a 1880 limit be set in the raw2dng, controlled by a center point? This could result in having to use two different versions of raw/mlv2dng. One specific for 1888 crop and another for all the other resolutions. I understand that creating UI's require quite some work.

But if I only got a raw/mlv2dng I can exchange the one in RAWanizer and some other batch converters eliminating the need to create a UI.

please let me know which one is 1880

Please let me know which one is 1880

@Reddeer

You mentioned card warm up off in a previous post as you think Lexar do not benefit from this? Still stands?
#897
If you are recording with raw_rec, then your raw2dng needs to be hardcoded for your camera model.

What camera are you using? search the forum for raw2dng for your camera model.. If nothing comes up, try asking one of the developers attached to your model if he can hardcode a raw2dng. Think it's fairly easy for them to do so.

Oct 24th Raw a.d. Build has 1880, I still use this built as
It is the fastest built to date for the 5d2.
They never being able to match this build since then it being down hill
For performance for the 5d2. FYI I can record 1880x1058 continuous.
So you better download it before they remove all old builds !

1880x1058 ? so 16:9 ?

Can you post what settings you were using? or pm me

@g3gg0

Perhaps the word "hate" was ill chosen.

And I'd choose (B) ofcourse, who wouldn't. The thread has gone off-topic in many directions from its original post (including this one), but the later posts have also raised some fundamental questions, in my opinion.

I do also think the name of the thread is a bit provocative even though he clearly states at the top of his post, that it's not meant to be.

Edited after post below: Look what I found. http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=7486.0

MLRawViewer is the biggest step since RAW.

Being on shoots and not being able to watch the footage was embarrassing and a great cause of concern.

The post process is hard, but thats the price we pay for the quality of RAW. In the long run, if post process will not be improved, I don't see that too many people will be using it on semi-pro/pro shoots in the future.

I think Midphase has pointed out a couple of steps that are missing. And I see some "hate" against Midphase for pointing this out. But for real world work, there are steps missing for Magic Lantern to be accepted shoots other than weekend warriors as he points out so well.

At the moment its something that needs to be thoroughly convinced to people.

my 5 cents.

ps.

I love ML dont hate.
