Raw Video / Re: 60D RAW video - it's working !!!
August 10, 2014, 09:39:33 PM
Nice job Raffal, always great to see tests that go beyond simple videos of cars and cats. Cool grading!

Also a general question for people in this thread, now that we have access to SRM I'm just curious about the capabilities of 60D's, on a 600D I can pull out 17 secs of ~ 1280x544 at 23.976,  so it enables me to work in "cinematic" 720p for 17 sec clips, which is not bad. What about the 60D, 30-40 secs? What resolutions are you using in general?

Resolve won't recognize it as a playback monitor. Resolve is coded to output a full image on an actual video HDMI/SGI interface, not to an iPad using USB.

If one wants to use 1 monitor as the GUI monitor, and the 2nd monitor as a full screen playback window, they need to get themselves a Video interface (ideally from Blackmagic so there are the least amount of issues).

Another option is investing into a dualhead (or triplehead according to personal taste), which basically takes one video card output and splits it in 2 or 3, that way you can split the screen. I have no clue how it would look, but it's an option.
A friend of mine uses it for visual installations.

edit: rereading your post, the video interface you mentioned might as well do the same (I don't know it)

Try what I told you, copy everyting on your mac, then run raw2cdng on every single file. Have you extracted dng's before, by the way?

If you want to attach an image you should just upload it to say tinypic, then post the link here.

I personally don't exactly know how the files are being indexed, hopefully someone will be able to help you.
One - harmless -  experiment you can try and might work is copying the 55 gigs .r file into a separate folder (copy, don't mess around it on your CF!) and change its extension to .raw, then see if raw2cdng (or whatever method you are using) can handle the file.

The scene at 0:29 really looks like Apocalypse Now.. :)
Great lighting too, how much added light did you work with? Seems powerful and organic.
Beautiful work.

Did you ever look in the intervalometer submenu?

;)
A little gem of a feature.. cool :)

Is there any possibility to get a FollowFocus on the Canon 600D ?
Maybe via ML ?
No, you will have to learn to manually focus. Focus peaking is a great tool for this.

"start shooting (via Intervalometer) at 4am ?
So that i don't must wake up to make a Timelaps of the sunrise ?"

that's a good idea.  any dev want to help out with this?
first I was about to say, "no, you got to set the camera up for the right settings manually", but with ETTR it's not a problem anymore.. yeah a wake on time feature would be quite nice!

Looks great! Did you use dual iso at the interior shots?

It's gonna look like total garbage, but you can do autofocusing.
You have to enable it in Canon's menu while you are in video mode, it has nothing to do with Magic Lantern.

Yeah, you really should! It's not all that frightening and complicated as it might seem first. Good luck!

Awesome camera moves man btw. Is this a jib in action?

I tried this, I copied your code and changed to path to match my path but terminal gave me the 'this is an unknown command'...
are these two separate lines right?
And if it works should i do this for every single frame? because that is going to take a while...

No man, you have to have the exiftool.exe (under mac it could be slightly different) in the same folder, because what you do here is calling this command by
exiftool , the -Blacklevel=2047 is it's parameter, which means it's going to set the black level 2047 to *.dng, as every single file with dng file extensions (that's what * does, selets every file, the .dng part specifies it to dngs), so you don't need to mess around those files one by one individually.

Also, I had this problem myself, thanks for this thread guys, I managed to fix it!

Hey A1ex, respect for all the work that has been put into the development. I'm not trying to get a quick fix for the problem - this scene is not all that important to me - but I'm curious of what actually causes this effect.
I suppose the dynamic range of the original raw images exceeds that of the dual-iso converter's understanding, hence results in pink clipping.
As this is something I have seen in other contexts as well - blown highlights in raw sequences with iso's lower than 100, and maybe other instances too - this is a matter of extending the converter's capabilities to handle overblown highlight info, right?

Why not shoot raw in the first place, anyways..?
Now you can put effects and maybe improve the image somewhat, but there is no way to get back the original look. The only real way to fix it is to reshoot the scenes (preferably in raw this time),

If you are really eager to trick the system - something that is harmful for the art and industry of photography - you should figure out the exact jpeg compression details of canon cameras and compress into that from cr2 instead of requesting a feature that ethically does not fit ML.
#42
Great cameramoves and cuts, but I'd have really graded it differently: I think a more contrasty, colder "high tech" look would suit much more a theme like this than the dreamy hipsto-lomo stuff.
#43
What ISO is this? Also, it's h264 right?
And third one: why high jello mode? Go with "low light" for creamy motion blur, or "exact fps" for longer time intervals without an ND.
#44
I really like this concept, actually I'm rather inspired to make my own. :)
I think adding environmental ambience is a good idea, but I found the scratching - close mic noises to be distracting. Considered using an external mike maybe?

Cool stuff.

That's just the way to go man, unless you are shooting crop you have to be really conscious of any possible aliasing and moire that could show up in your footage when you are working with Canon DSLRs.
Have you tried the video function of the 5d2..? It records the same aliased image, only with significantly less detail.

General Development / Re: ML Interface Design

I don't know whether a new gui is in the works or not, but sure it would be great to see some concept art of your ideas.
#47
You won't be able to get 48 fps on 1080p, it maxes out somewhere above 30 (in my experience above this the video gets rather unstable and the footage ends being unusable with glitches), for 720p 48fps you gotta go to FPS override then dial it to .. 48fps. Set the optimization to Low light or to Exact fps, based on your personal needs.
If you are not sure how exactly to navigate between the menus and set things that's a rather different matter, then I'd suggest you possible looking for introductory videos on the net or - even better - just go on and play with it for an afternoon or two - don't worry, you can't do any real damage.
#48
They have recently released a new port for modern systems - you can play all your heart wants :)
#49
Did you find something?

This was completely awesome! Damn, you guys completely nailed the look and feel of the video game... usually these ideas come along being executed "somewhat ok", and with all that "I appreciate the effort" but hot damn, this one is a complete different league! :)
Congrats for all the creators, it was a joy to watch!
