Nice work!!!  How much, if any, did you shoot RAW?  Many of the scenes have a beautiful film look.  Or, if you didn't shoot RAW, how did you use Magic Lantern in the making of your video?

I upgraded from a 50D to the 7D.  Very stable, much easier to use.  AND audio!  To think a filmmaker could buy a $400 body and get this kind of quality is fantastic.  Too bad so many are misguided in the trade-offs between 8-bit 4K and 14-bit RAW.  Anyway, MLV Producer is amazing.  I can't get over how good it is.  It deals with my EOS-M's focus dots and does all the correction I'd want in the 7D RAW files.

I laugh to think of all the time I spent on the EOS-M a couple of years ago.  I blew many brain cells on the focus pixel problem.  In case you haven't seen this, this is what I came up with at the end, a windows program that takes a known pattern (crop mode) and removes the pixels through debayering.  The "parallelism" idea didn't work as either Alex or g3ggo predicted (frames get out of order).  Anyway, there may be code in here that's of some use to you.  I don't remember what I did, so probably couldn't answer any questions.  Sor far, I find the stripe removal in mlrawviewer to be good enough for me.

I just looked at the code again.  I think blood just came out of my ear  :-X

Levas, yes, I normally resize (un-stretch) but liked the look so left it.  I also don't want to let ML get "un-fun" for me again by trying to do too much ;)

I sold the 2 EOS-Ms I had a couple of years ago. I bought another last year for a price I couldn't refuse. It sat around for awhile. I've had 2 BMPCC.  Bought, sold, bought, sold.   Had Olympus Primes.  Great cameras.  However, felt it was a lot of money to tie up in something I don't use often.  If I keep going here, I might get one again.  I also had a Sony X70 camcorder.  What a beautiful clean image.  BUT, a one inch sensor limits shallow DOF.

I have a Sony A6000, a5100, A7, and A7R.  Great all a-rounders! I just don't get the emotional feel I get from RAW.  As much as I see the benefits in 4K (true 1080 in my opinion) it still feels a bit sterile, unless you start with the C100, or BM 4K.

Anyway, I ordered a 7D last night.  I was going to get a 70D until I saw the EOS-D do sound.  Again, I'm blown away by the accomplishment!

dfort.  As always, any way I can help, let me know!

I can't believe the Magic Lantern engineers got sound to record with RAW on the EOS-M!  I am so looking forward to getting a 7D to replace my 50D.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHmCNBFH414

Unlike my previous video, I will not offend your senses with in-camera 8bit video footage ;)

Also, again, if anyone has an current-build configuration for getting dependable 24fps non-crop video from the 50D please let me know.  I still get crashes.  Thanks!

Still, I come back to it!  :)  I recorded audio on my Android phone using "best audio recorder", then uploaded to my Google Drive.  For video, I exported using MLRawViewer, usually as C-log, or HDR Tone-map.  Even doing this bare-bones post processing I felt I had nicer video clips to drop into my Premiere timeline.  Syncing audio was easy using hand-claps.

I experienced intermittent card-write errors and camera lock-ups.  If there is a current best practices fo 50D raw please post a link.  Seems to be working fine at the moment.  I still feel that even Sony's latest 4K video, as nice as it is, can't match the film-feel of ML RAW.

I have also encountered the shutter bug with the 11-22 lens

Have you shot any 720p RAW with that lens in crop mode?  Or have you seen any video on Vimeo or Youtube that has?  It looks like a killer lens with IS.  Can't get it here in the States, at least not inexpensively.

I have a BMPCC, which is an amazing camera.  I feel for you if you don't have that option.  The EOS-M has so much potentials there just aren't enough devs to get it stable.  I wish we could clone 1%, or A1ex with an EOS-M brain ;)

Received my Fujian today, and I have a couple of questions for you. Seems the back focus needs a little adjustment to have accurate infinity, same case with yours? If I unscrew the lens a ways, I'm able to correct this, and I'm just wanting to make sure my adapter is built right. Also, I don't know what the GH1/NEX guys are talking about, but I have zero vignetting with this glass; seems to cover the whole sensor. Again, same case with you?

I never use the lens to take a photo of anything at infinity ;)  For me it's a shallow-depth of field bokeh monster.  I know you can calibrate it to focus properly at infinity, as the other posters say, but I never bothered.

The benefit of this lens, to me, is it takes you away from the technology and back to primitive imaging--though with fantastic sharpness in the center (or where you're focused.).

Sometimes ML changes Canon firmware settings, like Audio for H.264.  It may have turned off "shoot w/o lens", so check that.  Also, if all that fails, re-set all options in the config menu, change from default to shoot w/o lens, then try again.

Also, I now bring an extra card for shooting still normally with the EOS-M (though haven't had much time for that lately).  Anyway, make sure you have another card with you at event without ML on it for still shooting.

Nice lens!  10 years ago I suspected these lenses might make a come-back but didn't bother to collect them when I saw them on old cameras at garage sales.  I had my chances ;)

Just ordered one for 20 euros...    ;D

Is that video shot full frame, or 3x crop?

Best 20 euros you will have ever spent!  Make sure you get the effective 35mm 1.7,  I found the 25mm to have too much vignetting.

I shot the video in normal mode (no crop) with ML CBR set to 1.3, but I doubt that effected the quality much.  The irony is that I never meant to shoot this video with the EOS-M.  I had brought my 50D with 16GB card, to shoot RAW, and ran out of space in a few minutes!  (BTW, a corrupted frame at the end made the video useless--didn't feel like spending the time to fix).

The lighting was really nice, near sundown, cloudy, that surreal evenly lit feel.  So I only shot this with the EOS-M as a nothing else better to do.

What's really nice about that focal plane you mentioned is it allow you to shoot multiple looks with one camera lens.  It helps the viewer not get tired of the same view, sort of poor man's way of making a multi-camera shoot ;)

Anyway, I look forward to what you shoot with the lens!  Photographers pay thousands of dollars to get wide aperture lenses for portraits on full-frames (like me) and yet this lens can give you virtually the same look.  You don't have to spend thousands of dollars to get a nice shallow DOF.

I kind of dig the dreamy barrel distortion. Not great of course for all applications, but fun for what it is.

I too, put on the Fujian onto my EOS-M on a lark and now I can't bear to take it off!

All these shots that don't say D600 were shot with the EOS-M and Fujian 35mm 1.7.   That's right, thousands of dollars worth of camera in the Nikon and I'm still reaching for this baby.  LOW LIGHT, no flash!

Here's another shot.

And of course my Angry Toddler's video which I'll post again  It takes some getting used to the lens. It is truly an artistic tool.   If you focus too hard the lens can come screwing off.   Getting the camera to take properly exposed photos AND show on the screen takes some finesse (I usually use Aperture mode).  Did I say I LOVE this lens :)

Here is the meetup information for February 5th, 2014 in Cambridge, Massachusetts (near Boston).

http://www.meetup.com/Magic-Lantern-RAW-Video-and-Blackmagic-Cinema-Cameras/events/159199382/

For the first meetup I hope to have various people go through the complete process, from installing ML, to  shooting and post.   We will also cover Blackmagic cameras.

I hope this will be a monthly or quarterly meeting.  So please don't try to travel far for this event.  Hopefully there will be others.

What do you see now that you like?
I'm just hopeful that this new push on ML for the EOS-M will result in a reliable hack that I can use.  As you know, I've been using the BMPCC and it is very reliable.  The last time I was using ML it wouldn't turn audio back on for H.264.  If I switched to photo mode without re-setting FPS the LV would get scrambled.

Another reason I've come back is Microsoft finally gave me a date to use their Research facility in Cambridge, MA for a Video RAW meetup.  I know you're not local, but I'm hoping we can eventually either web-cast or skype people in.  Still a ways to go.

BTW, I also spent a little with with Duncan, who bought my 50D, he showed me the latest on that camera and it is very impressive.

A quick note.  Loaded a version from 1/6/2014.  Looks promising!  Haven't had time to read the posts from the past few weeks.  Was able to shoot some 720p RAW and go into photo mode and take a photo.

That's interesting jonnyginese, didn't notice that before!  My guess is if the output doesn't play in Windows media player it's RAW ;)

Here's an effort to create a tool that creates Cineform RAW

http://www.primehd.net/news/raw-2-cf-raw/

I want to point out, again, that RAWanizer is only a GUI to command line apps.  You can use raw2gpcf with some switches that create Cineform 422.  However, I think the de-bayering is a little weak.

Resolve has come a long way; the Free/Lite version is all you need. You can easily import DNGs and create almost any output, which you can use in any editor.  I recommend that you spend your time with Resolve, which wasn't really a solution a few months ago, but now is.

D.L. Watson did a very nice tutorial recently.

You probably don't want to pick the BMRaw camera setting that he does in the video.  There are other tutorials I would find and watch.

How i wish be there  :(   I already think to make a european ML meeting/dinner but i think, at least for me (no money), will be difficult in general because of resources=money.

I'm hoping we can set up a Skype, or similar setup, so anyone worldwide can attend.  In any case, I'm hoping we can have these on a regular basis, so the first one is more to gauge interest and get things going.

Microsoft has agreed to let me organize an event at their research facilities in Cambridge, MA U.S.A.

Anyone would be encouraged to talk about

Magic Lantern Development
Using ML Video RAW
Post Processing techniques
Davinci Resolve, etc.

It would be very informal.  You don't need to be an expert!  If no one wanted to present, we could just meet and show each other stuff.

Please post if you're in the Boston area and would be interested in attending such a meet-up.  Let me know what days/times would be best for you.

Jerrykil sounds like a similar problem to the FPS I mentioned.  If LV gets messed up it usually means usable RAW.  In photo mode, if LV gets messed up, the camera may work okay, but difficult to compose/set exposure, etc.  I would say that LV going into scrambled-Easter-egg mode is the most serious bug on EOS-M, however it happens.

Raw Video / Re: Problems with 600D
December 04, 2013, 11:04:37 PM
Yes, I believe you can find and interpolate around those pixels.  Similar efforts have worked for me with FocusPixelFixer, however, that particular problem is not worth the effort, which isn't insignificant, even though it sounds easy in theory.  Anyway, the de-bayering algo you use can have a strong effect on showing, or not showing, those isolated pixels.  Alex has already implemented smoothing algos into raw2dng.

Anyway, you could fork https://bitbucket.org/maxotics/focuspixelfixer this and get on the fast track to finding and interpolating around those pixels.

you realize that when we merge it the bugs + shortcomings will be the same as ML fixes are pulled into my repo regularly and a lot of stuff is the same in both

Absolutely, 1%!  Not implying whatsoever that the bugs are your fault.  I'm curious about the following.  Would love some answers, perhaps can help others.

o. Assuming someone has basic C knowledge, how many hours would take them to learn enough ML to contribute fixes to any of these bugs.  My guess would be 40+ hours.

o. How long would it take, I know hard for you to say, but some guess...

1. Make it so audio is turned back on when switching from RAW to H.264.
2. Turn custom FPS off when going from video to photo mode (to stop screen issues), and turn it back on when going back to RAW

Are there any other big issues, except for the shutter bug?

Thanks for your time 1%.

Mhh, maybe, but still they do a great job!

But I still wonder that the EOS M doesn´t catch more interest.

Sorry, didn't meant to diminish your sentiment!  My 2-cents is the EOS-M doesn't catch more interest, and ML isn't as successful as it can be, because there is no stable build for it and similar cameras.  The easier something is, the more people will use it.  ML is very low on the easy-to-use curve.
