Wow! That's a hell of a lot more useable and the preview is centered which is absolutely kickass.

I get 30 frames in UHD, but 3K is still continuous for me in crop_rec. The preview does drop back to greyscale about 50% of the time in 3K. The colour preview is more detailed and has a higher refresh rate... it's pretty much usable, I think.

a1ex,  if you can improve the greyscale preview you will be the king of kings

If you don't have a 5D3, you can check out fifty 3K frame grabs here:

I'm getting continuous recording at this resolution in 14bit lossless.

@hyalinejim: Hmm... it's about 93mb/sec. Which CF card did you use?

OK, so the long file I recorded is 218,855,342 KB and it's 55,874 frames at 3072 x 1286 resolution.

Card is Komputerbay 256GB 1066x

a1ex, which of the crop modes offer a real-time, colour preview?

37 minutes at 3072 x 1286?! Wow. How many GB was the whole clip?

Just checked the card: 208GB.

hyalinejim is that losslessly compressed video you were able to record for 37 minutes?

Yes, indeed. By comparison, at the same resolution on my card I got around seven seconds in 10 bit. To be clear, I stopped the lossless 14bit recording at 37 minutes. It's only limited by the size of your recording media.

Nice one!

EDIT: Checked out new build and I'm happily recording at 3072 x 1286. Around 37 minutes into that take now and temperature is showing as 55 degrees. Previously I'd never really seen it go above around 45.

I should note that on my first recording I had modules mlv_rec, _play and _lite loaded: I got the grayscale preview for a very brief time and then the LCD switched to some kind of report log that I haven't seen before.

2nd recording I switched off all modules except mlv_lite: I got greyscale preview continuously but recording stopped automagically after around 4 minutes.

3rd recording lowered resolution to 2880 x 1320 and very quickly got the onscreen log again:

Here are my original settings (first recording) if it helps:

Output of "mlv_dump file.mlv -v" ?

Is this what you need?

This is 1.1.3

Ran camera for 11 minutes at 3168 x 1320 24p. First frame of the recording looks good to me:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/8trg0exly76nx9a/m01-1531_000000.dng?dl=0

However mlv dump gave up after 101 frames with this message:

Unknown Block: )Nh,, skipping
[ERROR] Invalid block size at position 0x1981e600
Processed 101 video frames

Amazing! Had my fingers quietly crossed for this.

Nice work! Have you ever shot a colour chart with the 5D and Alexa side by side? If so I'd be very interested to see a DNG from each.

That sounds awesome - particularly DCP support!

Thanks megapolis for your quick reply! Your suggestions worked to re-enable parts of the interface. Here is a link to the DNG file:

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B1exEpCRAfgFQ1VOV1BCazBrVVk

It was shot in anamorphic, so it is laterally distorted. It's an interesting image as the candle flame will show aliasing artifacts typical of the 5D as sharpness is increased. Otherwise, the sharpening is very good indeed.

However, panel docking is not working well.

It seems good from what I briefly saw of it, "enhance" seems to reduce aliasing, but not as good as ACR with Cinelog, nor is the highlight reconstruction as good:

Sharpening and noise reduction is not working for me in the new version. I cannot change the sliders, even with the demo project. And I cannot find the export window.

AFAIK everything you need is in the Canon audio menu and therefore isn't needed in the ML menu for 5D3

ah yeah.. the wall I hit was the Mac ;)

I am on PC.

MLVProducer works really well with dark frame subtraction. Using one of its Log exports you can get very similar looking results to ACR or Resolve, although the colours are not quite the same as either of those two. But it's worth it for any low light footage. And it's quite straightforward to use, if a little idiosyncratic.

That, combined with a good Neat Video temporal noise reduction will give you clean-ish video with fairly accurate colours at 12800 on the 5D3.... especially if it is exposed to the right. It might be a little bit smeary here and there due to the noise reduction but it's more usable than you might expect.

Here's an ISO 12800 with plenty of shadow areas denoised using darkframe + Neat Video:

I love it! Cinelog is amazing for so many reasons.

FYI, continuous 2.8k 2.39:1 is possible. That's a 2x crop. Same as MFT.

10bit looks damn good in my experience.

But first things first: the preview in 10 and 12 bit crop mode is frozen when recording. There's little point in worrying about crop mode tradeoffs until (if) it will be fixed.
#96
Save yourself a headache and upscale as the last step before export.

+1

Looking forward to checking out Cinelog 2017. The ACR workflow is slow, but for times when image quality is of the utmost importance it can't be beat.
#98
Did you have the sound module

1. Loaded

and

2. Enabled

when shooting?

Before I figured out how to get MLVFS up and running on Windows, I used this, which is really straightforward:

Latest version is at the bottom of the page. More info here if you need it:

Premiere doesn't use ACR to import DNGS as it's expecting cinema DNGs which are different to "photo" DNGs. The metadata fields where the Lightroom adjustments are stored are not recognised in the Cinema DNG format.

Your best bet is to import them as image sequences in After Effects, where ACR will open for each sequence. It will apply the settings of the first file in the sequence to the whole clip. From there you can export to a lossless codec and edit in Premiere. For maximum flexibility use Cinelog DCP to generate 444 log masters, rather than using ACR's controls which are adaptive and not absolute and therefore introduce flickering. So you have to be careful about most of the shadow/highlights/contrast sliders if you want to use ACR.

Alternatively put all the Cinema DNG clips in a sequence in Premiere and do the same in After Effects. Nest that sequence to edit in Prem. When you're done, do the colour correction in After Effects and import that comp into Premiere, placing it on the track above your first sequence. Your edit will now have your colour correction applied.

Neither of these workflows are particularly straightforward, or fast. Another option is to use Resolve to generate log masters, which is pretty fast. Set your timeline to Cineon gamma and Alexa gamut. But definitely don't colour your CDNGs directly in Premiere as its debayering is pretty poor. ACR gives best results but is very slow.
