I am actually getting into this camera a lot more, I forgive its aliasing and other issues because its like a damn swiss army knife with ML installed.
Also I love the actual ergonomics of the camera, its a solid piece of metal, its tough, small, easy to hold. I love taking shots in the streets and stuff and no one cares when you have a tiny little cam like this. The still images are actually really nice out of the cam, the video footage is like muddy and aliasing and moire but still better than most cheap camcorders and this cost me £100 with the kit lens! Also the audio in is nice and clean, just chucked in a lapel mic and record nice clean audio.

One thing is though the audio seems to be coming in much hotter than the meter indicated? Was literally almost clipping when I saw it on the timeline... Noted it is a little on the hot side, better to have too much gain than not enough like the BMPCC!

I hope the more I master this camera I can get cleaner images from the video, but for now, for a bit of fun and a decent stills camera its a steal. I have a better camera if I want some cleaner video. It is also good to have this community here to ask any questions and learn from...

See that darn RGB moire crap in the trees? Is that normal?

How are you guys getting these high frame rates? Can you only do this in crop mode and in raw? With the cinematic aspect ratio? 2:35?
Is shooting in raw the only way to get rid of the horrible rgb noise and aliasing I get when in normal/codec/not cropped mode?

I started using a manual lens and the shutter bug has ceased sorry for my moody post zzz
Seems it is much more buggy with the kit lens.
Now just looking at how to do all the cool stuff like over crank the fps, shoot in different resolutions and the like...
Thanks guys!

One question I do not have the option to shoot at a lower bitrate in the raw movie recording options, in a youtube video he shows to shoot at lower bitrates for more stable recording but I cannot see this it seems to be missing from my menu?

Here it is very reliable. I can record in 5K anamorphic mode all over the day without one single corrupted frame, without one single crash. Same for 45fps at a little less than 1080p. 2.5K at 48fps is not possible with EOS M (and will never be): card interface is way too slow - that is simple math.

What's the problem with shutter release? Absolutely don't know what you mean. I can take pictures at any time in picture mode and can record video at any time in video mode - without changing anything in settings.

For zoom mode in 1080p you have to press exactly one button after start.

Don't write ML is useless and unreliable if you don't know what you do, or if you don't know if you're doing it right.

what sd card you useing?

That's probably the "shutter bug". You can read about it here and also search in the print view of the current thread.

Bro this is literally thousands and thousands of posts of technical gibberish... Am I supposedly meant to read through it all to get some answer to why it basically makes the camera completely useless? I thought it was meant to be working on the EOS M.. Just a total mess. No guide or manual no information nothing works... I dunno why people like zeek go on about how great it is, its not. Its just a mess of experimental ideas that dont work. Massively disappointed and kinda feels like a waste of money this was the main reason I bought a EOS M. But nothing works.. :( Why can't anyone be bothered to make a proper manual or help page, we have to sift through pages and pages of posts that lead no where. If so many people love this software so much they certainly arent sharing how to use it.

I am just trying to take a photo and its not working so... I dunno what you mean I dont know what I do or if I do it right.? thats why I am posting on this forum to ask.. Its not so complex .... Why be a baby about it...
When ML is installed the shutter release just doesnt work 60% of the time, in video mode or stills mode.. It is so unreliable that I had to uninstall ML...
There is no guide or manual so its really about trial and error, I have no idea how to get around the 30 minute video recording limit, or record higher resolutions than 1080p.. Or maybe even shoot a higher frame rate than 30fps... Nothing works its very buggy and frustrating and reliability is everything with photography or filmmaking if you missed that moment then you never getting it back.

ML is a bit of fun but it is so unreliable. It constantly deactivated the shutter release so I unable to start recording or taking a photograph without restarting sometimes multiple times.

I have many other questions but I don't know if it's worth noting them all here. I would like to know how to record higher resolutions with some stability, or record more FPS than 30. Having the ability to record 50fps at 1080 would be incredible and seems realistic as people are recording 2.5K at 48fps.

The crop/zoom mode that removes the aliasing and moire always deactivates when I restart the camera and I have to go into the menu and reactivate it. Again makes it kinda useless for anything serious.

One more, can I manually control the audio levels without entering into the menu? maybe set up the dial to control the gain?

Many thanks for any help! :-)

Wow ok thanks how the hell did you know that?
So they are meant to be?
Ok I will try what you say!

Thanks so much.

On the monitor of the camera not on my video, the video is being shot on my phone. Can you see what is happening in the video? It is a video of my camera made with my phone and after I take a pic the camera previews the photo and while the photo is on screen there is a line along the top and bottom.

what does"RTFM, esp. p108." mean?

are those lines supposed to be there???
does anyone know?

Camera-specific Development / Re: Canon EOS M
August 25, 2018, 08:20:12 PM
HI there I am pretty new to all this I just got the EOS M and installed Magic Lantern and I am hooked already.

I wondered how can I help?

I wanted to play around with pushing the frame rates higher, I couldn't work out how to get it into 3x crop mode to get rid of moire and aliasing.

Still getting used to things. So the ML menu just over rides everything in the standard canon menu? I am on 25p but in the ML menu it says 30p.

I am just reading into everything now and it is all quite complex and overwhelming but if I can do some testing or reports to help I will as I would like to use this cam to shoot a documentary and have some more reliability and functionality, not that it will be overnight but every little counts right?

Is there a way to shoot in log profile in standard 1080 25p reliably?

Anyway a lot of questions so leave it at that. And greeting to you all. Dom.

There are long lines across the image when it appears on the screen of the camera at the top and bottom they are very obviously there. Take another look.

They do not appear in stills mode.

Are they meant to be there? Or was it magic lantern that glitched out ?

I saved the log files.

I uninstalled it how you are supposed to by loading firmware then waiting.

See the blue bars at the top and bottom of the screen when it shows the picture preview? Isn't that a glitch?

Hi I have a problem because I bought a camera to run some tests and now I want to return it but after uninstalling magic lantern it still appears that some strange remnants of the graphics overlay still appears on screen sometimes. I saved the log files when I installed it as instructed. What can I do to get it back to exactly how it was from the factory?

Thanks.

General Help Q&A / EOS M higher frame rates in 1080p
August 21, 2018, 07:15:13 PM
Hi there I saw a video showing the eos m shooting 2.5k raw. Surely it can handle 1080p at 50fps or even 40 or something?
I will do a bunch of tests when I receive my camera.

Hi I am not able to test in such a way but there is definitely a bug and it even states on the ML page that audio features for the 600D (not 60D) are unavailable. I wonder how you got to show audio levels natively in the canon display?? Thats all I wanted from ML anyway so if that is already there I am moaning about nothing.

Hi I find that I have to go into the normal canon menu and tweak the sound level there then when I come out to live view the level metering is working but it is so un reliable I am un installing ML. Also I went over 60 degrees heat today I was worried as it showed up red on screen. Is that dangerous?

If the leveling worked well adn I didnt have heating issue would leave on my camera but seems too risky as I am using it for professional jobs and do not want any risk.

Hey guys I am having problems with the audio meters in the Canon 600D. I have an external preamp/xlr adapter on top of my camera. I really just want accurate audio meters on screen so I can bypass the internal volume control. But it does not show any signal at all. I have checked in the Canon menu and I am definitely getting a signal from my Saramonic SR-PAX1 into the canon. It is just not registering in ML's audio metering system. I do not want to control the volume digitally from ML but from the analogue knobs on the preamp. Anything I can do? Or just a bug in the nightly build?

Hi yes I know what it says in the manual but as this hack unlocks more features and has the fps over/underdrive and as you can record 60fps raw on the canon 5dMKIII I thought it might have been possible on the EOSM...

Camera-specific Development / FPS override avchd?
July 28, 2015, 12:27:02 PM
Hi I cannot find this information anywhere.
I just want to know if the EOSM will shoot 1080p at 60fps (or more?) in normal avchd mode?

I am afraid I just cannot get this to work.
When I try to create a Prores file it jusst fails..
10:01:26 Start extracting dng from M06-1213.RAW
10:02:15 Finished
10:02:15 Start converting tiff from M06-1213.RAW
10:04:39 Finished
10:04:39 Start creating proxy from M06-1213.RAW
10:04:39 Failed:
FFmbc version 0.7-rc8

10:04:39 All items Finished

I am pretty sure I was making some video files from this earlier but they just wouldnt open in anything. Now I cannot make any video file. Whats ffmbc? DO I need a newer versionof that?

Virtual Dub does not open DNG files as an image sequence?

You are free to choose the quality of the proxy files. So it's up to you if you want to consider them proxies or final video. The file name will always contain .proxy though.

Ah ok.. strange tho as when i try to open them it just says there is no video or audio present. I will try again. I was not aware that the word proxy would always be there.

Thanks for the reply I am kinda loosing hair over getting these raw files into a video format! ;-)

Thanks for the awesome software once I get my head around this and can generate a ProRes444 or equivelant file that will work in Premiere I will be soo happy!

Yeah I don't know what else I could have tried I turned everything off in the settings.
FPS seemed the only way to make this work!
