It s the same, and does absolutely the same.
Chainfire (dslr controller) provides a firmware for it with which you can use dslr controller with this router

Hi guys,
just wanted to show you some of my work, except for the Red footage, everything i shot was on MK III with magic lantern : http://vimeo.com/thegadgetfilms/portfolio
Started out on h264 but for work, i only shoot in raw.
I can t tell you how much i appreciate your work!
Started with a 550d with ML 4 years ago, therefore i used to film with "real" cameras like sony fx7.

Raw Video / Re: 5D Raw vs. Alexa vs. BMCC

No one in the world is able to judge material that was uploaded and compressed by vimeo.

Schön geworden-

Just did a CC and grading for a commercial video, filmed on Red and MKIII RAW.
I used to be a magic bullet fan, then i played with resolve the last year and what i did on this video- color correction via magic bullet.
It has almost everything, davinci has, but is way easier to handle with premiere, because you don t have to export and stuff.
even the keyer in colorista 2 is nice, seperating skintones is no problem. so if you do not want to do heavy keying (eg skin, eyes and background) which needs parrallel notes, go for magic bullet.

Tried the Feb 24th.,
when recording raw, there are no grey bars which show the recorded area. Or do i miss something?

May i ask how you apply lut in acr?
i thought you have to go flat with visionlog, and then apply a lut in ae.
when i try this, my footage always looks like crap. am i missing something?

I filmed this with a steadycam. I just made a little behind the scenes/ leftover clip which i want to publish within the next days, but feel free to preview it, there you can see the steadycam.

haha thanks a lot, i really appreciate that!
The video was not meant for commercial purposes, i do not earn one cent with it.

(Also gab es keinen Kunden, dem dies auf die Eier ging ;) )

Hi guys.
Just wanted to share this clip i madeduring summer.
I shot raw on MK III , glidecam and Slider and also did time/ hyperlapse.
The idea behind this project is explained on the vimeo page.
It was really fun shooting this, the only thing i hated was rendering out- 12 hours.. found a mistake... 12 hours again...

If you have any questions regarding the workflow, fell free to ask me.

Some tech stuff:
RAW Workflow with Magic Lantern:

Check newest Magic Lantern builts every day. Record. Check footage, write down timecode and some meta data, import video and audio, double safe.
There was no post workflow that satisfied me, i do not want to work with davinci, so i had to figure out my own.
Transferring RAW to DNG. Importing DNG in After Effects. Doing wb, lights and stuff in ACR.
Import into sequence. Create proxys.
Open in Premiere.Doing everything except colour correction and degraining. Uncheck proxys, cc. Sidenote: I really love Magic Bullet Colorista. It also works in 16 bit, and it can do everything Davinci can.
Animated masks, keying, working together with Magic Bullet Looks.
Also the Magic Bullet Denoiser works great for me, Neat Video was not stable and did not get the results i wanted.
(Check this: If you turn on "Motion" in Magic Bullet Denoiser, rendering time almost doubles)
I had like 200 GB of RAW Material, plus the cr2 files from timelapse and hyperlapse.
The final export took 12 hours.
Thanks to Magic Lantern RAW, i had full 14 bit video. Did not export the whole 6:30 min clip uncompressed yet, but expect it somewhere at 30 GB.
There is no comparing to 8 bit video, "normal" dslrs gives you. It`s not about resolution, 4k, 120fps and stuff
-it' s all about dynamik range.

One question about flickering-
i am processing with acr and the 2012 profile.
because the highlights sucked, it decided to pull down the "lights" bar for a test, and was expecting heavy luma flickering. but there is nothing.
is it always flickering when pulling the sliders which shouldn t be pulled, or just only in special cases?
it s a normal evening shot with burned highlights

The 5d´s sensor is ways bigger an better than the c100´s...

Very nice!

By the way, what we see ist just the center of the milky way, so many stars because the gravity of the black hole in the middle ist that high.
On earth, we can see like 2000-3000 stars. if earth wasn t at the edge of milky way, but near the center, we would see over 1 million of stars.
imagine taking pictures from the stars with f8 and 1/1000

No, because you have to sent in your camera and they are going to change the sensor.

Raw Video / Re: Canon 5d MKII RAW Quality
November 06, 2013, 12:20:02 AM
yes, like ae, you get a little yellow warn signal next to the effect when applied.
in some cases, like vignette, it does not matter. but when you try to add levels, it really fucks up your footage ;)

ok, keying i a good reason, but you also can do it with mb colorista II.
but you also can key in the ae comps , or do split screen or whatever, and it shows up in premiere.

Pretty much the same- ACR import, put same locations (like inside a house, outside in the garden, whatever) in one comp, safe project. for each comp i create a h264 proxy.
open premiere, go to import via dynamik link, select the kompositions from the ae project i want (funny sidenote- you can choose comps from different ae projects if you want).
so now i have the h264 proxys in premiere. cut them and do what i want. then toggle the proxys off in ae, so i have the full resolution in premiere for doing colour correction via magic bullet, which i reeeeally love. render out, done. you can always go back to acr for several corrections.so if you already know which look you re going for, there is no need for luts or something like that. AND- with acr you only will see the first frame, so using this method you can always go back to acr if your cc does not match like the end of the clip.
one thing i did not try out (but have to tomorrow...) is how the footage holds up against warp stabilizer in premiere. i did it on the proxys, not sure if they will be the same when turning the proxys off...
(and- you re not able to do time remapping AND stabilizer together, so maybe stabilizing in ae, and doing time remapping in premiere will work... i don t know.
but that s very special.)

one more trick- when you open footage from the same location/day/ same light situation and stuff in acr, you usually will  save a colour preset so you can apply it to the next clip. but if you did your acr corrections, just hit the button "save acr preset", so the next file you will open has exact the same settings.

You really have to watch out, using this workflow, because if you want to do cc in premiere, there are some effects (like levels ) which do not support 16 bit.
is there a reason why you do cc in ae?
for me, i am pretty excited about magic bullet in premiere. full 32 bit compatible, masks and everything.

Premiere CS6 does not import 14 bit Files.
So going from AE (i never tried to save as a pp project, just saved the comp in ae and opened ae sequence in premiere.
There you are, 14 bit, and the possibility to change the values in acr.

Nice topic!

There are several discussions WHEN to degrain-
It does not make any difference if you denoise before, or after cc, just do the same on each clip! From neatvideo:
Such operations as tonal/color correction are quite conservative from the standpoint of noise, i.e., they do not significantly change the noise characteristics of the video sequence. Therefore, filtering before or after makes little difference – as long as the noise profile is built and applied at the same stage of your workflow. For example, don't use a device noise profile built with an unprocessed (;the color correction is not yet applied) video sequence to filter the same sequence with the color correction applied

Raw Video / Re: 5d mark III best settings

Wb or or picturestyle do NOT affect raw.
By the way, if you record h264, never ever use cinestyle!
This flat profile does not make anything better, except you are shooting in the dark...

Raw Video Postprocessing / Re: The CinemaDNG Discussion
November 02, 2013, 02:32:30 PM
I just did a 200 GB project with this workflow,
it s the only one which holds up the full quality during the post process.
I am editing videos for about 15 years now, and with my new i7, i can play for and back in the timeline as i want it. i remeber some time when even viewing h264 footage was not really able with premiere.
Feel free to show a more efficient workflow...
