It's all sourced from the same LV feed afaik.

Of course, H.264 then throws the data through a different processing chain.
From what I remember, the processing chain for H.264, does some further resizing steps on the source feed.  Not sure if this is only for the chroma component, or the entire source.
Thanks!

Audionut, thank you for your quick response. However, this has to do with RAW video, and I was wondering the resolution according to h.264 video. Is this confirming my theory that the footage is upscaled in camera?
Thanks again.

very awesome!  :D

It means that a library that is widely used by a number of programs that do video will have native support for MLV. Which means any of the programs that use that library will defacto have support for MLV. Which means that you will be able to playback MLV files with any of these already existing programs. Almost all open source video applications use this library (called ffmpeg).

It doesn't really say anything about speed or performance (it could be better or could be worse, that's not the point), it just means that there will be widespread, generic support for the MLV file format amongst open source software applications.
That's great news! Will this possibly lead to MLV being supported by adobe down the road? Or would this development not pressure Adobe enough to do that due to the ties between canon and adobe?

what great news!!! OMG! so, in the next time all fmpeg-based-players (fi vlc..) will play MLV - this is so freaky. converting will be easy as well. omg omg omg.
Sorry I'm not as technically advanced as all y'all. What does this mean for converting? A better and faster debayer program? Thanks.

Hello, instead of starting a new thread I thought I should re purpose this one.
Does the 50d record true h.264 1080P? I know cameras like the 6d or 5d mk ii are slightly under that and are limited to the resolution that the live view receives (more or less). The 50d only receives 15-- something so is that just upscaled in camera to 1080p?
Thanks.

I was shooting at the 50d's max no-crop resolution for RAW.

@painya,

DSLR video is subject to aliasing due to line-skipping. RAW video does not negate this issue. The only way you can avoid it is to use crop mode.
Right! Thank you very much. I forgot that it had to be in crop mode to fix that.
Silly me.

Here's the h.264 equivalent if you are at all interested.

Chmee, here is an issue I have encountered with my RAW video. Looks to be aliasing? Note: other shots do not see this.
Details:
50d
Lexar 1000x (new)
1568x882
Processed individually
Running CDNG version 1.4.9.7
Directly imported into Premier

I'm on a PC. Any script for that?

Sensor Looks clean, but could it be something that can't be seen?
Edit: I have cleaned it with a little sensor cleaning kit as well.

General Help Q&A / 5d mk ii issues
April 16, 2014, 05:41:44 AM
Disclaimer: In no way do I think this is directly related to Magic Lantern running on my mk ii, but because of the immense field of experts I am posing this question:
What is going on with my camera? Recently I have noticed this black spot on my camera while taking video. Any ideas for how to fix it?

Just some minor noise ;)

@szDE
If you are an adobe guy the new LR plugin works really well.

I have been using Dual_ISO for a while and have never had any issues.

It is true that it may have been originally designed to record video, but why would it have a 3:2 LV screen? Just have cinematographers deal with it? I know A1ex ported ML so maybe he could shed light on the subject.

And yes that is a good educated guess.

@audionut
So you are saying they added the 30 minute, software imposed, to a firmware that was never intended to shoot video? But I agree with you that it is a software difference because that is much cheaper.
Thanks

First of all, I apologize if this question has already been asked in the forum, but I have been searching around and not found it.

How does the 50d record h.264 if it does not come with the hardware implemented in the other canon cameras? I, of course, am referring to the ominous "chipset" that Magic Lantern has not been able to access.

Why does the 30 minute limit exist on the 50d? It seems like it would not be included in the original firmware because the 50d didn't have any video capabilities before this miracle known as Magic Lantern came around.

Thanks,
Painya

This is not to the ML Gurus.
To the beginners!
Here is a quick user friendly guide-
Open LR
File>Plugin manager
Click on the folder
Restart LR
Right click on your image
Export>ML>Cr2_hdr (or whatever it is)
Enjoy!
