Push menu button to get white bottom noise instead  8).
Thanks Danne! that works. I'm not sure which I prefer, the loop although distracting has its charm  :P

It's working in my EOS M. Fantastic! It's a great leap forward to facilitate framing in 2.5k

Right now in the bottom part of the image I see a noisy pattern or a fragment of the last image captured with a 1 sec or less looped video, strange effect  :o

Well I'll be here, available for testing :D

This is Incredible! What you've already achieved is a huge leap from the preview possible with Canon's 5x crop.
2.5K mode will be the real king and the EOS M will reach its perfection after this.
Thanks @theBilalFakhouri

I tested the Sandisk Extreme Pro 128GB 170MB/s and give me these results in play mode on 192MHz:

In real escenario I can get stable 62MB/s that means Continuous 2320x1254 14bit (1.85:1) in 2.5K Mode!
When it seems that the EOSM has reached the abyss of the possible, you do it again, thanks Danne!

@guerchi. Could you test this version? It goes straight into 192Mhz. I tweaked it a little. Maybe works better:
https://bitbucket.org/Dannephoto/raw2mlv/downloads/crop_rec_4k_mlv_snd_raw_only_2020Jul06.EOSM202_ver_1.zip

I run these numbers:
static uint32_t uhs_regs[]     = { 0xC0400600, 0xC0400604,/*C0400608, C040060C*/0xC040060C, 0xC0400614, 0xC0400618, 0xC0400624, 0xC0400628, 0xC040061C, 0xC0400620 };   /* register addresses */
static uint32_t sdr_192MHz[]   = {        0x8,        0x3,                             0x4, 0x1D000301,        0x0,      0x201,      0x201,      0x100,        0x4 };

@Danne, thanks! i just tested but  I get almost the same results:

I will try with the 170MB/s card.

Sandisk Extreme Pro 128GB 95MB/s

Low level format in camera (Menu button -> First tool icon -> Format card -> tick in low level format and press OK)

A few tests runs of the benchmark as well as taking a picture, so card was not totally empty when I run the below benchmarks.

Modules tab -> Bench.mo ON -> Restart -> Debug tab -> sd overclock -> 160MHz -> Restart -> Debug tab ->  Benchmarks -> Card Benchmarks -> Quick R/W benchmark (1 min) -> press play

Edit: 240MHz gave around 20 MB/s and Global Draw Off made no difference.
I can't achieve those marks that you achieve, with the same Sandisk Extreme Pro 128GB 95MB/s
These are my numbers after low level formatting:

1280x1900, what ratio is that?
I also recommend using the 5k anamorphic rewired mode. A little less height but more stable.
With 1280x1900 resolution, the aspect ratio would be 2:1. To get this resolution, I set the ratio at 2:35:1 and the aspect ratio at 2:1.
In 14 bits it is not stable, but in 12 bits it is. And, after testing, I think I prefer to work in 12 bits rather than sacrifice some height.

Did You tested highlight detail with14 and 12bits ? I did multiple times and result shown similar amount of info in highs, not that much different.Tiny bit in shadow, if you call more visible black spots and noise a "detail in shadows".Difference between h264 and raw is amazing tho, like totally new camera and every lens shows its real character that i did not seen at all wehen filming in h264 , it was crushed by canons default contrast and gamma algos.
The difference is subtle but exists,Much smaller than the chasm between the poor canon H264 and ML RAW!
It is not that the bitdeph increases the dynamic range, I think ML has already extended it to the limits of the sensor.
But, the 14-bit RAW, has by definition more room to retrieve information in both highlights and shadows. Better Highlight Rolloff and less noise in the shadows. I don't know if it's visible on the youtub compression, maybe it can be seen in the first shots where there is very hard sun light :https://youtu.be/dRw3Nir9awE
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRw3Nir9awE

Anyway 5k Anamorphics, in 1280x1900, 14 bits works, but it is unstable,  flirting with the limits of SD card writing speed.

On the other hand, ingenious idea to be able to access the info function from the Canon menu button, Thanks once again Danne!

Any proof for this? Been hesitated at buying Extreme Pro 170 MB/s over the ever so popular 95 MB/s regardless of the latter (95 MB/s) costing more than the higher write speeds (170 MB/s).

If this card is doable then I'll definitely go out and grab a bunch of Extreme Pro's in 170 MB/s just to be future-proofed and because they are cheaper online.

The reason why I'm asking is because we obviously know that the faster Extreme Pro 280 MB/s is actually slower for the EOSM and is unable to do continuous recording at all. However, this seems to be not the case for EP 170 MB/s, correct?  :o
Like Walter said, the 95MB/s version has more room to play near 57 MB/s. I had a couple of that for my BMPCC (the 170 MB/s version don't work on the pocket) and work perfect on my EOS M.
I just did a test with both cards recording in 5k anamorphic, ratio 2.35:1, aspect ratio 2:1, resolution 1280x1900, 14 BITS LOSLESS! at an average of 55 MB/s and both cards did a good job giving about 2 minutes of continuous recording with changing light environments between inside and outside. Maybe the 170 MB/s version showed the red camera warning more often, but both stopped at a similar place and time, and it seems that neither generated pink frames.
This makes me think that maybe in controlled light environments I can go to 5k anamorphic in 14 bits! That in MLV APP means you can raising the RAW white Level to the maximum and recover more data in the highlights or at least achieve a more pleasant Highlight Rolloff.

What exactly do you want to customize?
at first It would only be to see if it is possible when choosing the mv1080p MCM Rewire and 5k anamorphic presets, automatically change ratio, aspect ratio, resolution and bitdeph, to those of my preference.

I will see if I can go inside and understand what you mention.
Ideally I would try to include the possibility of saving the current configuration as a preset, but I guess that would not be easy.

Thank you!

Hello Danne and community, catching up with the latest modifications!
The possibility of switching between realtime and framing with the INFO button seemed to me incredibly useful. Being that framing is essential to think the framing, but with Kill Global draw, at the time of recording you has to become familiar with what should be framed in that view. It's a bit intricate, but it's the way to get the best out of EOS M at the moment.

On the other hand, is there a chance to easily customize the presets? and could these already include the ratio, resolution and bitdeph?
I know something about programming, but I don't remember anything about C.

After trying the possible configurations, the ones I use the most are:
- mv1080p MCM Rewire, in 14 bit, with aspect ratio in 4:3 and resolution 1736x1158, to capture the highest resolution and have that crop margin if the final video is in 16:9.
- 5k anamorphic, in 12 bit, with a ratio of 2.35:1, with aspect ratio 2:1 and resolution 1280x1900, to minimize the crop factor. And 12 bit always gave me much better results in the shadows than 10 bit.
Both modes give me continuous recording and free of pink frames! I use the popular sandisk extreme pro 170MB/s.

Of course, the way it's now, the EOS M has already become an incredible tool for experimenting in cinemetography.
Thank you very much for all your work.

I just picked up the Viltrox booster and realised I cant adjust aperture as easily as I expected.
the button with the expo icon, the right of the wheel, toggle between shutter and aperture, At least in my camera, and with blocking the shutter speed change from the ML menu, you can't go wrong!

Today I had a shooting day with the eos M. Good shots in 5k anamorphic to film semi blind. Pink frames free! It seems we left them behind! Thanks Danne.

Thanks for feedback.
Resolution: 1280x1866
How´s that resolution working? Not 2.39:1 any more.
Yes, you are right.
I used 4k Anamorphic rewired. Without selecting any ratio in Crop Mode, bitdepth always 12bit, and I found that the setting to get the highest possible height was with the aspect ratio in 2:1 and the resolution in 1280x1820.I thing this result in a aspect ratio between 2.20:1 y 2:1. This mode turned out to be incredibly stable, I'm filming with it a low budget video clip.

Now with this latest version, thanks to cinema 2.39:1 script, I realized that I have a 5k Anamorphic preview if I select the ratio at 2:39 in Crop menu. And by selecting the same configuration as before in Raw video menu I get that resolution 1280x1866. I gain 46 pixels in height :) and so far it is also very stable.

@guerchi. It actually works as before but while pressing halfshutter it enables kill global draw. I just wanted to know if it gives some more headroom.
Also automated is kill global draw in high speed modes. 48fps really need kill global draw on.
Thanks Danne!
I tried the latest version (fresh install) and at the beginning it was frozen 3 times while testing, having to take out the battery. But then I could record without problems and best of all without pink frames. I only have a preview in 5k Anamorphic when in the crop menu the ratio is 2:39. I run the cinema 2.39 script for that.
The optimal configuration for me at this moment is:
5k anamorphic
bitdeph: 12 Bit
Crop Mode/ratio: 2.39
Resolution: 1280x1866
Aspect Ratio: 2:1
Kill global draw always on

The quality in this mode is amazing and I am pleased with the aspect ratio, I don't miss 16:9 at all.

The difficult thing is to imagine the framing with only the top half. I am training in that by filming some neck with a little air up. :) But yes, this limitation is the only one that prevents the use for professional projects. Would an external montior help somehow? or not and could it be worse to keep pink frames away?

The Iso Climb function is very useful! can you only go up right?

And the focus aid is very useful too, I am not using it in this mode because I use the halfshutter to alternate between real-time and framing preview.

Thank you very much for all your work

- Enabling kill global draw when pushing halfshutter and using framing preview while recording. Hopefully helps a little when it comes to corrupted frames

This feature is automated and will be used whenever framing preview mode is enabled. @ricardopt might wanna try anamorphic modes with this version.

If I understood correctly, with this version, can I, even with kill global draw on, see the framing preview by pressing halfshutter while recording? That sounds really good.
I was still using the Nightly.2019.Jul05.EOSM202 version
Because I use the 4k Anamorphic Rewired mode a lot and with the halfshutter I can have a Framing preview. And when shooting with kill global draw, I avoid the pink frames and I have real time preview to be able to focus, although I have to imagine the bottom part of the frame. In addition, that firmware version gave me a lot of stability with those modes.
Here is a video testing the modes and their versatility:

Amazing how it handles noise at ISO 800. No noise reduction was applied.
All tested modes are the most stable I have found.
The best in my opinion considering: crop factor, resolution, alaising, stability, is by far 4k ANAMORPHICS REWIRED

mv1080p 1736x976 46 / 48fps MODE is the only one that gave me 2 pink frames between all the shots.

The vignette is caused by the Crop lens added to the Viltrox speedbooster: Tamron 17-50mm F / 2.8

Anyone seen this before? I am getting it randomly in 2.5k mode, both in day and night shots. Its a straight green / red line that runs vertically on the right side of the video. Its always at the same spot.
Yes, I also obtained similar (not the same) vertical lines in that mode, randomly in night shots. If the shot was long enough it tended to slowly disappear completely, I did not experience the problem again with Danne's latest versions, but I did not do many night shots lately in that mode either.

1280x1700? Not a resolution I´m familiar with. Are you using the ratios presets?
Good Question  :o I'm not sure how I get to that resolution. From what I see, it is the resolution of option 2.20 when it is 2.35 in crop mode. I converted  that videos(4 videos of one minute approx.) And there is not a single pink frame! This is one still of these shots in 800ISO 12bits:

By the way. Greenish tone is only visible in liveview preview not on the recorded footage.
I did not see it in the liveview, which only becomes a bit magenta. I noticed it from the MLV APP:
http://www.guerweb.com/pics/M06-1738_frame_62.png
Anyway, it seems that i could shoot in 12bits even more stable than in 10bits.
Today I test a video in aspect ratio 2.1 (with aspect ratio OFF in crop mode), 12bit,  1280x1820 res, 1:12 duration, without corrupted frames too! I do not know what you did with your latest version but it seems to have done wonders about the pink frames.

The only problem in this mode is the preview,  framing is very slow and realtime, I can deal with the narrow, but there is a significant cut in the frame, only shows the top part.
This is what it captures:
http://www.guerweb.com/pics/M08-2111_frame_285.png
and this is what I see:
http://www.guerweb.com/pics/IMG_20190707_205900.jpg

There is also a magenta bar in the middle that becomes notorious especially in the shadows that I don't know if it is possible to draw from the MLV App:
http://www.guerweb.com/pics/M09-0013_frame_736.png

Thanks Danne for answering and for all the work you are doing, let me know if you need to test more options. Despite these details, it is incredible what this little camera is already capable of.

I am using the version of July 5 without problems. I did not do timelapse, I mostly use mv1080p MCM rewire and 4k Anamorphic Rewired modes. In 10bit 2.35 1280x1700 it is quite stable, although it gave me a couple of pink frames in a 2 minute clip. I'm using a Sandisk Extrem PRO 128gb 95Mb/s. I also think that due to the 10bit there is a greenish tone with grain in the shadows near the black.
I did another test yesterday of 4k anamorphic rewire in 12 bit, iso 800. Today I will convert to see if there are pink frames. I chose this mode because in addition  to get a better resolution and less alaising than in mv1080p, note to my surprise that it responds a much much better in noise levels with high ISO, I will try to upload a comparison later.

On the other hand it is amazing the option of 3x crop Toggle! I found myself using it a lot. With the 24-70 it is like having the 70-200 mounted at the same time with the plus that the image has less artifacts in the 3x Crop mode. Beautiful.
Very grateful to Danne, Jip Hop, and all that make it possible. :)

Hello everyone here I am a silent user of ML since its inception. I remember talking to Alex in a videoconference about the possibility of cropping the sensor center to avoid alaising. The days of the t2i were relegated when I bought a bmpcc, camera with which I have been working for 6 years. I have closely followed the evolution of the EOS M, here and on YouTube, amazed at the results you have achieved. I got one of these little giants, and I was doing several tests. The first thing that surprised me is the ease with a few basic adjustments to get results in colorimetry that would take me a lot more work in the Blackmagic!
The MCM Rewire mode is beautiful to use, but I can not avoid the alaising even with old manual lenses.
The 2.5K CROP and 4k Anamorphic Rewire modes are simply incredible. For specific cases such as macros or teles, having the option of 5x Crop is great.
For the rest of the cases I was trying to get shots, free of pink frames in the 4k anamorphic rewire mode. Try all possible combinations.
The most stable mode is still with the 2.35 aspect ratio, I got a 2 minute clip with 0 pink frames indoors with few lights and one outside in the middle of the day with trees and sun of 4 minutes 13 seconds with only 6 pink frames.
The settings were:
12bit Losless
GD Kill ON
1280x1632
in a Sandisk Extreme Pro 95 MB / s
with the version crop_rec_4k_mlv_snd_isogain_1x3_presets_2019Jun20.EOSM202

I just wanted to share my experience, and thank you for this incredible work. I will certainly use this camera for some future project.
I could upload later a test of what I was seeing about the behavior of these unwanted guests, the pink frames if you think it could be of some help.
Greetings to all.
