Yo!

This is little suicidal for an arm firmware person who already has 2 projects ongoing, but...today I had to buy a 60D for my other job to insure ML support, but I want WiFi support in smaller-sensor-ville...so, point me to the dev section to set up a dev environment...I'll pick up a 70D over the weekend.

I'd spend the evening researching this but I have an early call, and I need to cut to the chase.

Thanks all!  Now where did I put that old disassembler I wrote...

from having the 60d and going to the 70d is awesome.
such a better camera all around.
I too try to offer support for ML (and specifically the 70d) but don't seem to be able to (easily) locate the page(s) or how to help out.

is there a (simple) place or location where there is a list of people to contact and work with towards helping ML (even if its the man pages)?

Share Your Photos / Re: Outer Space with the help of ML

very well done !

    thanks for the replies.
next request, while in this mode, could there be an option or submenu  to :
-prevent the camera from sleeping (aside from the main menu-  just for this option to be selected)
-auto-dim the live view (for extended sessions)

i know those things are in the canon and ML as a setting, but imo the motion detect feature could bring it all together in one sub menu,

on my 3rd attempt i got this image (which is also clickable to fuller sizes in a new tab)

my 1st attempts failed due to being in the city.
-take a black photo to be able to remove most noise later (use a lens cap for a single shot)
-tripod
-low f-stop (mine above is 3.5)
-hi iso  (above = 1600)
- 18mm lens
-30second exposure from a 2 second delay (i had no Magic Lantern at the time, and no intervelometer either)
point there is to never actually touch your camera...as it will shake.

canon 60d, no, mode off, size is 5184 x 3456, taken July 28th 2013 and is 21.9mb.

i did have to edit my truck wheel arches darker and i use a blue flashlight (for hunting and tracking blood) for the tint inside the cabin... the white light is from a bigger flashlight...

hope that helps

Feature Requests / Re: Kill help menu
September 07, 2013, 01:35:12 AM
agreed...
and including the debug section to a point- .at least on the "don't click me!" (i can sse its usable for devs, but not stable releases)
but
i use the battery, shutter count, and show tasks (kinda like the 'top' command).

i recently tried the screenshot after 10sec, but all that did was beep quietly, and not (afaik) take a ss of my view.

also, agree on the help files, (which i would volunteer to help write too), as the info button does work (on my 60d, it brings up the dedicatd or highlighted item selected to a new screen) but then continues with all the man-pages in order.... i think that is good, but also could be better if it would scroll automatically after the initial page has been read, (as i don't like pushing the buttons on the 60d :( ... thats just me though

User Introduction / Re: Can't wait to hack my new 70D!
September 07, 2013, 01:23:45 AM
hello.

.. afaik canon doesn't acknowledge ML as a contributor, and haven't replied to any emails or even sought out the knowledge base for their own improvements (which are obvious).

what im seeing is new life being brought into old(er) technology (as the 50d) and reducing the market for canons new line(s) or products (which is where they make their $)... so, thinking its like the PS3's initial release architecture, being able to run linux, and be turned into a mythbox... you'd think Sony would've been all happy and release pre-installed versions of a new(er) ps3 with mythbox already rolling, but instead, sony went backwards (in terms of usefullness to humankind), and created new rules, and o.s.'s and even changed the original users rights agreement making it 'illegal" to alter its original os.... to now, the newest ps3's won't even play ps1 games any longer, as the original ps3's still can.. being the higher price for a really old ps3...which is just more valuable b/c it wasn't locked down....

so, my long winded point here is that Canon is more focused on you buying new cameras, and keeping it simple, and stable.

and what i really don't understand, is after google released the g1, which was rootable, (i still have one, and it still works even w/out a sim card (over wi-fi)), the andriod cell phones are the best on the planet (b/c now i have a 'new' windows phone, which seriously sucks, and is half the phone my g1 is (albeit the win phone is faster with 4g).    but now im just ranting.

hope you get ML for your 70d soon...b/c from my exp. in 3 days of use (on a 60d), i am more than impressed...
the motion detect
the audio remote shoot
the intervelometer
the audio
the rack focus
the powersave modes in liveview... i just cannot even explain how happy i am to have installed ML.

and, if Canon does wake up to its power, and work with ML, and maybe even support ML to develop software and features for new cameras, then they would be like what google did for cell phones with the andriod... and make the world a much better place for camera owners.... they could even release updates for all their standard firmwares....but this might change their warranty and muddle things up (especially if the warranty is over).
i am (was) a Nikon owner too, and if there was ML for nikon, i would never have moved to canon... but now, after i saw the power of ML, i will never go back to nikon...so, anyways...
welcome to the forum.

i used the motion detect feature with great success, however, why is it only allowed in liveview ?
#10
 thanks.
can we use extreme shutter speeds ?
or, can you explain shutter speeds, afaik with 60fps, i would setup the shutter at 120, and thats it.

so, i need more help with the understanding of shutter speed and fps, like a graph...as the only math equation was to double the ss..

also, any videos explaining this ?

heres a video dedicated to shooting video in ML over RAW and goes into purpose, and things to avoid in shooting to reduce ghosting. with nice examples.

 60d w/an 8gb, a 16gb San Disk Ultra class 10, and a transcend 64gb class 10 too

i want to video wheel spin, and tires smoking, but also be able to make them go to slow motion on video, and don't know the best, cleanest way to accomplish this.

i know the transcend card has errors when i try to video in 60fps, but really, am new, and don't understand the slow motion settings (or what to change, or set).

any help please ?

ps. yes, i youtubed it, but no-one goes into settings, (esp in ML).
thanks in advance.

General Chat / Re: SD to CF adapter for video
September 05, 2013, 08:15:55 PM
pretty much what pileot says, but im adding a bit..

i had a 30d, and currently have a 50d and used the cf-card adapter for sd(xc) class 10 cards.
i haven't had any issues with pictures,
but, even in my 60d (which takes sd cards straight) i have an issue with Transcend cards (sdxc 64gb class 10) that will start a video, but cannot do it in upper HD settings, (60fps), and i get errors...

it works for pictures just fine, and even high speed fast rate, but i would recomend a name brand ultra or PRO series (like my sandisk) type....(which are only 16gb, but still class 10, and not one issue yet)...

also, the cf-card adapters are in versions now...
i have a version 3, and a version 4..... both work perfectly.

hope that helps

i thought that Canon's O.S. is an easy task to undertake, like the PS3 (cough---was), and the g1 phone (original android that could be rooted)..and basically any PC... with specs that are open.

as Nikon, and Olympus keep all their hardware specs under tight security, and would have to share all that info, has a part to play as well.

just random memories of reading about this 6 months ago.   don't quote me.

General Chat / Re: Sharper video, REAL cinematic look?
September 05, 2013, 08:01:30 PM
correct me if im wrong,
but i get what your saying, and i want to make cleaner movies/videos also.. i thought people were just using the 60fps with 120shutterspeed.

and if not, how do we get what he's talking about ?  (if i may include detailed settings, as im a newb, and have a slight grasp on video)
#16
adding that my SanDisk cards (ultra) have no issues, but my Transcend card does...

whats crazy is that it also has errors just recording video on the Canon 60d, but it works fine in a Nikon d3100....with the same settings.

now with ML on the 60d, it has the same issues, but not the sandisk ones...so, my guess is it may be a combination of transcend and the card reader.

either way, im only buying the high(er) quality ones from now on....
....note....i will keep the transcends simply as a backup, as it does still work fine in picture mode(s).

hope that helps....

and yes, i noticed in youtube, u found the issue....im just adding info

General Chat / Re: What camera are you running ML on?
September 05, 2013, 07:45:58 PM
I has the 50d and a 60d
recently (this morning) installed on the 60d with success !

but video from a Transcend 64gb card has issues, while all the SanDisk ones are ok (16gb)...
both are class 10, so i just think transcend cards must not be as good.

also, the Sandisk ones are ultra type...if that helps anyone.

now, just getting some seat time with all of it.

General Help Q&A / 60d with 64gb card
September 05, 2013, 04:03:33 PM
Just got ML on with an 8gb and a 16gb card successfully.
however, i read link on the home page and wonder how to "Allow passing the device/file on the script command line."

reading that page, slightly loses me... i know a little cli, but not so much to understand all that.

so my question is...
can/ will i be able to use a 64gb card w/my 60d running ML ?

thanks for any help in advance

General Help Q&A / Re: 60d installation blues
July 05, 2013, 12:59:53 PM
ok
thanks.
this reminds me of when i dual booted win98 with redhat 6.1 and windows couldn't be in a partition (using the term) behind redhat...it had to be primary...

either way, i only have a 2GB spare card, sort of glossed over that part about 32GB being the limit
thanks again for the support.
i did read the 'read me' and .pdf (re-reading that now), and watched a few videos.

by the way.
is there a way to partition the sdxc card to make a / and a /boot partition, also creating a /home or other directory for files ?
this might solve the 64GB limit.

you did mean GB and not MB right ?

General Help Q&A / 60d installation blues
July 05, 2013, 11:28:13 AM
updated firmware to 1.1.1
extracted the latest release
transferred all files over to the root of the sdxc (64GB) card

upon update, the d60 reports "update file cannot be found, please check the memory card and reload the battery and try again"

which stays on until i pull the battery.

the 2nd attempt, i left out the other .firs, and only included the -
-ML folder
-60D-111.fir
-autoexec.bin

which had the same outcome report as the 1st time.

any help is appreciated
thanks

im from the pacific north west (seattle, WA.), and just recently got into photography (mostly cars), and very recently (like last week) got my 1st canon dslr 50d.  8)

hope to make some friends, and learn all there is to learn with ml.
