hmmmm I havent done this in a while, so much more information to go through, doing my head in :P

Time is not so much an issue for me as i would rather best quality over time.

I often do a lot of effects and am trying to find the best way to get that to work in a workflow that will keep my work looking A+.

like my latest video being this, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ObrWrL23mQU I am rather heavy on effects in some videos....

I also definitely want to grade in resolve as that is my weapon of choice.. So it seems like the best way to go would be....Convert to Cdng , then debayer in acr? then strait into premiere then export xml and grade in resolve, export dnxhd 444 then come back to premiere and start adding effects?....

Been trying to figure this out for a while, I use resolve, but am I missing out on quality because I use resolve? Should I be using ACR... I thought resolve was better but lots of people still using ACR. I am after the best quality and dont want to find out i am loosing quality because I am not doing the right thing.

Import to davinci, export proxies, edit your clips in premiere, export xml, replace clips in davinci, export dnxhd 444 single files back to premiere, then noise reduce, stabilize shots and sharpen what ever you wana do, then export as dnxhd444 again, import and detect clips. separate into separate clips then grade...then export again as 444 if you want to do titles etc . 444 exports so quickly it doesnt bother me..

Hey dude, looks really nice! I pretty much only shoot in clubs. Though getting my raw without banding and artifacts is becoming hard. What are you exporting out to get your footage? Looks really nice, I see some film convert in there too.  Shot this one the other day., https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-p-0x3JQeYQ exported the whole thing out in DNxHD to try and kill the artifacts. didnt seem to work too well but the quality definitely held a lot better.

Is there a way to get rid of vertical noise with this app? I dont get vertical noise in raw2dng but I do in raw2cdng

did you really find it better? I was researching this all last week and couldnt get anything hugely better. I did this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-p-0x3JQeYQ&feature=youtu.be in DNxHD 175mbs and it hasnt had too much of a benefit to be honest.

I recorded this on the weekend, bars very evident, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-p-0x3JQeYQ&feature=youtu.be

ill grab a screen shot in a sec, using MLV raw, so i am using raw2cdng

Awesome work!! this got me using magic lantern raw again, did some test's on the weekend as I mainly shoot concerts for artist around the place, sad thing is night time footage always gets banding so easily in really dark environments with youtube//vimeo compression.

so i planned on battling this with uploading a DNxHD version, it kind of worked but not severely...do you mind sharing your settings for upload to vimeo // youtube to keep quality :)
#37
Sorry, I didn't understand that last bit :)

This is my first proper raw video, was just playing around, proper video will come later.

Bit of a test, seeing how exporting in different codecs can effect youtubes 360 quality and 1080 total output. Though I am shooting at night time so... artifacts are always an issue.. so i am seeing if I can minimize it and make it look a lot better than it should... Not sure if it worked. Anyway IGNORE AUDIO, THIS IS JUST ROUGH CUTS + A TEST

If you want to see my other stuff, (all club stuff really... but touring with some of the biggest artist) you can see it at www.youtube.com/tnlvsnmedia <---that is what my normal 360 looks like.

DO you think this 360 looks better than normal? I am not sure... considering the file was 679MB for 33 seconds.. I am not sure if it is worth it... ANYWAY..

Hey guys, Using 1.4.9.6, I have been encoding with 16bit and 1.0000 gamma, i did some test of encoding with and without 1.0 gamma and it seemed the same, not sure what benefit I am getting from that..

Also when I export as 12bt LOG for resolve, all my files come out pure white, but 16bit linear works perfect. I thought with resolve I am meant to be exporting them as LOG files for my lut's to work but doesnt seem to be working :) (sorry noob post but have searched online for an hour or so and can't find a solution)

I am using in camera iso controls,

Nightly version V2.3NEXT.2014Jan17.5D3113

just shooting at 1920 1080 and no crop. Just 1x. I shot a bunch of footage all weekend and same result. hmm I dont see this in anyone elses footage.

So i am thinking maybe its the fact I am not using the magic lantern ISO, I thought the issues with using mulitples of 160 in ISO was fixed with the 5dmkIII and was only a 5dmkII issue. maybe I am wrong? :)

Just thought I'd put it out there... Why am I getting such bad banding...

https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/t31.0-8/1960927_492140620891407_945996886_o.jpg

Is it just my camera orr whats the deal.. Evident black noise bands consistently down my camera.

I have looked for a solve for this and can't find one. I don't often post as I just lurk. But this is really annoying me as davinci 9 worked fine.. now 10 is giving me these issues, says "change timeline settings?" then no matter what I click after that it exits. Any solve for this?
#43
ok so I posted yesterday with no demo, but I graded a few shots last night but to be honest.. not sure what the point was because it ends up look pretty much the same because it is so noisy I have to kill the blacks to hide it.... I shot at 4000iso and that would normally be fine... maybe the trick is to not worry about iso noise and shoot higher then bring the highlights down later.. I duno...it just isn't helping me.

Plus..why are you guys converting your footage after you have your tiff files...the tiff files are very editable..

#44
Hey mate,
Thanks for the reply, I am using a 5dmkIII, it handles the blacks really well normally,
there is a lot of darkness, but nothing it can't handle...

Maybe what I am getting is normal for raw... but my h264 files look great

for instance,

Ok! so firstly, I went out last night and shot a bunch of raw footage at some clubs ect. which I do all the time, thought i would give it a go in a way no one else has yet.

So I got home, I batched them all with RAWanizer and I get them into lightroom and they are really noisy and grainy, way way way more than what I would be getting at 4000 in h264. Am I missing something? It is making my footage look terrible.

my second question is in regards to converting the tiff sequences... why? are you not loosing quality every time you do that and adding time? why not just edit and export with the tiff sequences?

Thanks for your time.
Regards, Zac Gordon.
