Here's a very quick RAW video test. I used the Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 for the first shot and the 'nifty fifty' for the other shots.

Shot at 1726x736, DNG's edited in ACR and the rest done in Premiere Pro CC.

Not perfect but I'm fairly happy with the outcome!

Damn that's nice.

What do you have the Canon menus set to? If you bring the video resolution to 720 and disable RAW in the image res options it will improve your frame count.

Just installed latest lightroom 5.2 RC, but it's all the same crap.
WTF? How you people open silent dng's?

I use ACR (opens with PS), or some folks use ufraw. It's in the beginning of the thread.

I can put it from a raw file to a dng
but the DNG file is resolution 0x0
so CAMERA RAW in after effects can't open it. Can somebody help me out?
Thanks

Maybe try here - http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=5654.0

What are you using to convert the RAW file?

You can still load the modules; just turn off RAW video

i get almost 1000 frames in 1280x544 on my 60d, sandisk 95mbps, why dont u guys use this resolution more. No issues except a few pink pixels hardly noticeable.

Still havnt settled on a most effective workflow

I get something in that neighborhood - what do you have the canon video settings at?

Has this idea been shelved? It would be a great shooting option for the 60D if it can be made available.

Thanks

Cecil -

This is a great start - your enthusiasm is inspiring and very much appreciated. Thanks!

Sadly, I couldn't hack my way out of a paper bag...but I can certainly test. ;)

I want to help, but have to do only what I can in the time I can give it...sorry.

That's nothing to apologize for - thanks for even considering doing this. We get a little greedy with all these exciting new developments and are always looking for more and better.

If we can get the addresses we are looking for and it would help if I were to take on some leg work and comb through the ROMs, just let me know - I'll be glad to help.

See above!!

Actually, I was referring to the notion of using the USB interface as a supplement to the SD...should have been more specific, sorry.

Is this anything like a possibility?  ;D

And is there anything I can do to be helpful?
#18
I would welcome the extra 10Mb/s if you guys could manage it.

#19
Wouldn't that also lighten the load on the SD buffer, perhaps increasing the #of frames?  ;D

You cannot use usb because it is too slow

I could have sworn there was mention somewhere here of the theoretical possibility of the camera's USB interface reaching UHS-1 speeds...

Also - "USB 2.0: Released in April 2000. Added higher maximum signaling rate of 480 Mbit/s (effective throughput up to 35 MB/s or 280 Mbit/s)" - too slow? Unless of course the camera's interface is made to be incapable of such speeds.

And maybe, just maybe - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_On-The-Go

720p24 with SanDisk Extreme 45 MByte/s: Longer recordings do have dropped frames.
No such problem with SanDisk 95 MByte/s.

Ciao, Walter

Good point - if you can afford it, the Pro does have some advantages. I have noticed some slightly longer recording times with the Pro also.
#22
I wouldn't go cheaper. The Sandisk Extreme seems to be optimal.
#23
Has anyone thought about using the USB port in camera to hook up to an external SSD?

You would certainly need separate power for the drive, and an SSD that would provide sufficient write speed is affordable, but would it be possible to direct the camera to write to the hard drive through the USB interface rather than the SD card?

Does it soften up the stills? I got the latest build on my card what is the best resolution to shoot at for around 15 secs of video. I shot some lower Res ones last night were pretty noisy in upscaling. I need to get some day shots later in the week my schedule super hectic.

There are a few different combinations that will get you what you want, here are a couple I have noted:

1728x526@24 in ML (2.35:1), 1280x720@30 in Canon settings will give you around 400 frames,

1280x720@24 in ML (16:9), 1920x1080@24 in Canon settings gets you much the same...hope that helps.

I haven't seen too many other videos that were shot in something other than daylight; not that they aren't beautiful, but has anyone seen anything studio lit and shot?

Premiere takes 16 bit PSD.
