Perhaps anything can look like anything in post these days, but the BMPCC has always looked videoish to me in demo vids, while the canon videos look more 'natural' and cinematic.
I think one key takeaway for me is that resolution is not such a big deal when you get into the near-HD resolutions and above. THe most important thing is to get good images, and to avoid 'unnatural' sensor noise like banding and blocking

@660 re:50D

What resolutions & frame speeds did you shoot at? You did not get repeating frames or torn frames?  thanks

Hello 50D user here
1. Magenta frames. It shows up on 10,12 and 14 when using the available modified fw. I haven't tried to change the black levels with mlv_dump, assuming that's the way to do it

2. The first frame keeps showing up in the even frames. So it's like 0,1,0,3,0,5,0,7,0,9,

3. at 1856x*** I get full frames interspersed with that continuing first frame showing up in even frames, while if I go to 1920x**** I get torn frames  with most of the frame being the first frame repeating, while a small sliver is the properly sequenced frame

4. Grayscale preview seems to run fine when recording

5. fingers crossed that the bugs can be ironed out because recordings look amazing and have a smaller files size  8)

Am exporting with : mlv_dump --dng --no-fixcp --no-stripes

The R** files are in fact the spanned files once you hit that 4GB filesize limit.. I'm not sure why you're getting corruption though

@dogmydog did you find a solution? I hope to never encounter that.. it would suck!

Btw amazon had Toshiba Exceria 1066 32 gb cards for 44$ shipped the other day. I got one and it's getting about 78-82.1 MB/sec after warming up. Now 59$ though  :-X

I wish 2048 resolution option would be unlocked -  2.20:1 2048x930 for instance would be continuous on most cards; 2048x1080 could probably record for about 45 secs to 1 minute on a fast card

Bitrate issues aside, is there an issue with the camera that prevents 2048 ?

Bad news: nevermind I dont want to be banned

Is it possible to get 2k 2048 and higher recording for the 50D in a future release?
#10
For anybody interested, on my 50D I get around 70~71 MB/sec average with all the optimal settings applied , and it rarely ever dips into anything lower 69MB..
perhaps it doesn't jive well with the 50D's controller.

Seems to be a durable card though - I'm running it on a USB 3 reader via a USB 2.0 port, and it hasn't had any problems

Shoot at an optimal f-stop, and keep the ISO as low as possible.  Also make sure it's in focus.

Because of the large sensor size, lens quality doesn't play as much a factor as it would with smaller sensors, but obviously a zeiss or an equivalent HQ lens will give you the absolute best results.

Otherwise get a GH4, A7s or NX1 and shoot in 4k. They capture detail far beyond the 1080p on the 5DIII.

Thanks for the response - I can't find any thing about adjusting the write buffer - how do I do it?
???

I repartitioned using 'MB' alignment, via partition wizard, formatted it in the camera and am getting a slight increase in speed; ~74 to 75MB at 16/15k buffers

I just got a pixelflash brand card (32gb) and it's running at around 70MB/sec; I get around 360 frames/ 15 seconds at 1920x1080.. Am wondering if aligning the partition would boost the performance.. should've just gone with komputerbay

I think the 50D has always had framing issues in crop mode; not sure if that's fixable, but it would be nice.

What's the max resolution for crop mode now? Is 1920x1080 continuous doable?  I remember TL could do continuous a little bit above 1080p

FYI  to anybody interested: I just purchased a 32gig '1000x' (1066x???) off of  eBay for 49$$. I sent an offer and it was automatically accepted.

Amazon reviews paint it as being mostly reliable, and the one benchmark posted put max speed at 124MB/sec write, ~154MB/sec  read..

I Guess I'll find out soon enough

Can't find any info on these, here, but their 'supersport' line is listed as follows:

Hi all! I would like to say thank you to the developers, I really appreciate it.
I made this video mostly with 50d:

Wow that's some awesome footage.. the inter-cutting is nice as well

does the 50D run any cooler via a battery adapter?

RE: the VAF filter - it's just a prototype from mosiac? Can they improve it further?   I said on the video comments that the moire banding is reduced but present.. I would much prefer it all removed if possible.

The adapters on Ebay claim infinity focus. It ultimately depends on the  protusion of the rear element of whatever taking lens that you're using. They will vary

Well I started testing my cam and the komputerbay 32gb CF card got corrupted. It's on its way back for a refund..
I wasn't expecting these cards to be so fragile..  What card readers do you use?

I have multiple S16 lenses and they only barely cover the corners of a S16 frame.. a 2x range extender should be able to cover APS C though. Anyway crop mode would be exactly why i'd use them.. should be better suited for the smaller sensor window size than full frame lenses

????

5DIII:
6.25 microns times 1920 = 12mm
6.25 microns versus 1080 = 6.75mm

50D
1920 = 8.832mm
1080 =4.96mm

S16 lenses should cover 1080P ezly, based on the pixel pitches

I've thought about getting the PL mount adapter and trying it out as well, but it's a lot of money to experiment.. i guess i can try holding them into the cavity of my 50D

how does the x264 achieve 1080p? is it upsampling up from 1584x894?
