Tested on 5D mkII, mkIII and 7D.

The cards was tested to be compatible with magic lantern and canon firmware unlike the 1050x.

Benchmarks show similar results as 32 or 64 gig 1000x. The cameras seem to be the limiting factor.

Pity... was hoping for better performance on the 5D3.  Did you happen to test the card write speed outside of magic lantern using something like CrystalDiskMark?

5D2: no

5D3: here the latest one with some write performance gain
getting continuous 1920x1280 at 23.976 fps with CF only :)

Here are my test results using your latest compared to Alex's latest.  I ran each test 7 times and then removed the 2 outlier results...

  Buffer fill method: 0
  CF-only buffers:    3
  Memory hack:      On
  Small hacks:        On

1920 x 1080, 29.97 fps
----------------------------
  g3gg0   a1ex   g3gg0
    CF        CF     w/Span
   634     1417     3002     frames
   754     1446     3594
   633     1622     2563
   663     1638     3006
   781     1635     2603

1920 x 672, 48.00 fps
---------------------------
  g3gg0   a1ex   g3gg0
    CF        CF     w/Span
   391      751       550
   442      751       642
   392      755       634
   389      680       682
   439      745       684

For 29.97 fps and spanning enabled, I got double the frames of Alex's latest. Nice :).  But without spanning, I got double the frames using Alex's.
For 48.00 fps, Alex's latest always performed significantly better.

brilliant ! very crisp and clear imagery. Did you by any chance use Beauty Box for the skin ?  :)

I actually did need to soften the skin but only for one shot which needed a little extra tlc.  ;)

Wow mate!

This is the clearest video coming off the 5DM3 I have ever seen.

Thanks. When shooting now, it does feel a bit like a foggy lens filter has been removed from the front of the camera.  :)

Thank you... It's a great camera.

Here's a TV commercial I shot for Pride In Purity International, a non-profit organization near Las Vegas, Nevada. All footage was shot using Magic Lantern Raw on the 5D Mark III. I had performed quite a number of tests prior to this job, so I felt comfortable enough with the stability to give it a go on a real production.

More details about the shoot and gear used can be found at the Vimeo link... http://vimeo.com/71749184

g3gg0... I'm getting different results then the last couple of tests posted here.  For me it's slower for some reason.  Here are my results on 5D3 using your lastest raw_rec (with spanning support). Once the card was warmed up, I ran it 5 times for each test.

I updated my original test to use the optimized version of RawToDNG (raw2dng_shadow050.exe).  Aliasing is noticeably reduced now. Thanks Alex.

Ok... here's the new comparison using shadow100, shadow50, and shadow25.  I enabled the download link on Vimeo for those wanting a more accurate representation of the footage.

Shadow 50 has my vote as a set it and forget it default.

Shadow 100 is too noisy... Shadow 25 has too much aliasing for me to use the footage... Shadow 50 has minor aliasing but much less noise than Shadow 100.  On the other hand... Shadow 100 combined with a light pass of de-noising in post would work as well.

@MA Visuals: can you repeat your test with these 3 raw2dng's? Just post-process the same video with them.

Rendering now... will upload the results shortly.

For those wanting to see a test of the Dual ISO feature in use, I put together a video comparing normal raw video and video shot using the new Dual ISO feature.  More details and testing methods used can be found at the Vimeo link... http://vimeo.com/70459941.

Thanks for sharing such a cool video! :)

Thank you.  That or the parakeet needs therapy.  ;)

These videos make me so jealous of the 5d of yours. If I had the money the first thing I'd do is buy a 5d iii. That video is so sharp I could shave with it.

I think the lens in this case helped a lot... Canon 100mm L Macro.  It's a super sharp lens.

"Nature's Creatures" was shot using ML Raw. Includes macro shots further zoomed using 5x Crop mode.

Here's my video "Freedom", shot completely using ML Raw, often making use of the 5x Crop mode.

Maybe DARPA can...

Good idea... will send a feature request.  ;)

Next time, was thinking of trying mk11174's recommending 15 fps and 15 shutter.  Goal is for the most usable film footage, even if some post work is involved.  I'm not actually sure that's even possible given the rolling shutter CMOS sensor. Any other suggestions to help minimize rolling shutter effects as well as improve overall quality of lightning capture would be most welcome.

Posted a quick test using the new ML Bolt module.  Not perfect conditions or camera settings, but I have to say that it worked admirably!
