Hi! I have been using ML since 2010, I have shot several films in mlv format...
But now UHD is increasingly in demand. Is it possible to shoot UHD on Canon Mark 3? NOT RAW

This is is a paid lut bank. Visit official site http://www.cinelogdcp.com/ and forum thread http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=10151.0 about additional info. BTW I will try to record my whole roundtrip Resolve-AP and publish it.

I did a quick test with cdng (not log renders) and you are right - Resolve crash when I try import xml from AP. Only EDL I was able to import to Resolve. But content not linked. Only edit (cut) positions. Some problem with reel names. I will try tomorrow more detail test. BTW I recomend you to use Cinelog-C to render high quality log source and work with it, not cdng.

QuoteI imported files to resolve after setting "master project settings" "assist reel name.." etc.,. I exported dnxhd 36 for proxy (as usual) and in premiere I did offline editing and exported finalcutpro XML for resolve roundtrip. This time I did not get the "FCP translation result.." notepad along with the xml (unlike in previous project). When i imported the XML to resolve 11. Resolve could not link the timeline to media pool, also nothing is seen under "reel name" section in resolve. Roundtrip failed and i had to manually link files.

Am i doing something wrong? any new tutorial on this roundtrip?

I test new workflow with raw2cdng 1.6.5 and AP CC 2014 (Davinci->AP->Davinci) and all work correct for me. If this topic is of interest to someone I could write a short lesson about it.

But one question for @anandkamal - in Resolve after AP you edit cdng or you render some kind of Log?

Quotedid a fast test with your mlv. and it was media with audio. cant really help you.

Thankyou, chmee! I test this cdng+wav sequence in Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014 and it work correct! Video+Audio. Strange Resolve bug. But i find work well solution (in post 1) :)

No, the same thing... But now whole folder with cdng and wav view in Davinci as one file! This greate!

This is my small test file https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxDyTWKlBKcWemIzS2Z3aDVKU2s/view?usp=sharing Đ•here are no loud noises, but audible background noise.

Hello guys! I test newest raw2cdng version wich can link dng and wav in Davinci automatically. In Library i see, that my cdng have sound and i can play it. But, when i import cdng with sound into Media Pool - sound is off! In Edit panel i see empty audio track and no sound play. On export the same - empty audio track. My temp solution that i find - cut audio wav file from subfolder with cdng and import it separately in Media Pool. Next do Auto-Sync Audio Basec on Timecode (select cdng and wav in Media Pool and right mouse click on it). And sound on! Very strange...

Camera Canon 5D3 113 FW with ML 25April2014. I use raw2cdng 1.6.5 to make cdng.

Chmee,

tested the latest beta5. 42 clips totalling 8+ minutes.

In resolve when I use autosync based on timecode some wav files will link with the wrong video files.
This will be indicated by wavforms with wrong displays, showing blank spaces.

Aligning them manually and the wav files are ok.

Hmmm, I test autosinc today and all work OK...

Hello every one! Today I test Cinelog and RAW shot from 5D3 1.1.3 ML build 24April (2013 or 2014 say later)

I render with Data Level and no artifacts in highlites! All transcode OK! Even whith strong overblown arease! I use last input 3D LUT v 1.1 in Resolve.

Good job!!! Thanks guys!!

@artyg
please send me a short MLV example to [email protected]. actually i'm a bit confused because of the actual changes regarding the blacklevel. i didn't saw those problems with earlier ml-builds..

https://bitbucket.org/hudson/magic-lantern/pull-request/484/black-level-fix/diff

please @all
the actual ml-builds are quite new (especially regarding the blacklevel-things), some of them (1.2.3 for 5DIII) are bleeding edge. dont change your system if you want to work productive. if you need them, use an older build, something between ~feb09(mlv-audio) and ~apr27.. i am still testing my code with a 5DIII 1.1.3 build from ~apr20, because its workin' and stable. you are not bound to use the newest builds!

I downgrade my 5D3 firmware to 1.1.3 and install ML 24Apr. And pink highlites stay... Then I run beta4 in CDNG 12bit (not maximezed) mode and programm work correct! No pink. I test my old files, and they all convert correct! So, I think 1.2.3 firmware work correct too... But some strange things with 1.2.3 happen. Sometimes 5D3 does not turn on!.. I decided to stay in 1.1.3 - this firmware more stable. Thanks, chmee!

So, one bug i find. In 12bit maximized mode pink highlights appear... (post on bitbucket)

Hmmm... with bild magiclantern-Nightly.2014May07.5D3123 and raw2cdng 1.5beta3 pink come back...

Then i use MLVViewSharp http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=8447.0 to convert to DNG and no pink appeare... Strange

Hello, marekk! Can you tell more detail about your workflow - [Davinci Resolve -> Cinelog -> Arri Log-C -> Prores 4444]
I'm more interested in Cinelog -> Arri Log-C. What exactly are you doing in Resolve? Apply LUT? And how? Thank you!

Hello Chmee! I test beta3 crashes with big files. I shot files from 250 frames to 6000 (4 minutes with 25 fps) and all OK! But with 8 minutes (12000 frames) program crash :( One time on 2900 frame, and one time on 3900 frame... this is very strange, because 4 minutes shot with 6000 frames convert ok... Somebody test beta3 with big files 8 minutes and more.

For me The main difference is;

i can record 720p clips continiously using Raw with my 650d,

but i can not do that using Mlv.

But only for you :) 650d not powefull enough, or your card is not fast enough...

Can I ask you why did you choose the "roundtrip" so long?
Is possible to cut in davnici and export the clip to adobe premiere for final "makeup"?
I noticed when I import clip from adobe to davinci - I lost the effects applied in premiere... .

Hi, vovkinson (sorry for offtop - are you russia? :)) I use this "long" roundtrip, because this is the maximum quality and flexability trip... I make offline clip and edit it in Premiere, then I grade final edit in Resolve and then back for final edit/vfx compositing. I strongly advise you to read Alexis Van Hurkman - The Color Correction Handbook 2nd Edition. One of the first chapters cover this topic ;) Good luck.

Today will test magiclantern-Nightly.2014May03.5D3123

Today i update firmware to 1.2.3 and install this version magiclantern-Nightly.2014Apr24.5D3123

And all OK!!! a1ex the best!!!:) No pink or other strange things.

Full roundtrip from Chmee's raw2cdng 1.5.0.beta3 -> Davinci Resolve -> offline proxy -> Premiere CC -> aaf/edl to Davinci and back to Premiere.

Only one strange was happend. XML from Premiere don't conform right in Resolve..... Resolve sey's "the clip .... failed to link because the timecode extents do not match any clip in the Media Pool" But AAF and EDL work correct.

nightvision04 is absolutely right.  Set it to "Clip" "As Shot" "BMD Film".  I'm grading an hour of 5D2 raw footage without LUTs learning resolve lite as I go and it looks very filmic.   rec. 709 will show pink fringing and even more moire.  The BMD film setting is a vast improvement.

Where this settings must be set?

Here's the workflows I've tried both of them getting tripped up at the same point:

Both of these are CDNG to Resolve to AVID back to Resolve

1.  Use CDNG to make image sequences
2.  Import into resolve
3.  Export using either Avid AAF round trip or just using a regular export to DNX 36 8bit files.
4.  Edit in Avid
5.  Export AAF
6.  Open AAF in Resolve, un-clicking "auto import source clips" I have also tried clicking "ignore file extensions" and using EDL to go back to resolve and the same thing happens every time which is that it links to the first DNG in my "master" bin and uses that clip with all the cut points that are given.

The issue is not that it doesn't recognize the cut points, it's that it doesn't link back to the correct DNG files and nothing seems to remedy this including "reconform from bins."  I do hope this is my error and not an issue with the CDNG!  Sorry for making a ruckus!  It also seems that if others are having success with Premiere and FCP that it could be an avid issue.

No, it's not avid problem - i work with Premiere Pro CS6 and export xml and have the same problem.

iunknown,

artyg/zach915m,
Where exactly does it get tripped up?

workflow:
import all the files into resolve
export proxies
create timeline in premier, edit and export xml
import xml into resolve
deselecting "Automatically import source clips into media pool."

Make sure you save the original project in resolve so that all the original clips are in the media pool.

Can you show your screenshots of folders with original dng files and proxy files. And send your xml file? Becouse we do the same as you, but... strange things happen =(

Here my workflow screenshots

That works Chmee!!  This is awesome!  Here is the workflow:

http://www.hurlbutvisuals.com/blog/2013/04/blackmagic-camera-post-workflow/

HOW??? You work with RAW from Canon Mark? I try this, but at last step Resolve conform xml with wrong content. Cuts right. Please, tell, how?? Maybe some screenshots and xml? I'm trying to solve this problem for several days...

please just link an edl or xml-example. right now i have no time to test myself -
but could it be, your workflow with proxies is not right? are you sure, you're doing it right?

why should resolve know, that m00001.mov picturesequence has to be replaced with m0001.[].dng?
is it described in the edl/xml?

regards chmee

EDL https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BxDyTWKlBKcWd1k5ekNCOWJtTzA/edit?usp=sharing
XML https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BxDyTWKlBKcWcmlRbjYtOTA3M0E/edit?usp=sharing

So I wanted to ask - how proxy should be named, that they are properly conform in Resolve? Because proxy is a single video file (.mov or mp4) and original is dng sequence... I understand that Resolve don't now about it, but how do this?

v1.1.6 is out - its the first attempt to fix the edl/xml-Problem - changing filename-structure and inserting Reelname-Tag into header.

Hm.... I try with edl, xml and aaf, but have same result... no changes. What names should have proxy files? In my case:
Proxy - M0000001.mov
CDNG - M0000001.000000.dng
