Thanks for the info
Can you please explain your Pre-Grade method in afterEffect(do you mean your image filter choice)? Also I'm working on Mac so can you explain the Inspector Menu option, is that in the finder option of the file?
No it not a filter I just use ACR, hi-light recovery bring up shadow detail, lighten or darken the mids, play with the Primary Color etc..... basic raw image adjustment.
pre-grade to get a perfect Balance image within the HD color space (Rec709 with a d65 white point 16-235) where RGB are at equal level .
Then "burn in" the look, export to prores, edit and grade in fcpx etc... it can take a little time but in the end you will have a quicker and more enjoyable time editing.
The color space option is in Final Cut Pro X itself under the setting option tab in the Inspector window.

@sshern007 Glad to help you are on the right track  :)

The easy answer, have a look at Film Convert Pro it a plugin that can give you different looks with out having to know about advanced grading techniques.
The long answer is to learn about color space, from photo to film and all formats , and pay extra attention to the A.C.E.S. work flow
http://www.oscars.org/science-technology/council/projects/aces.html  ;)

When I use Film Convert Pro These are the setting I like to use :Camera Source "Red One", Film Stock "Fuji 8543" and adjust from there.

Because Direct Link uses Premiere's debayer settings for all file formats. That's why the SpeedGrade app as a copy of all of the Premiere Pro importer plugins and effects.
Read this, it will fix that green cast in SG. (Need to load a .look file with values for the colormatrix ) Its because the black level has been change for Cdng in Premiere Pro without any pink cast at 16bit Cdng

Turn extra hacks on and GD off when recording for a start and try again .
What the build date & CF card?
#1831
I disagree there sorry, it all how you expose the image . Alot of  people  under expose
To much , and a log space can help fix the screw up. Log is so over rated there is no magic pill
For raw video just good hard work in a grading session . So no quick fixes !

For bigger project I go to CDNG's to ACR with After Effect, (Pre-Grade) bring color to video legal color space(16-245) (high-light recover)
then export to 32bit float ProRes4444 which will yield a 12bit Mov, you will lost a little bandwidth but that's why to burn in your adjustment
with A.E. and 99% time that's all you really need (no scaling leave that to fcpx) , and then editing is a breeze in FCPX, I'm on 10.1.1 and I love it, one hand on the keyboard and the other on the mouse and away I go . But if the project is small ,lets say 10 to 15 or more minute then I would by-pass ACR and directly
import as a Cdng image sequence and make your Compound Clip then work for there, that when I use Film Convert Pro and use the "Red One "
For Camera source and FJ film stock emulation or just grade it normally .Try and keep the Cdng sequence to about 2000 frames per compound clip,
or unless you are on a New ProMac with dual GPU's (I wish).
Tiff are to big to work and unless you are scaling to 4K there no need to weigh down the system resources as there are 3X larger.
FYI If you go to your Info tab on the Inspector window on your Cdng files in the Setting view and you can override the default color-space  from
Adobe RGB(1998) to rec709, sRGB or (601 EBU (pal) & 601 170m smpte (ntcs) SD color space).
I find this is the most effective way when you are under time constraints and have no time for file ingest problems or long watch periods.
I need quick turn around times and there is nothing faster at this quality level, but I have hi-hopes for  Drastic's MediaReactor with a direct MLV plugin
for FCPX there are working on.

@ dariSSight , MLV is changing all the time I think there is going to be a v3.0 soonner or later, and hopefully with the return of 1880 included but I'm not holding my breath on that thou. I would use what you are conformable with, and if that's oct24th with out audio then use it.
I don't what people to stop trying the latest builds as there are some real interesting stuff now.
But for Paid Work there cannot be a second of doubt and ever thing has to be rock solid and for me I choose to use the feb16 NB(but really feb15)MLV+Audio
with rock solid hdmi support for evf or recorders. At close to full HD at 2:1 1872x936 with about only 7-9% scaling or non at all. If you don't need audio then the v1.0 raw from Oct24th is still superior specially in Crop Mode at 2K (2048x930)  or  1:1 at (1872x1014,1856x1004) 1.85:1 A.R.
Because I need HDMI & Audio with raw and 1872x936 2:1 fills my needs just right I use MLV & Crop modes Ok but at a lack of performance you are
limited to 2048x872 2.35:1 23.976p. continuous  with audio thou .
I'm booked to film a Total Green Screen Music Video  and I plan on Using the feb16 NB because I need hdmi recorder for backup  I Know I will not have a Problem on Set.
I always error on the side of caution. ;)

I got it up to 30 seconds using your settings. Maybe it is the limitations of mycard.
Reformat you card, and reinstall ML. If on a windows machine use the card reader and do a right click go to "tools"
and do a "Error-checking" if that Ok you can try 16kb allocation unit size instead of 32. I know on my 32GB 60MB/s Sandisk
I reformat to 16kb allocation unit size to get a faster stable write speed , I thinks 1600x800 (50MB/s write speed needed) or something like that.
After you reinstall start with a smaller size like 1600x800 23.976 or smaller until you get continuous then slowly increase the frame size,
plus play with you buffer fill rate. Usually 0 or 1 but 4 my also works.
Your card is faster so there must be a setting not right, in the canon menu I have my photos set to SRAW2 (2784x1856 5.2M) and no Jpegs.
But Yes you are limited that why its recommended to use a 1000x card, personal I have 2 Lexar 1000x 64GB, 32GB, continuous at
1872x936 (older build Feb 16 no longer available after that date) or 1856x928 on newer builds.
You only need 4 Modules to get Raw video with audio,   5D2_212.sym, file_man.mo, mlv_rec.mo, mlv_snd.mo.

I did a test with my 5D2 + Sandisk Extreme Pro 90MB/s 32GB, MLV/raw 1792x814 2.20:1 A.R. 23.976p + audio,  62.5MB/s buffer fill rate "0"
12,475 frames 8.6 minutes on full card. So with a 120MB/s Card you should get a little higher resolution .
But this is with Global Draw off when recording raw.
In fact if you what any length in raw with audio at large frame resolution leave GD off when recording raw.
For h264 I have 2.3xcbr with technicolor cinestyle Picture profile which give me 70 mb/s and with LandScape profile 83mb/s
You have limitation with that card,  recommend minimum is 1000x CF for stable Large frames resolution  raw recording on 5D2.

I was wondering if any one has come up-pound any issue's recording audio in Crop mode with 5D2 an HDMI recorder attached and recording ?

Here what happen to me, I'm recording the live-view with ninja recorder in crop mode. Being there no audio out the hdmi this is what puzzles me,
When I press the record button on 5D2 I was recording the Lv and recording crop mlv + Audio @ 44.1,  I had a external Mic attached to the ninja and for some reason the audio on the ninja recorder increased in speed , so I had to in fcpx add a pitch filter with about  (neg)-10% and slow it down on the timeline by the same amount.
Every thing was fine and in sync in the recorder until I pressed the set button to record raw in crop mode  then it just speeded up. There's no problem in 1:1 mode just in crop , but the wave file with the mlv was fine and in sync just the recorder had a problem. The Video was fine .

How high was the h264 bitrate?
We need detailed Camera Setting, there so many factors that can cause this .

Raw Video / Re: Choppy video on 5d mk11
April 18, 2014, 07:09:36 AM
did you shoot at 24 fps or 23.976 fps ? did you have FPS override enabled to exact?
Where you in Crop mode or 1:1 , if in Crop mode and you don't enable FPS override
you footage will be recorded at 30 FPS no matter what the frame rate is set to in the canon or
ML menu. If you are importing a jpeg image sequence (personal  I wouldn't, why loose all that color depth ,Jpeg 8bit use Tiff at 16bit)
just do a right click on the file "Modify Clip"-->Interpret Footage -->click on "Assume this frame rate:" set to 24p or 23.976
QuoteI have set my preferences in Premiere as import still as 1 sec/frame
do you mean 1/24th /frame ? if not that's you problem, if I understand your issue .
But a better workflow if you like Premiere Pro is to download the new raw2cdng converter and you can import Cdng's directly .
chmee wrote a very nice program link below
http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=5618.msg111806#msg111806
if you use the 16bit maximized option there is really not problems.

I import the new cdngs 16bit maximize to my Mac and they have a heavy  green over cast , but the 16bit liner look normal  in the mac preview.
Tried a direct import in SpeedGrade on the Mac and heavy green cast which I seem not be able to cleanup, but with dynamic link from Premiere Pro it look ok.
A.E. look ok either way but with a gamma shift up on the 16bit maximize, but in Apple Products - Motions, Compressor, FCPX the 16bit maximize file option Will not work as a Heavy Green Cast over the image. So in Apple products use "non 16bit maximize". Never tried the 12bit thou so may be better I will have to test that later.

Edit: 16bit maximize look Ok in Photoshop on the Mac.

Gave it a go again to see if I could get it work, still crashes but now when click on the batch window header bar it crashed right away with out any files.
Try it  for my desktop, My downloads folder & even tried from my 2nd SSD drive on the root in my laptop. Crashed when I click on the batch window header bar, but
then I tried it off my USB 3.0 4TB raid "0" box and it fired up loaded a file I could see the preview play the file just like you should but crashed when I tried to convert it.
The "outputPath":"D:\\New folder. So I inputted a unique name this time and it work, :o  "MLV 5D2" , So do you Need to input a name first of it will crash ? I guess so
I would have thought it would just use the file input name. The App & test file was on USB 3.0 drive in a root folder & output path was to the 2nd SSD drive on the root folder. Just run it from my 2nd SSD drive and ok now a long as you have a unique name in that field, but it will crash if there is now file in the batch window and you click on any thing on that side. Well at least it work just need to get a few bugs out.  :D

I think 4k is overrated far to much, its great to work with or to master to 1080p but in reality the cost to broadcast 4k content is still to expensive even on the internet
the bandwidth requirement's are very high. I like what the GH4 is possible of doing with the SDI module attachment. Now if Canon had a device like that
there would be on top again. For me only 3 thinks, 1080p Raw, 60 or 120 fps and proper intermediate codec like ProRes 4444.

Raw Video Postprocessing / Re: Easy way to upscale?
April 12, 2014, 07:25:08 PM
If you don't mind working with Tiff's , do your upscale in Photoshop you  will get the very
Best result this way . I use this workflow to upscale 2k Crop raw images to 4k with very little
Or no issue at all.

I love my Canon EF 24-70 f2.8L very sharp, specially in crop mode @24mm.
I have 50mm Sigma f1.4 very good lens I use this a lot very sharp @ f2.0
But my go to lens is Canon EF 100mm Macro I.S.f2.8L , outstading Image
My favorite lens hands down, plus I have a Canon EF 70-200 f2.8L
With 2x Extender . Crop mode is great with that 1200mm length , great for shooting the Moon .

Great Job  :) Now that's Raw at it's finest .

Had a lots of App Crashes, worked for about 10 file (loaded same file but change settings)
now it just crashes when I try to convert. Delete the old settings-file in user/[user]/appdata/roaming ->raw2cdng.settings.json
to get it to work after it crash, but now it just stop working, the preview work ok and the metadata was visible but no go.
Of what I did get to work I found Cdng 16bit maximized to work the best no pink, but very flat looking but editable.
12Bit maximized  worked also but with a gamma shift up and all high lights were pink and "delta pink high lights" didn't make any difference one way or another.
But it wasn't flat it had good contrast.
what's the differences between maximized and non and what doses "delta pink high lights" do ?
Note * it crashes on Raw & MLV. Deleted the .json file again and use 1.4.9 and back to normal for raw.
Windows 7 Ultimate , Toshiba i7 laptop 8GB Ram, SSD. the only error messages I could get are as follows:
"C:\Users\i7 Toshiba\AppData\Local\Temp\WERDA.tmp.WERInternalMetadata.xml
  C:\Users\i7 Toshiba\AppData\Local\Temp\WER3784.tmp.appcompat.txt
  C:\Users\i7 Toshiba\AppData\Local\Temp\WER3795.tmp.mdmp"

I do like the new look very nice job, the preview very fast. I though came to mind as I'm writing this, the preview stop working on the last 3 files
of MLV so I did not click to preview I just converted but then after a few more it stop working all together.
I also have dual video cards on my laptop (Intel HD400 & NvidiaGeforce GT 630M) Could this be a problem with debayering in preview ?
Good job! :)

change the black level with exiftool "type exiftool -BlackLevel=2048 *.dng
but I not sure what your black level should be on 5d3.
When I tried to change your sample I got errors ,so it didn't change it so you may have to edit the black level with a hex editor,
check the link below explains how to do it.
http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=6580.msg52480#msg52480
I would check a healthy dng with exiftool and compare them to see what the different is
type: exiftool(-k -a -u -g1 -w txt).exe that will export a txt doc.
There other on the form who can help farther.
