maybe we can fake a Version No. like 1.0.5 to cover 1.0.1(if someone has it..)
make the camera believe it is the next firmware so you can 'upgrade' it .....

Now that the RAW feature is capable of some short clip under lower res for me and i was wondering if i want to shoot a short film (no client, just for myself) what should i choose to use, the RAW or original 1080p mov? and what is the practical use of RAW? does the 14bit deserve the compensation for the lower res?

* Improved dot positions -- I had a few gaps here and there
* Better interpolation of defective pixels along edges -- applying a gradient-based algorithm now instead of plain, static averaging

The result is great but some dots still remains in the shadows but its good enough

What about those who can not afford to buy cameras worth a couple of thousands?
If it will work, it would boost the video quality of this people, so why not just give it a try? I consider myself as a beginner, and yes I maybe don't need RAW, but the Image is way more detailed and sharper, than the original files. So it would be wonderfull to have it.

By the way, if it will never work some people will keep trying. If you want to stop it, you should wish for it to be done



I hope most develeopers don't bother those guys, complaining about free gifts :/

quite difficult to choose from ML or the new 1.0.4 firmware, until the ml could work on 1.0.4!

It seems you have two kinds of distorted pixels: first the ones that show up in the center in light areas and second a lot more all over the image in dark areas. For the light ones, I manually picked the start and end coordinates of each "dot grid block" and stored them in my program to iterate over them. For the dark ones, I recorded a completely dark movie frame, pre-processed it a little bit (basically I applied a threshold to suppress noise) and got this one:



I extracted the coordinates of each non-black pixel with a little script and stored them in a text file. During the dot removal procedure I read this file and fix the dots at the stored locations. The coordinate file is here:

If you think it's useful I could easily create a combined file with the "light" and the "dark" coordinates. Could you integrate that with raw2dng?

And, as I said: so far I only have the data for 1280x720. Simply scaling them mathematically to other resolutions is unlikely to work well, because you would get rounding errors for non-integer scaling factors. And if you're just one pixel off with the scaled coordinate, the dot removal doesn't work anymore...

i set the bitrate to 3.0x and the MOV was 55mbps while the default 1.0x was 45mbps

-Fixed SD controller now writes at 110 MB/SEC
-Increased system memory, so we can have more fun
-Added a PRISM file so the NSA can view all your photo's
-USB host will allow you to attach a external HDD to your camera and record directly to that volume (at USB 3 speeds btw...)
-Inserting coffee beans into the housing will make the camera grind them, and make a nice espresso...

No 60D is a very different camera from the 650D/EOSM

im aware that the problems on 60D and the 650D are different. the color dots on the 60D are separate but what i see on my camera was an area of regularly arranged dots. so i id better spend my time on other features~

i've been following this thread for several days and im grateful to u guys for ur great work!

i heard of the RAW things of the 60D from a friend of mine, he said the 60D had the same problem of pinky dots on the image but soon u guys fixed it, what im thinking is, can 650D be fixed in the same way? are they similar?

im not asking or requesting u guys to do things, i know u have ur own schedule so im just saying.

You probably hit the card capacity or the file limit 4.29gb, I'd bet on the latter. Sad thing is I can't see any way of easily recovering that data. You have to watch your GB size with raw_rec. It's very early yet in its development.

But yes keep under that limit and you'll be fine.

i didn't go that far to 4 gig, just about 1gig or less,good news is that was just a testing video and nothing was important, but thank you all the same for your concern~

Write speed was estimated at 35.2MB/s. It labored around 33-36 and usually didn't spike any higher. I really wish we could max out the 50MB/s write speed, or even come close to 45... That would add a world of new resolution options.

However 1440 : 614 at 2.35:1  Is an acceptable option in my eyes. It's viewable angle isn't quite 2-perf Techniscope however it is still a tad larger than M4/3.

M4/3 2.35 -  17.30mm x 7.36mm
1440raw 2.35 - 18.24mm x 7.75mm
Techniscope 2.33 - 22.00mm x 9.47mm

my card speed is the same performance as your 95 on 650D, i tried your 1440*614 and there is no skipped frames too
but the recording may stop itself automatically and suddenly, not because of the buffer is full, the screen is off and the reflex is closed, i can here that click sound, could you understand what i mean? and when i dump the RAW file to the raw2dng.exe the cmd window flashed and showed me nothing, i mean the raw2dng couldn't process the suddenly-stopped raw file

I used a SanDisk Extreme Pro 95MB/s

Red and blue dots are part of the colorful apparition that I have been complaining about. They are burned into the image sadly, Nanomad is trying to clear these up. I have to use Color and Luminance noise reduction in photoshop which seriously degrades the detail of the image.

No frames skipped.

what about the writing speed while recording? i am using a Sandisk Extreme 45MB/s card and the writing speed is 34-35MB/s, under 1280*720 frames were skipped at about 300th frame then it keeps skipping, but if i use a 1280*692(1.85:1) then no frames were skipped

I had to compress it pretty heavily to get it to upload, but the ProRes 422 file is about 1 gig. I've put the ProRes file on Dropbox and it should be able to view later, I'll update this post with the link when finished.

I'm going to wait until we figure out whether or not the color apparition can be dealt with in camera before I do too much more with RAW video.

That one was great! i wonder what SDcard you used for this, and is there any frame skipped?
i have my own 650D tested but the res must be set to 1280*720 so that it will not skip frames too soon

another problem i have now is the strange red and blue dots on the picture as i posted before

Here's an early test. It's a 1600 x 540 3:1 (if memory serves) and sorry it got downsampled to 720p (I hate QuickTime presets). Ill have a more interesting full 1080p stream later tonight. Plus plenty of reference DNGs.

As a reference this is California sunrise at around 7:30am... Very bright but you can see the details both inside and outside.

Edit: I promise the next upload won't be as ugly.

that sequence seems fine despite the moire~~
looking forward to seeing your next one, IF the 650D can do a real 1080P RAW  that would be fantastic~

Hey guys, been testing Satriani's build and I have some notes...

2.35:1 1440 x 614 23.973fps recording with NO skipped frames at all...  That is, until I hit the 4.29 gb barrier. This is with Overlays off and sound options disabled.

Other than the artifacts (which can be hidden/corrected to a degree) it's looking really great! Moire is a nightmare still, but the rainbow swirls can be fixed pretty easily. I've been processing the files into video just to get familiar with the workflow. Using Photoshop to grade and DaVinci Resolve for final polish and convert into 1080p ProRes.

This was done using 16gb UHS-I 95MB/s Sandisk Extreme cards.

Could you plz upload a ref picture of you RAW?

In that which i were using there wasn't Raw could someone please provide me last version before RAW?  That would be realy nice. In that version which i were using there were like small icons near options which shows like magic zoom loction or other thing place or so,ething associated with that feature. That was really usefull. Sorry for mistakes.

How is that build working? Does FPS overide work, hdr bracketing?

What does work and what does not work?

most of the features work fine BUT operating with ML settings under Liveview mode may cause a crash,just remove the battery and the card then wait a moment it'll be ok

the RAW video recording could be set to around 1732*1150 or some values else but was limited to 1280*720 to work just ok with 1 skipped within every 300 frames on a sandisk 45MB/s SD card

you can check the detailed test carried out by someone above

i will update some other reports when i come back

Oh, sorry didn't notice about that it is missing 650D, that must be the problem, is there any newer version for 650d than the first one? I had one, but i've lost it. It was posted in this topic, but i can't find it anymore.

the one i believe to be "official" from @nanomad is from #1472, but there was no RAW yet

now im using the compiled build from @Sariani with RAWVIDEO

which is from the group?or both ?

The pattern is something I am working on. I'll probably provide a test build that dumps a couple of raw frames with different settings to decide which one looks better

About screen being mirrored : there's a setting n ML menu that changes that behavior

And the speed you're getting are fine. The controller isn't that good

So there is no chance of getting higher res of RAW becuz of the controller?
