There are Sandisk Extreme Pro cards of 300mbs read speeds and very high write speeds as well as cards that are 95mbs Extreme Pro. Not sure which to buy.

Camera-specific Development / Re: Canon EOS M
August 12, 2017, 03:28:00 AM
I've been away for almost 2 yrs. I'm excited to see whats new and I need advice on recording video with the screen off. How to? I need to record for as long as possible. I got the LCD to turn off while recording but my first file was only 4.7 minutes long with the camera going to sleep. What do I need to do to get the longest recording?

I checked twice and can't find any "touch to focus " options even when in continuous focus mode. I'm using the 22mm lens.

I have been using ML version from about 4-2-14. I don't have the exact figures, but I noticed that when using the camera with a non ML card my auto focus has changed. It seems that continuous focus works but if it is disabled it will not focus with a touch of the screen only a press of the shutter. I always thought it was fun to just touch an object on the screen and watch it focus. I'm bummed. Anyone else have this problem?

Any feedback on the newest (4-13-14) version?

Update. I have focussing like I was expecting. I just set the focus box to the smallest option and enabled full time autofocus. Simple enough.

I was shooting intervelometer today and when it was set on pic every 0s (pics like crazy) it would not stop or come out of the cycle no matter what was pressed. Had to pull battery.

I see audio meters are showing while recording video. This is new, right?

I noticed that the software would not run if I copied it over with the card in my Laptop. I had to use a card reader. I don't understand why that happens but I think other people are having the same problem with the cam not booting up. Please use a separate card reader.
I'm using the TL firmware because I couldn't find it on this site. Others may be having this issue too.
Hope this helps someone.

I think having in camera stabilization on the first of April would be a great announcement. ;)

Extremely cool! Really enjoyed it.

With a compact lens the camera is much much smaller than my 5D's and I can use my EF lenses when I don't care about the size. I purchased it for a family cam that was advanced enough for me to enjoy. The image quality is excellent but the autofocus is poor. For video who cares. It is so much easier for steadicam or handheld footage. Not only is the camera small (and can autofocus during video) but all the rigs and supports can be smaller too. My steadicam is a Smoothee, its high quality small and cheap comparably. It looks great with vintage lenses which tend to be more compact than modern lenses. Lots of fun for cheap!$300

I have a Canon 28 1.8 and a new Sigma 35 1.4 DG. Both are great lenses. The 28 is cheap, fast and wide with low distortion. It is not the the best for IQ but I am rarely let down. The new Sigma is extremely sharp and has excellent Image Quality. Its built really well and looks great! It is directly comparable to the Canon L version but will save you a 4 to 5 hundred bucks. Not sure about its long term durability compared to the L but it is a very solid lens. If you are using this lens on a hand held rig I would suggest going small and light. The 28 is very compact and light. Both lenses have a fairly short focus throw.

I'm getting close numbers with my 5D2 Lexar pro 600/32 card @ 1880x1058.

actual/predicted
259/263     GD on

I have a 32GB Lexar 600x and I'm quite happy with writing speeds just over 70mbs. It seems to be an overachiever. Looks like you cant buy them anymore but the better 1000x speed cards are $125 for 32GB.

That was captivating!

I had ML confirmed running on my 50D and when I replaced the Auto Exec. file and replaced the ML files for raw rec, the camera will not load saying it is missing scripts. What have I done? There never was a scripts folder.

That was it! Thanks for the reply. I had just realized this yesterday. Works like a charm.

So, if I'm having the same problem with my 5d2 because I may have been hasty in removing the card, is the solution sending it in to get reflashed?

Raw Video / Re: Raw video on 5DMK2

I was recording in 1440x720 and the buffer was handling things fine using a Lexar Pro 600x card, when all of a sudden it quit at about 2900 frames. I wanted to try a full 4gb run using the May 21 build, but it was like the camera went to sleep. What happened?

I got it. When I reset settings the liveview became set on  1 minute sleep.

General Help Q&A / Card Benchmarking
May 22, 2013, 05:57:23 PM
I'm having trouble with the card benchmark feature. I would think that it would generate results and a bmp file, but I only see it begin then the camera soon goes dark and I wait but never see anything finished and no viewable file. How is this suppose to work?
