when connecting to an external monitor via hdmi.
sometimes the white rectangle recording area is only showing one white line instead of showing 4 lines to make a rectangle and that one white line is way off where its supposed to be.
anyway to fix this?

Hi Vikado, have you try to select ML grayscale from the RAW-->Preview menu? This always works with my EVF and external monitor! When you have to monitor directly from the DSLR screen you have to choose Canon.

Hi everyone.
I noticed some strange "flickering" while something crossed the frame (ex. somebody passing trough the shot). It's like the WB and exposure go crazy for one second.
But this happen only when I postprocess the RAW files with After effects. With Davinci nothing happend and everything works fine.
Has anybody notice that? I use AE CS5.5.

Sandisk Extreme 60 MB/s 400x 64GB card.
I can do a little less than 55MB/s in raw video mode.

I don't know how you guys got that screen shot of your results, so here is the text from the bench.log file

It's saved in the CF card, in the main folder.

It might be a stupid question, but have anybody find a way to have a remain space indicator while recording RAW? Because it happens twice that a recording suddenly stops because of the lack of space. For now I can only check the this when I'm not recording...

with regards to the hdmi out framing being off to the left, how about having a turn off option for the record frame (black/white rect) when using hdmi so I can just overlay the appropriate matte over my ext monitor screen for framing?

If you select ML grayscale from the preview menu the white or black bars will not be displayed. With my Zacuto EVF I use the internal 2.35 mask and on my 7" monitor regular gaffer tape. Don't know if ML Grayscale is supposed to do so or is just an side effect.

So in your opinion is it worth the price?

Of course. It gives you the freedom to shoot wherever you want. The only cons I see is the minimal focus shifting and the bad performance with zoom, because it didn't hold the focus while zooming. But This cons are microscopic against moiré and aliasing.

yesterday I had a bit of time for an outdoor test with the 5D. I wanted to test how was the focus with a deep depth of field, because you know, when you shot at f/16 with the 5d, everything is very blurry with a lack of detail and sharpness.
The overall quality looks good, a part from the noise presence multiplied with the grain of fimconvert(I simply forgot to denoise the footage).
I don't see any noticeable artifact or moire/aliasing problem(I use the VAF-5D2 filter btw).

For the green dots, I used the Simple wire removal from AE.
There's just one thing I don't like at all, the choppy panning. It was not a shutter issue(I was at 1/48th). What can it be? Any idea? Or is just an impression?

I am assuming that you are getting the 'Error: This ain't a lv_rec RAW file' error.

I get this if I use the raw2dng.app.0.10. If I use the raw2dng.app.0.5 it will work. Try it.

Thank you, version 0.5 works properly. Now I pushed my tests a bit far, I recorded a full 16Gb CF card with a 1880x800 RAW capture. The recording looks fine, no errors or dropped frames.
I used a 16Gb Extreme pro Sandisk card, with Global drawn OFF, and I changed the photo mode to the lowest quality S 5.2Mb, Raw off.

Now I'm joining all the files and I'll see the results in AE. If this works fine, well...

That´s a simple test with a Canon 5D Mark II.
I just did 3 shots in low light conditions from my window.
All videos shot with 24-105 Canon - F4.0. Shutter Speed 50. ISO H1. Recorded in a CF Sandisk 16 GB 60 MB/S.
Shooting:
First Video in H.264 - size 1920 x 1080
Second using ML RAW, 16 FPS (FPS override) and
converted to 24 FPS with Quick Time 7 - size 1880 x 1058.
Last video using also ML RAW, but with 25 FPS - size 1440 x 810 (upgrade to 1920 x 1080 in the final video)

Yes, now I can join the files, but it gives me the "lv_rec..." error, and I don't have the time to compile with an hex editor the files. 

Same problem here. I have to test it, because I don't know if just the EVF image is on the left of the screen but the record area still remain on the center of the sensor or not. Because if this happens you can't monitoring it properly!

I am using Mac OS X and can successfully join RAW files and convert to DNG.

I don't understand the workflow behind this. You join the two pieces and the it becomes a single raw file and you convert in in raw2dng? If yes, how do you do it?

For anyone who is bored. I wanted to see if longer 'demonstration' videos could be done. 5DMKII over 2 minutes (joined RAW files with 'cat' command from the terminal on Mac). Also the sound was synced using a 4channel modified ZoomH2 recorder using traditional clapper board.

Can you simply explain what you have done? Because I upgraded to the 31st may build and I did a 5Gb long video(split in two), but now I'm not able to join them. And when I try to convert the RAW file it gives me an error!

Is somebody trying to shoot with an EVF or monitor? I'm having a little problem, the white frame is all pushed to the link side of the screen. Nothing too bad, but I don't know if there's a way to have it right in the center of the screen.

And something else: I found out that most of the time there's is too much sharpness in the edges, and it's something weird. I don't think it can depends on a picture style, and I tried to play with sharpness in Camera raw, but it's like a sort of micro-blocking sharpness. Something I found useful is using a fast blur of about 0,5. It's funny that before RAW video we where always using unsharpening mask, and now the sharpness is too much!

Do you think it's caused by the resolution(1720x732 image on an 27" iMac screen?)

Don't know if in the latest nightbuild there's something useful!

Moire and aliasing are core artifacts caused by line skipping and there's probably no way around it besides recording in 1:1 crop mode. The artifacts are probably more pronounced at 1280x720 due to the fact that it's magnifying a portion of the 1880x1250 full frame.

So we have to hope for a stable 1880x1250 or 1:1 RAW recording?

Is anybody noticing artifacts such as moire or aliasing with the 5Dmk2?
I have the VAF-5D2 filter, and I tried a couple of shots without it, but it was a mess. All the test I did were made with the filter ON. But even with the filter there are some artifacts with hair and horizontal lines. Is it happening because of the 1280x720 crop?

Here's a rough editing of some tests I did this morning. Of course the vimeo compression is still degrading the footage, but I've never reached this kind of detail and richness with my 5D.

Workaround
You need to click stop button before the Buffer is full and quit

When I got this error I recorded i think 300-400 frames and not at full buffer. And what do you mean with "quit"?

When I got this error I was using 1/48 of shutter speed, so I don't think this is the problem.
Now I'm testing Raw mode with the 15th may night build, and I don't have any problem. Maybe the error is given by some code strings that have been rewritten or insert in the new night build, but I don't have the skills to compile and correct the code(if this is the problem).

Started last night with my 5D Mark II, so shutter probably worn out. I was shooting 1/2000th pictures last weekend of Icelandic horses doing tölt, so that probably explains it ...

The only way to work and test with RAW mode is using not the latest night build and fix.
Will upload some low light test soon.

hahaha, no is just an old zoom lens(85-205 f/3.8 ), this is the lens case.
