I found this   http://dynamicperception.com/products/dollyshield-diy-kit its 55 dollars. (their other products are great but too pricy for me right now)  so I'm thinking all I would need to do is build this and hook it up to the scanners motor and boom time lapse dolly

Just used my Opteka Fish eye lens on my kit lens Magic lantern was My timer

oh cool  I hadn't thought of that. I guess now I need to find a broken scanner(just glass) :-[ Shouldn't be that hard. I would need to figure out to get the scanner to get recognized by the raspberry pi well linux. and Figure out the back and fourth functions. Im thinking I would need to offset the time  so if magic lantern is shooting  a picture every 5 sec the dolly would have already needed to move. so it moves and takes a picture ;D

Can magic lantern control usb devices? Like the motor on a scanner.  Would make an awesome time lapse dolly. I'm guessing power out of the usb would be a problem.  maybe be able to control an audrino  http://www.arduino.cc/  if the usb deveice already on the scanner wouldn't work.  an external power source(or audrino)  could provide the power to the motor and let ML tell the audrino to trigger the motor and  of course you would have to remove the glass(and any other unnecessary parts)  and ad a camera mount.           Just an idea old Scanners make a good diy dolly

I was aiming  for 4000 but my cameras battery died and needed to be charged.  I used RC2 for this

is it possible for ML To Install picture styles from the sd card. Would be helpful then You wouldn't be limited to just 3.   Maybe have a folder where all picture styles can be placed. so ML would allow you to select and install ones you want.  if they could not placed/installed  on the camera would it be possible to have ML read and use then. and temp disable the ones  on the camera?

Taken with the kit lens my favorite lens for time lapse because it my widest lens that I own. I used the CineStyle picture style and graded it with Apples color.

That was a good test of stability too :)

Did it stop after the right number of pictures? I've never actually tried that.

Yes It stopped  exactly  after 1000  (the camera doesn't turn off but it will eventually go to sleep)   I've  tried 400 and 1000  I'm going  to try to take a longer one today.

Hardware and Accessories / Re: Lenses for 550d

Might consider mount converters so you can use older (usually cheaper lenses) on your camera. I use old  Pentax lenses and fd lenses on my 550D Might be a good way for you to get quality Glass for cheap.

I've used Fd lenses a lot.  they are great lenses only complaints I have is the lenses have to be mounted in order to open and close the aperture and some times it will get stuck with my adaptor. also i've read you loose about a full stop of light.
