I never noticed unreliable shutter count info on my cameras. Also I use photoshop to verify EXIf info as well as "EOS Camera Info" on Windows.
Thanks.
I downloaded EOS Camera Info from sourceforge as I was a bit happier about trusting that.

And sure enough it reported the shutter count as 19k.

So I must be grossly underestimating just how many images I have deleted.  :-[

Also I guess the image number probably threw me - doesn't it start back at 0 after 9999?
Hence why the lastest images have something like 8800 - so that would indicate something more like the 19k

You sure that your camera was 0 shutter count when you bought it  :P :o ??

Not unless Canon took lots of test shots at the factory. It was purchased brand new  :)

So at least that is cleared up now.  Looks like ML is accurate.

Did you try one of those "camera shutter count" online services? What do they show to you?

I tried the ones that allow you to upload an image and they extract it from the exif, but they all report the 70D as not supported.

I didn't trust any of the downloadable utilities.

So I just wondered whether other ML 70D users here saw with their cameras? Does the shutter count look correct?

Is the accuracy of the shutter count function in ML assumed to be correct?

The reason I ask is that I am getting my 70D ready to sell, and wanted to check the shutter count.

Looking at photos, the numbering indicated 8800.
If I look in Lightroom - where all my photos are stored, then the metadata view shows 7500 with 70D.
That sounds about right - I don't delete photos unless they are clearly taken in error or just plain bad (e.g. OoF)
I dont 'run and gun' - so 8800 over the last 3 years looked to be in the ballpark I was expecting.  (the 70D isn't my only camera)

But ML shutter count shows >19k + >3,5k live view. And I thought there's no way I have taken that many pics with it.

Hence my question.

No need to duplicate questions in 2 threads. DotTune works on 70D. Better read through the dottune thread again for instructions. Screen going black rather sounds like powersave. If you are in doubt then reset cam settings and retry.

Sorry for the duplicate post.

The culprit seems to have been the LCD on/off Btn on the 2nd camera tool menu.  If I set that to remain on, the LCD remained on whilst it was performing the AFMA.

Anyone got dotTune working on their 70D?

Couldn't get this working on mine

Nightly.2016Mar08.70D111A

Following the instructions,
I focus manually in LV
Start DotTune AMFA Scan.
It gives a couple of messages about perfect focus and keeping the camera still.
Then it shows the dotTune 'range' across the top of the menu screen.
But then the screen goes blank.
I leave it for 10+ minutes, and it is still blank and the camera controls are inoperative.
So I have to switch off.

small issue I noticed.

If you enable Movie Crop mode in movie, then when shooting a still image you get a warning message on the AF Focus Method screen saying
"AF method restricted when digital zoom is enabled" and you can't select Flexizone AF.

This persists even if you boot without ML using another card.

It only goes away when you go back to movie settings in ML and turn crop mode off.

Are you sure the card isn't bootable still after you used it for something else? Its supposed to work like 600D.

Yes. That was it I think.

I had done a quick format but the camera still wouldn't start up.
So I did a full format and then it worked.
But this card had the 600D version of ML on it previously, so it seems a quick format wasn't getting rid of that.

I then tried another card that had been nowhere near ML, and that worked fine too.

I finally got around to installing ML on my M today (having already got it on a 600D).

Thanks to everyone concerned.

A  questions.

The M won't boot if I put a card in without ML on it.  The led just rapidly blinks until I remove the battery.
This is unlike my 600D which does, which seems a simple way of disabling ML - just use a card without ML on it.

Is this just the current state of the M version, or a new 'feature'?

I seem to be unable to remove ML from my 600D.

If I go to the firmware update process with an ML card in the camera, then it just appears to install again.

I don't get any dialog saying I need to turn the mode dial or anything.

How do I remove it?
I have a problem with my 600D and want to completely remove ML to first confirm it isn't causing the problem, and then returning to Canon for Service if it is still there.

EDIT:  I solved it.  I followed the instructions properly this time  :)
