Me again.
I tried dual-iso once more.
1. Interlaced picture

Input file     : DUAL1627.CR2
Full size      : 5360 x 3516
Active area    : 5202 x 3465

Smoothing alias map...
Noise level    : 3.88 (16-bit)
Dynamic range  : 13.54 EV (cooked)
Black adjust   : -2
Output file    : DUAL1627.DNG

No problem

2. Alternates frames only "ON"
So I shot twice and got two DUAL pictures.

Input file     : DUAL1628.CR2
Full size      : 5360 x 3516
Active area    : 5202 x 3465
White level    : 13482

Doesn't look like interlaced ISO

Even if it is a dual-iso picture, it is not processed.

I tried to install the Cr2hdr package for Mac (containing dcraw and exiftool).
But it seems it has been developped for the latest version of OsX (Lion and Mountain Lion).
So, it doesn't seem to work :
- first picture :
    1 image files updated

Input file     : DUAL1624.CR2
Full size      : 5360 x 3516
Active area    : 5202 x 3465
White level    : 15201
Black borders  : 158 left, 51 top
Black level    : 1954
ISO pattern    : dBBd GBRG
Noise levels   : 5.47 19.27 21.10 5.33 (14-bit)
Estimating ISO difference...
ISO difference : 3.10 EV (859)
Black delta    : 7.13
Interpolation  : mean23-chroma5x5-alias
Dynamic range  : 11.28 (+) 9.29 => 12.40 EV (in theory)
Matching brightness...
Looking for hot/cold pixels...
Hot pixels     : 13126
Cold pixels    : 130928
Full-res reconstruction...
ISO overlap    : 5.2 EV (approx)
Half-res blending...
Chroma filtering...
Building alias map...
Dilating alias map...
Smoothing alias map...
Noise level    : 5.96 (16-bit)
Dynamic range  : 13.12 EV (cooked)
Black adjust   : -3
Output file    : DUAL1624.DNG

- second picture :

Input file     : IMG_1625.CR2
Full size      : 5360 x 3516
Active area    : 5202 x 3465
Doesn't look like interlaced ISO

And I get only one.dng (the first picture)

So, I've understood how to process the interlaced picture  ;) with cr2hdr.
This morning I took a dual iso picture with the "alternate frame" activated. So I got two pictures  8) (because I pressed the shutter twice  ::) ).
How shall I process them ? I tried with cr2hdr, but it doesn't seem to be the right way  ???

I succeeded in taking two pictures  :). Was is confusing  is that when you review the pictures, the Iso number is not changed and stays at the lowest value.
I thought it was automatic and that I had to press the shutter once (by the way is it written somewhere that you must press the shutter twice  :o) ?)
I tried also with the alternate frames disabled. It works (you're not surprised, aren't you ?)
What program replaces I found CR2HDR for the Mac users ?

OK, I'll read and try.

Ok, I tried with -0,5EV, 0,2% Highlight ignore, no clipping, Slowest shutter 1/8.
I took a picture Iso 400, 1/125, 5.6. The histogram is centered.
The second picture with the ML settings was exactly the same,
The third one was 1/250, 5.6. The histogram is on the left with a pike on the right. The +/- ont he top of the screen shows -1, and when I go on the Quick menu of the 7d, The exposure correction shows -1.
And when I go to the Canon Menu the Exposure correction has been modified to -1 (I've never changed that value !). When I put this value to 0 and I take pictures with ETTR on, the value is modified to -1.

At the moment it's impossible for me to get two pictures even if I activate the "Alternate frames only" which is an option in the Dual Iso menu.
I only get the interlaced picture.
The program needed for post processing the interlaced picture is Cr2HDR, right ?
Thierry

The values are :
Trigger mode : always on
Exposure target : -3EV
Highlight ignore : 0,2%
Clipping mode : no clipping
Slowest shutter : 1/44
The rest : OFF

Hum, sorry for the trouble, I didn't explain myself enough.
I asked "how many pictures", because my 7d only makes one picture.
The settings are on the 7d 100, in ML/dual iso : 100-1600.
According to what I have understood about dual iso, there should be 2 pictures one in 100 iso, the other in 1600. But maybe I have not understood anything  :-[

Hi ETTR guys.
I must be doing something wrong...
I tried ETTR on my 7d and followed the instructions from the first page of this post.
But I get a wrong result : exposing to the left.
An example :
- first picture 1/60, 4,5, iso 400, Manual mode, ETTR always on -3EV. The exposure is normal and the histogram center and left
- second picture calculated by the 7d : 1/250, 4,5, iso 100. The histogram is completely on the left.
Shouldn't it be the contrary and the 7d shouldn't have calculated an over exposition like 1/60, 4,5, iso 800 or more ?
I'm completely confused.

Thanks Walter,
I tried to read everything, but I'm completely lost, sorry.
And I've unluckily not much time to allow to reading all the posts.
So, you answered "yes", and I thank you for that.
But 1 or 2 ?

Maybe a stupid question  ???
When taking pictures in dual iso mode (100-1600), the camera (7d) takes 1 or 2 pictures (1 in 100 iso, 1 in 1600 iso) ?

Thank you Arrinkiii,
I finally succeeded in reinstalling ML.
I followed the Mac instructions, but there was still a problem (7d freezed), I guess it was because the DCIM and MISC directories had not been created by my 7d... Who knows ???
I formatted twice or three times, on my Mac, on a PC, on the 7d, changed AUTOEXEC.BIN in autoexec.bin and now it works.
The electronic-informatic world is very very very strange  :o
Regards
Thierry
Next time I'll try to use Eoscard on an old PC (it's not because I run Mac that I should not own an old PC - everybody has got candles at home, although everybody uses electrivcity)  ;)
#43
Hi Arrinkiiii
I finally succeeded in formating my cf card, which is now recognized by my Mac and by the 7d.
My problem is that I only have now the modules directory and the autoexec.bin.
Where can I find all the missing directories and files ?
Regards
Thierry
#44
Thanks Arrinkiiii,
Something went really wrong : my cf card now freezes my 7d ????!!!! I can't formlat it neither by my Mac, nor by my 7d  :o
Eoscard is surelly a good way to update ML but I'm running a Mac whiwh ignores what Eoscard can be.

Thierry

Good evening Arrinkiiii.
I am lost :
I updated ML Alpha2 from the first link (https://www.dropbox.com/sh/9w5t3lcmgugo32g/Xmn6H066DY), and ML doesn't work any more ! Snif
(I noticed that the ML directory only contains a "Modules" directory.
What have I done wrong ?
Regards
Thierry
Maybe I missed something, but there should be only one place where to download the complete ML-7d program
#46
For those who do not use Eoscard.exe
Don't make the same mistake as me : install the two files (.bin and .sym)on the CF card
Thierry
#47
Same for me.
7D_203.sym (the last ont downloaded five minutes ago from the link given by Jemabaris) is in the modules directory.
And when I tried to load the modules.... The 7d freezes

I'm so stupid  :-[
I had not understood that the two files (.bin AND .sym) had to be installed on the CF card !

Now the modules can be loaded and the silent picture menu appears in the shoot menu.

@ Pileot
Maybe can you add to your istallation guide the following procedure for Mac users ?

Mac users :
- ask for the "firmware.fir" on the forum (maybe a special thread should be created ???)
- copy firmware.fir on your desktop or any other directory on your Mac
- search on the web, download and install Eos Utility 2.8.1 (here for example http://dl.dropbox.com/u/31127109/dontdelete/EOSUtility%202-8-1%20OS%20X%20Lion%20Compatible.zip). If you've got a newer version of Eos Utility you will have to remove it before.
- follow the instruction guide from #7
- after enabling the bootflag, make your CF card bootable using "Macboot" (select "Make DSLR bootable")
- copy the ML files on your CF card.
- it's done

Thierry
#49
Done. OK.
When I press the delete button, the "normal" Canon menu appears during 1/3 of a second, and then the ML menu appears.
Is it normal ?
Thierry
#50
And it works well.
But the red light on my 7d is always blinking even if I do not call ML by pressing the dustbin button.
Is it normal ?
