General Help Q&A / Lost with Dual-ISO
October 10, 2016, 11:05:01 AM
Hi eveybody.
I've been out of the forum for a while and the ML version installed on my 7D is 2016May07.7D203.
I had tried long ago the Dual ISO feature along with the CR2HDR program for Mac. But while cleaning my Mac, I suppressed this program.
I used Dual ISO again a few days ago, but I'm a little bit confusede.
In my memories the Dual ISO pictures were named DUAL xxx. This name no longer appears on the files, but on my 7D screen I can see horizontal lignes clear and dark which shows that it's a Dual ISO picture.
I tried to find CR2HDR, but I have not succeeded. Where can I find it ? I'm on Mac with Snow Leopard.

Feature Requests / Re: A ML 7d only for pictures ?

Ok.
But maybe some people would like to have only the pictures options with zebras or whatever, and not the video features appear when they call the ML menu.
Because it's a loss of time (jumping from one sub menu to the other, maybe I'm not clear ?) and space for them (on the card).
And for people discovering ML it would be a first step in the Ml world, until a final version of ML7d appears.

Feature Requests / A ML 7d only for pictures ?
October 03, 2014, 10:47:48 AM
Hi,
until a complete and final version of ML 7d comes to birth, would it be possible to get a "light" ML 7d dedicated only for taking pictures , with no video features ?
Why ?
Because some (many ?) people are not interested in taking videos and also because the picture part of ML 7d seems to be complete and working (as far as I have understood).

Sorry, made a mistake.

I changed the subject, guessing that ML and TL have got the same Stack Focus menu.
I wrote this tutorial for dummies (like me). It is surely not the best Stack Focus procedure, but it works, and it's an introduction to Stack Focus even if it  does not correspond to what the developpers have in mind when they created ML (fixing the End Point before the the Start Point for example).
I have not yet understood what the rack Focus is, so I have not mentionned it.
I will try to improve it if I find a bettter procedure.

Considering that my tutorial is nonsense for the developper of ML, I decided to erease it.
Sorry for the trouble.

Ps : For those who have got a smartphone, I recommend them to try the Helicon Remote Control application.

General Help Q&A / Re: Focus stacking with 7d
April 28, 2014, 08:27:54 PM
Thanks,
I had already watched it.
It's not up to date, not on a 7d, and it does not anwer my questions (I am on TL no more on ML, does it change anything ?).
I really need help from somebody who has got the same configuration as me (I'm a bit old now and slow brained  :-[ )
A kind of step by step guide...

General Help Q&A / Closed : Focus stacking with 7d
April 28, 2014, 07:14:54 PM
Hello,
I can't understand focus stacking with my 7d.
Do you know where I can find an easy tutorial (up to date) to help me?
I've succeeded in fixing a start point ("Q" button), an end point "Set + L-R") ; (well, in fact, I guess I have succeeded as nothing tells me the start point or end point is fixed) ; but I can't understand how to decide how many pictures to take (before, after, ????).

Thierry
If someone shoots a video of a focus stacking session, it would be a great help.

Feature Requests / Re: Focus Stacking ML 7D

Hi Walter : thanks for your support.
Hi Marsu42.
I've lost some time trying to understand stack focus on ML this afternoon.
Maybe I'm too old, but it's still confusing me : for example I can't undestand how many pictures to take. Who decides and how ? Then when I have selected a start point, sometimes I can move the focus with the main wheel, sometimes I move inside the ML menu. The arrows move either the focus point or the focus window...
Really it's not as easy as I expected.
I've tried to find a tutorial, but those I found are too old (for example the set button is used for fixing the starting point, instead of the Q button), and they are not based on the 7d which adds a little more confusion to me.

Thierry
PS : If I was a progammer or if I had the capabilities, be sure I would propose my help and skill.

Maybe I'm too stupid so you can't understand what I'm trying to explain.

During a stack focus session the camera takes pictures from one point to another.
These points are set in ML by pressing the SET button.

These points can be named :
- "A" --------> "B"
- "1" --------> "2"
- "Alpha"----> "Omega"
"Start stack focus"------> "End stack focus"
- "Start point"-----------> "End point"

In ML these two distincive points have got the SAME name "End point". This is the only thing that I consider as being confusing.

You don't need a laptop : please, watch this video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKE19PdeN18
Why Helicon remote (and other mobile phone applications) can do it ?

Well the topic you linked did not help me much (if someone has to read lots of topics and hundreds of messages to understand a procedure, it looks like the procedure is not as simple as expected, no ?)
I just wanted to show that the procedure is a little bit confusing comparing to those used by other applications (have you watched the Helicon Remote Focus video ?) That's all.
Helicon Remote is not the only one...
Maybe you should make a test with someone who discovers focus stacking (first with Helicon, then with ML)... I made it. That's why I dared to write this message.

Feature Requests / Focus Stacking ML 7D
April 26, 2014, 11:40:04 AM
Good morning from France.
I admit that I do not use teh focus stacking feature everyday (who does ?), but each time I try to use it, I'm confused and I have to read the tutorial to remind me what to do.
Remember that the focus stacking procedure only asks you for an "end point", then for another "end point". The first one becomming a start point (well that's what I guess...).
Wouldn't it be easier to follow a procedure like tis one :
- select a start point (foreground or background)
- lock the start point
- select an end point
- lock the end point
- choose the parameters (step and so on)
You can find such a procedure in the Helicon Remote Control application : http://youtu.be/3LDSGWPNe3o.

Good evening 7d fellows.
I have noticed a new icon when using Live View (I'm not an expert of Live View) : A DISP icon.
I have not been able to find what it means.
Please help.
I'm dicovering Tragic Lantern and as it's improving very fast, maybe I've missed something.

OK.
I downloaded the latest nightly buid.
I noticed there is a 7D_203.fir in the zip file.
Do I have to update the .fir of my 7d ?
Or only copy the .bin and the directories on my flash card ?

Hi, Walter.
Can't find any "Flash Delay" in the Focus setting submenu.
There is only a "Rack Delay". Is it the same ?
I hope it is in seconds, not like the Step delay which is in ms.

Thierry
#24
Ok Walter.
Do you think that the delay between two pictures is long enough for the internal flash to rearm (the battery of my 7d is down so I can't check).

Hi, Walter.
I followed your procedure and it works.
So, I undestand that "Focus end point" is used just to show how many steps are needed to get the desired DOF.
And that the number of steps are the result of "number of pictures x focus steps/pictures).
For example :I need 12 steps to achieve the DOF I want, I decide either "4 pictures x 3 steps" or "3 pictures x 4 steps"
Then according to the focus start or end point I choose how many pictures I want "in front" if I choosed the focus end point, or "behind" if I choosed the focus start point.
Correct me if I'm wrong
That was not clear at all to me.
Thank you Walter.
Regards
Thierry
