I agree with @mimbik, looks like you're dropping frames due to the main footage being set to (interpreted as) 30fps and playback being 24fps.

Did you notice if the footage seemed to be a different duration while editing than when shot?

Perfect! This further explains my discrepancies outdoors with bright skies in the upper part of my framing

So ML ETTR is doing what it's supposed to taking the whole scene into consideration, rather than Canon's mostly center frame metering. Make sense now.

I can see where depending upon circumstances and preferences one method would be desired over the other (using Canon metering vs ML histogram and ETTR).

Your 7D writes at 80 MBps max, but faster cards will work if you have them or buy them with the forethought of using them with a faster camera someday, otherwise why pay for speed you don't need?

I can tell you I didn't read the title of this post properly and initially thought we were talking about how using the histogram and ETTR/ETTR hint is causing under exposure or at least under exposing compared to the Canon exposure meter, which I (and a few others) seemed to have been experiencing (for me appeared to be about 1.5 to 2 stops).

So thank you for the explanation of how ETTR/ETTR hint works, now I can see why this might be the case, even though the exposure discrepancy seems to be more prevalent outdoors.

Ok, thank you for clearing that up. I always have GD on, so I didn't realize when you have it off and are using width resolutions greater than 1920 that the scene framing is larger than the LCD view

Professional cinematographers frame their monitors/LCDs with tape all the time and have been doing so for many years, use painters blue tape for easy removal or clear tape to see overlays when Global Draw is turned on.

Ok, just did an indoor test and I'm not really seeing a problem

In the past I was doing outdoor shots and I'm thinking now the extreme of the skies may have been pushing the histogram further to the right, having me adjusting exposure down.

Outdoors is very overcast today, so won't be able to do additional experiment for now

I experienced the same thing, for now I'm using canon exposure for shooting mlv and all is fine.

Some say ACR debayers better than DR. That being said, did you adjust the RAW input setting in Davinci Resolve? Setting to BMD Film is suggested for ML RAW.

Are you saying you want to first copy the files on the CF card to the SD card and then use USB cable to transfer files on SD to computer?

Not a bad solution for now as it will help protect the original CF card files, but I'm not sure how to copy the files over.

Can you re-upload please, because I can not expand your screenshots. PS: whats your opinion performance wise of Komputerbay 1066x 128gb for 5D mark III? I'm considering also.

I've never used the KB 128GB 1066x, but I hear they work very well. STAY AWAY FROM KB 128GB 1000x, even KB realizes how bad they are and are selling at a discount because of it.

Also, max resolution for continuous recording on 5DM2 is 1880x940@24p, so you're a bit over the limit, back down the resolution for continuous raw recording.
