Try setting to 30fps in Canon menu.

Have you tried resetting camera and ML to defaults and then shoot dark footage and see what happens?
#103
I think I know what you're referring too, if the boot flag is on and you're not using a card with ML installed, then there's a 2-second or so camera boot delay (I guess as camera searches for ML?)

Not sure if this has been improved upon, but it would only be a concern if ML is not on card. Also, the big concern was that at the time the boot flag could not be turned off with the 5DM3, that's no longer the case, boot flag can now be removed from camera.

Hmmm... That should be fine then.

Still might be something wrong with in-camera power circuitry, but these results don't bolster that prognosis.

You could send it to Canon for diagnosis (free? IDK), then fix it yourself, cause what Canon will charge for the repair is probably more than cost to replace the camera.

If your come to your wits end after waiting for other suggestions, etc., then I would consider as a last resort to swap out the power module, they cost around $50-$100 and usually only require removing the back cover of the camera, mostly a bunch of tiny screws (some may be under the rubber grip) and delicate clips, you could probably find a YouTube video showing how to do it or similar.
#105
Have you accidentally turned on dual-ISO/HDR in the camera?
#106
Well then my thoughts are the 3rd party grip fried your in-camera power circuit/voltage regulator, which you could probably handle replacing yourself (or a friend handy with electronics) for not too much.

BUT, the first thing I would do to help confirm this MIGHT be the issue, is to hook up a volt meter to the output of the battery grip (your going to need to determine which pins are pos and neg) and see what you get, better if you can use a digital meter which retains the peak voltage or an analog meter which you can see if there's a voltage spike at first. Voltage should be between 7.2-8.4 DC volts.

#107
Good point, did you put the battery door back on after removing it for installing the grip or did you just insert battery into camera and retained with clip?
#109
Absolutely nothing, not even red blinking led after you insert memory card with a battery installed?

I think a lot of us are dealing with this issue to some degree. If really going for professional work product, then calibrated external monitor with external vectorscope is necessary, but expensive.

Some additional things you can do without that stuff is to include watching on HDTV via HDMI (especially if TV is your final medium), but even different HDTVs will give you different looks. Also try setting color values using waveforms, histograms, and vectorscope with your computer monitor according to where your video will be viewed, web, tv, theater, etc., as each uses a different color space.

Raw Video / Re: install RAW module 5D mk2
July 25, 2014, 12:57:04 PM
I would suggest installing the latest nightly. Although nightlies are very stable, the general consensus is that the official public release and alpha versions are considered completely stable.

As for recording raw video, there are two main modules, raw_rec.mo (RAW) and mlv_rec.mo (MLV) and two supporting modules for MLV raw (mlv_snd.mo and mlv_play.mo), one is for recording sound, the other for in-camera playback.

The main overt difference between the two is the raw module (raw v1) does not record audio whilst the mlv module (raw v2) does support audio recording via mlv_snd; there may be some other internal differences which are unknown to me. Also, some say the RAW module is more reliable than the MLV module. As far as post production, many apps exist for making it very easy for processing either version of ML raw.

General Help Q&A / Re: Overlay in the right corner

I could never figure that out either, I seemed to work like a rolling histogram on my 5DM2 and now I don't see it on my 5DM3 with July 4 2014 build, but I don't think it's a vectorscope, not any that I'm familiar with anyway.

Raw Video / Re: RAW Video: strange issue on Mac
July 25, 2014, 02:05:35 AM
There's been talk on the forum that sometimes depending upon what application and on which OS you use to view an ML DNG file, it will be displayed differently due to how that app processes the file and its meta data. What you're experiencing is probably codec related to the image's black level.

Fingers crossed :D

Only way to get higher resolution is in 3x crop mode, otherwise the horizontal resolution is limited by the LiveView feed of 1920 for the 5DM3 in 1x mode.

General Chat / Re: Dynamic Range of the 5D
July 24, 2014, 06:01:09 PM
Dynamic range is rated at the camera without regard to post. The ability to process dual-ISO/HDR with greater DR from post processing routines isn't included in these test.

Doesn't matter unless you plan on using card spanning feature, if so then you're dealing with a 20 MBps camera data bus limit with the SD card anyway. The fastest write speed ML uses does not correspond to the lowest card speed in the camera, but rather to the card selected for recording.

Hmm, so your H264 mode is showing up in ML 1.2.3 and doesn't say that the .ini is missing?

I believe the h264 .ini file is only used for bit-rate override, so it's not required for shooting native h.264, just if you want to use a different bit-rate other than canon default.

So the 'error' message you are seeing is normal and you can shoot h.264 without the missing .ini file.
#119
Yeah, looks like you're installing ML, then removing the BOOT FLAG by waiting too long (>30 secs) before restarting your camera.

Do the install and restart the camera BEFORE the 30 secs runs out or you'll just end up back to square one ;)
#120
Hmmm... I use 3x crop a bit myself, but haven't noticed any dropped frames. How are you determining this? Is there a log or are you noticing it when viewing the footage?

Also, are you allowing frame skipping when this happens and are you trying to record faster than the camera can write to the card?
#121
Try resetting the black level, you can find how by searching forum ;)

Or, try a different app, like MLRawViewer.

I just ran a test with KB 32GB 1000x CF card on 5DM3, shot .mlv with 4GB files (not using exFAT format) until card full with no issues.

Are you using a build which has Reserve Card Space option (creates a mlv_rec.tmp file)?
#123
I just ordered 2 KB 64GB 1066x CF cards, I'll post results for 5DM3 once I get them.
#124
Exactly, for me I prefer many 4GB files over few large files for safety/practical reasons at this point.

I'm glad that with using exFAT format ML can break the 4GB file barrier and it was much appreciated before the apps could process multiple raw files automatically, but recently I've defaulted back to the 4GB file size.
#125
You're correct about FAT32 vs exFAT, but for now doing diagnostics, let's go step by step. I'm sure exFAT will be no problem, but when trying to find cause of issue, best to eliminate as many factors as possible.

Yes, I'm looking at that exact KB card myself, probably get one or two. Here's some talk about it: http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=11428.msg122802;topicseen#msg122802
