If you use Stellarium (or any other astronomic software) *and* think it over, you will see that the picture you shown contradicts nothing at all. Your picture shows the view you get if the Polar Star is in/near the center. However, if you have parts in the frame which are below the astronomic horizon equator you will get trails bending to the south.

Ciao, Walter

I must say i done some checks and u are right in some point.. looks like my star trails are always was done with Polaris in the midle.. so new expirence..

Personal i prefer more open shuter and long expo for star trails than procesing it with program he used..  here stars looks more  like comets ( damn clouds and pan starr ) and with not muche color .. but its always good to learn some new expirence about rotation

@Betelgueza
Its not a problem. I am used to Nikon`s way of selecting my focus points. In my opinion Canon`s way is slower and its more likely to miss a shot. If there was a chance to use my left hand to unblock the menu and my right to choose focus point the process will be much much faster (e.g. my initial proposal and Marsu42s generalized version)
I don`t like the camera choosing my focus point/s that is all!

i  using T3i and IF i using  AF in liveview its take ages to focus with AF. but when i using viewfinder and AF focus is set in same almost  moment when i push halfshuter button.no matter i usinng ML Paterns or no..by using paterns u can work with them to make focus or make own patters for your needs ..
but u can work with manual focus and use own eye like focus point. .. but im not sure if this is the point

I'm trying to use Nightly Builds on my 5D3. And I  have tried;

1- low level format in the camera,
2- adding fir file to SD Card( http://a1ex.magiclantern.fm/bleeding-edge/5D3/5D3-113-bootflag.fir )
3- download latest nightly build and copy to sd card
4- making card bootable on EOSCard
5- try to update .fir process in camera

But my 5D3 doesn't work with bootable card. It does not open. Tried without ML files and it's same. I guess when i make card bootable, camera does not recognize it. What did i wrong?

Thank you.

Edit: Of course using firmware 1.1.3

i dont have same camera as you have but  this is my way to start up lastest Nightly.. :

format card : in side Canon
upgrade Firmware : to my version ( version  my camera need to have )
put on card lastest Stable Magic Lantern 2.3V jun 2012 ( few mounts ago )
fun and experiments with ML 2.3 V ( all the time )

after some time :
I downloaded lastest  Nightly Version what was ( Autoexec.bin and ML folder + some 0 kb PDF and firmware ) i downloaded it  some 7 days ago so now its not lastest. file have some 4 mb + 1.4mb in ML folder or something.
ireplaced  autoexec.bin and ML Folder on my card where i was have instaled 2.3V  Version
i put again card to camera and i start it up ..
i push trash button i sean welcome screan from Magic Lantern Nightly Version . i push again some buttons on camera boody and i was ready to go..

i use this steps .. everything works  grate . but this is just sugestion from my expirence..in my case it works . but im not sure if this is fully right way to instaling it..

edit :

im not sure but i thing you need first upgrade firmware ( of course if u need ) and after this put on card ML .. so  first put firmware files on card . upgrad if  camera need .. and later when your camera upgrade firmware ( if need it ) just delete upgrading firmware file from card cuz i dont thing u need it on card any more after upgrading.. later put ML on Card and instal ML ..

Hi, I recently moved from Nikon to Canon and changing the focus point is a pain in the a** since i shoot all manual. I was wondering if there is a way to change the option of the preview button on the canon 550D (right below the flash button) to do the same function as the magnifier button that helps you change your focus point.
Thank you!

hi .. its second time when  isee some one have problem about this... can u tell me your expirence with this problem cus ( dont take me wrong )  i dont realy see problem in this..i mean not for me :/ .. why u need always showing for camera where u want have focus point ? just one ? or more than one point ? in Magic Lantern i discavered  Focus Patterns what is Pure Ownage  love to have way to add muche more patterns but those what are now are  Grate  and they  doing own  purpose very well..

I own some non canon zoom lenses, like the Tamron 24-70mm, and would like to use Peripheral Illumination Correction during video.

This cant be replicated in post production, because during video the aperture and focal distance is lost.

But we have the information available in programs like photoshop and lightroom. So is it possible to hack one of the Canon lens Peripheral Illumination Correction profiles I wont ever use, replace its contents with the details for the Tamron 24-70mm, and load that into the camera?
.

im not fully sure but maybe this  turtorial helps you :

in lastes digital photo professional 3.12.52.0 there is new cool feature called   Digital Lens Optimizer   but like for now this stuff not supporting low price lenses what is very  not good..but feature what they add to  DPP is grate competition for Light Room ,, most cool  features  from Light Room are now in DPP..

and question ... :

in EOS Utility  i can load  to camera Lens Profiles and  i got there all my two lenses profiles (in EOU Utility )..so  if im right  profiles from EOS Utility are same lenses profiles what in DPP ,, ?if yes . how i can transfer that profiles from EOS Utility to Photo Digital Professional  list ? list with profiles in DPP is automaticly loaded from Canon Server and not includiong  low price lenses  but EOS Utility got them some where in side program ...this is possible to transfer them ?

Hi! This is my first message on the forum.
I have been searching before posting this question, no results so far.

I have the chance to buy a cheap tamron 17-50 2.8 vc for my 550D, and I wonder if the Focus Racking works well with this lens.

Anyone has experience using it?

Regards!!

Xermán

alsow u can  have problem like impossible to  sharp long distance objects with  some older lenses and adapters..
cus u adding adapter and it change focus lenght ..this happend with some lenses when u adding adapters..

some person sugest for me look in to  lenses with :

M42 mounth
Olympus OM
Nikon F

all they are old lenses but like i was informed  when i add adapter  to my T3i (D600) i will not have problem with Focus Length  when i use lens with one of that mounth..

im not only sure how it looks with short lens..i was talk in that day about 300mm prime lens ,, maybe this problem about focus lenght not existe with  small lenses

Edit :
i know u got another camera but u can ask for this when u be ready to buy one older lens + adapter

Hi.
Hopefully someone can help or give his expertise.
I was shooting on the weekend with a 5d and magic lantern. The dop who own the camera installed it on 3cf cards. It was the first time he was using ml. He never had any trouble with the cards or the camera. On the first I checked that all the cards were fine. Putting them in the camera one by one and formatting them in camera. 2of them were good to go but one could not be formatted for some reason. I thought I check it later on a PC. the shoot went fine until after one backup. we only copied footage to the computer unmount correctly then try to format in camera but the card could not be formatted.
At the end of the day I try both failing cards and could not format the in camera or with the PC and one could not even be detected.

I was wondering if this was cause by magic lantern or defective cf card. It is very weird that both card failed after using ml knowing they never had trouble before. The do asked me to investigate as he is shooting next weekend and wonder if it s worth using ml.

Thank you for your help

I hope this is clear enough as English is not my language

check if your card is not Locked,, if yes just unlock it . u got small thing on card ..u can lock it or unlock..

When using a high quality b+w or heliopan filter with the best coating? I doubt you'd see the difference except for side-to-side comparison @100% crop and looking very closely. And 1-3 stops nd filters don't have the color cast (ir pollution) of the darker models either.

Edit: In addition, lowering the iso below the camera's base iso will worsen the iq, so you'll be better of with nd in any case...

i got two types.. ND one is Variable  from 1- 400  where 400 is totaly darkness i use them for sun spots ... but sharpnes in unacceptable for me.. so mostly i waith for some clouds what make for me natural  filter..

second  .. heliopan filter is not cheep so not everyone can get it..but if  are ok u can get for me  Hydrogen Alpha Tscaner filter and ill be fine with no ND`s

It's called nd filter :-) ... some canon cameras have iso50 for bright light + open aperture shots or long exposure, but that's also only one stop and it's the reverse of htp so it compresses highlights - for more you need a filter.

ND filters lowering sharpnes..
