Hello I have found GOBE compact flash over amazon. is it a new brand? I didn't know it.

in the product description they say "This CF Card is designed for High Performance DSLRs, Full HD 3D 4K video & hacked DLRs"

I need the 64GB version, there are 2 options: which is it better the UDMA6 or the UDMA7? the UDMA7 is a little bit cheaper than the UDM6 (this confused me).

https://mygobe.com/products/memory-cards/compact-flash-cards.html?storage_capacity=34

I need continuous shooting at 1920x1080 raw video on 7D. do you know if this CF will work? did someone has made a test?

thx!

I made a research those are the specs in bits per color for projection and blu-rays.

DCI specifies 12-bit per color for projection.

Blu-rays can output 8-bits per color.

as far as I know over windows we can not have a 12 bit codec maybe I'm wrong but the best is the DNxHR codec that is only 10 bit. if this info is correct we can not cover the DCI specifies with a PC windows?
#58
thx.

MLV is 14bit the export would be at 10bit. Is this bad?
how many bit are the commercial bluray movies? I wish to make all the workflow in davinci to export the file for a bluray, wich codec should I use for film industry?

maybe in film industry they export two versions of the same movie? one at 16 bit for cinema theatre and onther one at 8bit for bluray? thx

many tescam recorders have the safety track rec that record a second track at minus tot. db (should be -12db) this should be enough I hope (you should try). I did not wanted to tell this at first because I don't like to speak bad of a product and make free advertising to another.

[EDIT]
update.
the video test that I did is useless. I discovered the cable that I used for this test was broken/soldered strange and went in antiphase.
I will update you soon I'm going to make a new test with a new cable.

I'm tryng to find out a solution to bring the safety track rec for the Zoom H6.
Safety track allow to rec a second file at minus tot. db to prevent audio clipping. This can save the work if actors screams.
If actors scream using a limiter is not good because it compress the sound creating unnatural effect, something similar to a kazoo or a megaphone effect. so a professional recording tool should give you the possibility to have the safety track rec option to take two files with different decibel level recording. This will save the dynamic range of the voice if actors scream. And sometimes they will scream if you work in film industry.
So I decided to make a test with a Y cable and the Zoom H6 to find a diy solution but I failed the experiment. Current firmware is v2.0.
You can find my test here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eT2MlOBvDmk
This test show that is impossible to have a working safety track rec for phantom powered mics on the Zoom H6.
Firmware v2.0 does not allow safety track rec for phantom powered mics.
I wrote to Zoom company to ask this feature in the next firmware update, it's the only solution.
The external unit Zoom EXH-6 will not solve this problem because it does not provide any phantom power.

Please guys if possible write to Zoom to ask them to implement the safety track in the zoom H6 channel 1-4 for phantom powered mics.

how many bit have DNxHR? 10 bit? thx

I'm trying to make a little test. I'm in low light ambient. If I press "set" for the ETTR there is a bip and than a message on the screen of my 7D that say "Expo limit reached".
When there is this message it means that the technique will not work?

thx

thx for your help. I'm a little bit confused sorry.
I have read the Alex post that say: " You can easily find an image that is not overexposed in RAW, but is overexposed by about 1 stop (sometimes more) in JPEG/H.264."

this mean that I must use different values/settings in the zebra menu if I shoot in RAW video instead that if I shoot in H.264? I have not found the specific settings for RAW video in the topic that you posted. can you help me to find out please? RAW video can reach 255 so I must setup overexposure at 255 (100%) in the zebra menu? so the default values of the zebra menu are wrong if I want to use zebra for RAW video? the default are overexposure set at 99% (252).

thanks a lot,

Dan

Can you help me to decide which new shock mount to buy for my boom pole please?

the alternatives are (price is similar)

1) ⁣⁣⁣⁣

2)

//The image width tag works wonders.  We don't need to see at the microscopic level with images 10 trillion pixels wide ;)  Audionut.

ML default setting should be "LumaFast, over 99%".
If i press Q I have access to the settings.

Color Space: Luma Fast; RGB; Luma.
Underexposure: Disabled; from 1% (3) to 20% (51).
Overexposure: 70% (179) to 100% (255); Disabled
When recording: hide/show
Use RAW Zebras: Photo only; always; Off
Raw zebra underexposure: off; 0ev to 4ev.

which are the suggested settings for shooting raw video?

thx!

I bought the rode SM4 and I'm sending it back to amazon because what was written in the first post was true (the review that I found over amazon). I will buy the Rycot soon and I will update this topic with my impressions. :)
With SM3 and Rode NTG3 the the mic can fall if it is not connected to the xlr cable, this is 100% true.

I discovered there are almost two different tech of shock mounts.

the first one is this kind:

the second one is this:

which one will work the best for a hand held boompole in the field?
will the second one (second image) provide a good anti vibration isolation as the rubber band (first image)?

for field recording I mean hand held non static boom pole. the mount must be really solid. if it is not the mic will lose its position and it could eventually "try" to fall (it's connected with the cable so it should not).
for example try to read the one star review here.

quote:

"When I pay top dollar for a Rode product I expect it to work in a professional environment and this product has been a disappointment. Yes, it does isolate the handling noise of a boom pole quite well but the rubber bands do not support the weight of my Rode NTG-3 mic. The mic sags in the bands and tends to fall out of the mount in use. Good thing the mic cable was still holding the mic or my mic would have crashed to the ground several times. Plus, you look like a fool when you flub the take because your mic slid out of the mount. I even wrapped a rubber band around the mic base to "catch" on the mount's rubber and the mic still slid out of the mount. This mount sort of works on a static boom but is pretty much worthless on a hand held boom pole."

Thanks for your suggestion Walter. Do you have experienced those Y cables? doesn't it introduce more noise?

thx a lot.

Hello guys, can you help me to understand better this feature about the Tescam DR60dMKII please?

There should be an option to have a backup file recorded at minus decibel to prevent clipping. On Tescam wesite they wrote: DUAL MONO and DUAL STEREO mode:Records a back-up safety track in case levels are set too high and clipping occurs. The safety track can be set to record from -6dB to -12dB below the initial take. If an actor suddenly screams a line, you have a backup recording that isn't distorted.

source: http://tascam.com/product/dr-60dmkii/

Does this feature works also with phantom power mics (for example rode ntg3)? thx so much. :)

I ask this because for example my Zoom H6 does not have this safe rec option for external phantom power mics. Zoom H6 have this option only with the module EXH6 (sold separately). the problem is this. surprice: the module EXH6 does not allow phantom power.... So this recorder is useless if you use a phantom power mic with actors that can scream (so in my case is useless and I must sell my Zoom H6 and buy the tescam, if the safe rec works with phantom power).

http://www.amazon.it/EXH-6-Doppio-ingresso-Combo-Zoom/dp/B00TB297WU/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1426670829&sr=8-10&keywords=zoom+h6

I'm really in worry with Zoom, I also wrote to the company (an email) they said it's like I said: I can not have a backup rec to minus db with this device if I use a phantom power mic also with the EXH6 module. I wish to do not sell my Zoom H6 but unfortunatelly I have not enough money for both (zoom and tescam). I asked them for a firmware update they said:

To enable them, it is necessary to load more expensive CPU onto the unit. Anyway your opinion has been noted. Although we do not want a price boost by the increase in functions, we will forward your email to the development team for future reference.

So if you want to take audio for cinema or theatre/any actor performance, and you want to use a phantom power professional mic, do not buy Zoom H6. Unless you can ask to your actors to be quiet.

@DeafEyeJedi not yet.

@Walter I didn't know it, I posted my video also on Issue 2173 I hope it will be fixed. Do you think is dangerous to do a work with this bug (using movie restart)? Do you believe there is the danger to lost my data? I use so much "movie restart" for work is often essential (it was the first reason why I installed ML).
I really wish to do not downgrade my ML firmware because I wish to use the most updated ML RAW video module. I do not know if it's me but with the lastest version I had better performance with my 60mb/s 16gb sandisk card, I can now record MLV at max resolution no crop mode (for about 23 seconds then it stops). I hope to have the money for a bigger card soon to make some job with it. I'm studyng Lightroom and DaVinci to understand how to grade it. It's awesome. :)

hello guys I wanted to ask which is it the right session of the forum to post magic lantern bugs? I wish to do not do cross post bacause I already started a topic in "General Q&A". But iI need people to do a little experiment and there nobody reply me.
Maybe I posted in the wrong session and I had to post here? I had problems with Nightly.2014Oct08.7D203 and Nightly.2015Jan03.7D203. I really need for you guys to try to reply my actions on your camera, bacause I wish to understand it this bug is for all, or only on my camera.
Can I ask to a moderator the permission to do a little "cross post" for once? If is not possible I will edit this post.
the bug should be in the "movie tweaks/ movie restart" option, bacause if I turn it off the bug stop. if I turn on again "movie restart" the bug come back.
this is a video of the problem.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UNjAuBY0Do&list=UUSXF-xJlFBpj52lhmKXcO_A
can you do the experiment and post the result here please?

I wish to tell that with the Nightly.2014Oct08 the bug was not present with a fresh installation, it come out only after using the camera for a while (expecialy if I used ML Raw video and then come back to h.264). So I had this bug after one or two weeks, where the option "movie restart" was always ON, and I switched from RAW video to H.264.

Different story with the new firmware Nightly.2015Jan03, here the bug started since the first power on of the camera.

really thanks a lot for help if it's possible! :)

Hello guys, I have found the latest build: magiclantern-Nightly.2015Jan03.7D203

This relase also have the same bug. Is me the only one who have this bug? I mean is my camera or is the relase? Thanks a lot!

p.s. please if you have a 7D try to select "movie tweaks" in "magic lantern menu", then select "movie restart". try to start and stop a video rec please. will it go in loop?

thanks for testing with me!
