You could also desctibe your issues here. What preset used causing those issues and even upload your SETTINGS folder for us to reproduce.

I didn't want to bother you because I know you're a busy guy and I thought you was taking a break from the 5d3 stuff.  If I can recreate it I will try to take a picture of it.  It's been a few different things all in the newer 5k anamorphic mode, like full on pink distorted frozen screen, another issue a error pops up on the screen that looks more like from the canon side of things, and other occasions of a hard freeze within a few frames. fps override is off on all issues, but I will try to recreate them, I was just worried that the canon error may have been super bad. lol

15 august and 13 sept. both for 1.1.3

https://we.tl/t-Mc6onjR8Zu

but the recent one is more stable you know, less bugs.

I agree, I just wanted to test out a few things, the latest build has gave me some weird issues that's I've never encountered before, lot of battery pulls, but I'm not sure if it's the build, something in the settings being off, or the camera dying on me lol

thank you for the links :)

anybody have a copy of the build from BEFORE Oct. 17th?

any 5d3 w/danne build VS R5 raw videos in the wild? or would anybody be able to make one?  sorry if this has been discussed already.

there is a facebook page (MLV RAW ON EOS M) that's intention was to help with troubleshooting minor issues instead of clogging up the board.  no need for all the drama here.

has anyone else experienced blacked out playback as if something went wrong with recording, but when loaded into MLVApp the image is there?  I've been noticing this the past few builds, I've tested and changed various settings/resolutions to see if I had accidently turned something off, but every shot comes back blank.  The liveview before shooting is there, just no playback.

sorry if this has been discussed already, i'm short on time so I just jumped to the end of the thread to ask. :)

Is it possible to record audio on any of the raw settings? I know the more demanding presets like Ana etc. you can't, but is it possible mv1080 or 2.5k? I ask because I rarely see sound brought up in recent builds and the videos people post are silent.

I personally find the audio SUPERB, even just the on board mic. here is an older build test that has a lot of good raw audio, what blew me away was all the nature sounds I was capturing while not even thinking twice about it while out shooting. If I ever needed some nature sound fx, I would be comfortable with the M getting the job done. lol

A few suggestions for EOS M (and ML in general)

There is undoubtedly a big difference in experience between ML users (in terms of technical knowledge and/or years of usage), which is why I would suggest the following (for both ease of use, and to try and avoid getting the same questions again and again):

Startup modes
If technically possible (and I would assume so), I would suggest creating 'startup modes'. Three perhaps:

  • Simple
  • Intermediate
  • Advanced
These would basically be pre-set customised menus (with default set at simple).
Simple = would show as little as possible: main feature being the presets scripts, some photo options (bracketing for example) etc.
(Makes ML easier to use, and avoids changes that cause issues..)
Intermediate = would obviously show more features. To be discussed...
Advanced = would show everything.
(+ The build zip files should perhaps include a small 'install & how to' txt/pdf file to ensure the canon menu is set the right way).

maybe in an alternative build, but I wouldn't want this extra stuff in a main build

wow, that's a nice fix :)  Shame BMD never could in earlier cameras. lol although to be fair, there are other cinema cameras plagued with it.

this isn't FB with notifications, so you'll have to check back from time to time ;) Just thought i'd let you know rather than you wait for info updates that never come.

How are you achieving continuous recording in that resolution? I've never got more than a couple seconds before it stops.  The sample you posted is 1920x1080

Could you make the group open?

Yes, but I'd prefer not to for a few different reasons.  Main reason is to keep spam/advertising bots from being a nuisance, along with real people trying to promote junk or scams.  Another reason is occasionally when a post is made within an open group, it will show up on non members timelines saying "_____ posted in the group MLV on EOS M".  I'm sure that's facebook's automatic way of trying to help the groups population grow, but then the next thing you know peoples grandmothers will be posting in the group asking how to fix her TV, or somebody's friend popping in just to be a troll to some degree.  I could come up with a couple other reasons, but those are the main ones.  One other reason would be if somebody is wanting feedback on a project they're working on, they may want to try and keep it private from public viewing until it's complete.

And there is a reddit and Petapixel and there are DPReview forums and Miranda forums andandand. Sounds legit to open a few more, they are all clogged.

I use none of those forums.  PetaPixel is more or less click bait now days, I've never even heard of Miranda.  Can you upload videos to any of the above sites or would it require linking to YouTube or Vimeo? I'll also go out on a limb and say the response to a question on facebook is quicker than all of the above.  Like I said earlier, if facebook isn't your thing, disregard the post, unnecessary sarcasm has never solved a problem.  Forgive me for trying to leave this topic open to more advanced users and developers,  I personally don't like to scroll through 20 questions of somebody trying to load ML on an SD card when all I'm really looking for is the latest build's discussion and the changes pertaining to that build.  If I myself have a basic question, I would hate to ask it on here just to get some kind of sarcastic response...it solves nothing.

For those that are new to ML or old timers, just a reminder there is a dedicated facebook group for MLV on EOS M with plenty of knowledgeable users that can help answer a majority of basic troubleshooting questions.  I'm only posting this reminder to let people know there are other ways to find an answer that doesn't involve clogging up the development discussion.  Of course, if it's a possible bug needing to be reported, the ML forum would be the right place.  If facebook isn't your thing, disregard this post. lol

Duplicate Questions / C100

Welcome to the fascinating world of reverse engineering!

I know canon has forbid ML developers from touching the C line (or so I've been told) but are there any rumors of rumors of anything EVER being developed for say, a c100.  The more the price drops on the c100 and the more polished ML becomes...the camera God's should allow it into existence.  8)  ML on the M is a better image than 85% of the video cameras/dslr's they have in production or ever produced, so I'm not sure why they would care at this point.  I'd literally buy a c100 tomorrow if there was a ML build for it. lol

Can you send me samples of what you shoot ?

This card can record 4k in EOS m50, though I know it is 8 bit. I do not understand why it would not record 40 mb/s data in ML eos m.

HUGE difference in 8bit 4k and RAW.  A completely different beast, it's pretty much the purpose of ML.

This is the card I am using.

I just can not record 4k resolution without lower half pink frame after 1 min, and it starts to skip frames after 40 seconds or so. I am using 5k anamorphic mode and I tweak the settings to 16:9 in croprec and 2.35:1 in 5k anamorphic settings, then max the resolution which equals to 3500x1500 when strectched. I was able to record 4464x1900 resolution (when strecthed) but now I can not achieve it again and I do not remember which mode I have used to record it.

Which mode is best for recording 4k ?

I'm not sure if using a microSD, especially one of that speed, will be able handle what you're trying to throw at it, especially depending on what other settings you have set within ML.  I think most people use the ExtremePro 95MBs cards, wheras I think your card is 30MBs.

Do you know which cards required to record 4k ? I am complaining about the this latest build, I am new to ML and I thought I could record clean 4k footage with my original M after all this years.

crop_rec_4k_mlv_snd_isogain_1x3_presets_2019Mar29.EOSM202

which card are you using? everything it says on the front, or just take a pic of it.

which build is being complained about?  I've not shot a ton with the latest, but I've not seen any anything unusual yet.  I also try and stick with the settings I know are stable with my card.  I have a feeling, most of the people complaining are more than likely trying to run settings their card can't handle.

I don't want this to come across as advertising, because this ain't that. lol
but if anybody has any "noob or newbie" questions, the facebook group I started may be a better place to ask "getting started" type questions instead of the development thread.  There are also several videos people have shared of what they've shot with the M and I'm sure there are more on the way.  Any and all are welcome :) if not allowed, delete.

The greenish tint in liveview while recording is gone! now it looks like a vintage 70's LUT, which is fine by me.  :P
