General Help Q&A / Stack Focus
November 01, 2012, 03:29:09 AM
How do I increase the of frames?  I have tried steps 1, 2, and 3.  Still get only 1 or  2 snaps.

Could you provide me the steps used in Aperture brackting?

I download the latest nightly and still have problems using stack and cannot find Aperture bracking in the menu.

Cannot find a way to control the number of pictures that are snapped.  Get one or two.  Changed step to 1,2, and 3, with no change.  Even if it says + or - steps from end point.

I cannot find documentation that gives you step by step procedures that work.  Am I the only one that is having problems?

I use a SIGMA DC 50-200.  I guess I found it does not work it manual mode.

How can I increase the amount of fames?  I have tried steps 1,2 and 3 and still get only 2 pic or 1,  with focus end point -17.  I tried using HDR with stack and software CombineZP, more pics, but out  of focus and over exposed.

Is this the lens that causes this?

The older version worked better.

Have a 550D with SIGMA DC 50-200, niffy 50mm( lens pop out) , EF 35-70.  My other lenses are w/o AF that wont with ML stack, I guess.

General Help Q&A / Stack Focus not the same
October 25, 2012, 05:20:46 PM
I downloaded the latest "nighty" and now have trouble with Stack.

The buttons, right and left, and wheel just does the normal stuff - like changing menus.

Tried different a couple of the instructions on the forum, but no help.

What have I deleted, added, or changed to make this happen?

I have got a collection of Sears/Pentax that I use on my 550D.  135/2.8, 50/1.7, 28/,  35-70/3.5, 50/2.0, 200/4.0, and 28/2.8.
Average price around $10 a piece.
My canon lens just don't hold up.  My sears lens well made (metal and glass), crisp, and easy focus (manually of course) and works great with ML.  Just have to manual focus which  I perfer and use an adapter with chip.

I believe ML is only for the Canon.

Why do you need a cheat sheet when everything is included.  Small hints by hitting the DISP BUTTON  (next to MENU) or the complete documentation in HELP menu and "About Magic Lantern".

Hope this is some help.

It worked for a while then off again.  After reseaching the parts diagram, I am missing the tiny spacers.  Proable cause of my problem.

I found this to work.

1. activate the follow focus from the focus magic lantern menu
2. switch the liveview on
3. now you have live view with the FF++ FF-- on the screen. Now you go to the focus you want to use to start (you can go manually, or with autofocus, or using the arrow keys (up a down go fast, left and right more precise adjustments).
4. When you are on the starting focus point for you stack, return in the magic lantern menu, and  go to focus end point, and press set.
5. now you are again in live view and should have something like: Focus End Point: 0, not configured
6. use the main wheel (not the one on the back, but the one you use for the shutter time, the one near to the shutte button. If you turn clockwise the focus point go near you, if counterclockwise the focus goes far from you (i use always this, because i set first the nearest point of focus, but it can works in all the 2 ways).
7. when you turn the wheel you can see the on screen text changing, and saying the number of steps between the start point and where you are (for example it says: Focus End Point: +18 steps from here)
8. When arrived on the last point of focus, go again in the ml menu, go to rack focus, and then press "set" (i don't know if this part is really needed for focus stacking, but is useful to see if the range is correct, because the focus returns from the last point to the first that you have selected in point 4.
9. when the rack focus is finished and you are again in the starting point, simply go again in ml menu, set Stack focus to snap and then you are ready for taking the shots. You take the first, and magic lanter do the rest.

Did you do a complete format, not low level, on all cards in the camera?

After trying several things to limit the range of focus, I noticed that one of the snaps of the front lens was broken.

Since I figured I had nothing to loose, I put a small drop of crazy glue (gel type) on the place where it was broken and snapped it back on.

Turned the lens face down on the table and let it set for an hour.    Put it on the camera on started shoot close and far and inbetween.  Has not popped yet so maybe that will work.  Let you know after a longer trial what happens.

You mean do a firmware update with Eyefi with ML install on it?  If so, it sticks on "loading".

I have read that using an older ver of ML might work.  But that was with and older firmware ver on Eyefi.  Might give it a try.

Added info

Removed ML bootflag.  Loaded Eyefi and took a pic ...it worked.

Went to Firmware menu and tried to load ML.  It looked like it was going to work,  the it was stuck on "loading".  Did a battery reset and it reverted to Canon and Eyefi software.

I loaded ML on Eyefi.  Used EOS and put bootflag on the card.  Loaded ML from other card.  Removed cardwith ML and put in Eyefi card.  It will not run.

If I use EOScard to set bootflag you think it might work?  ML flies are on the Eyefi card.

Thanks Alex

I lifted off the M/A Switch and tighten down the metal stop.  There seems to be no way to adjust.  Do you move it up closer to the rear?

Yes, its the nifftyfifty.  I have had two of them.  I have tried to repair but I think I must have losted the tiny plastic spacer or something.

I have a problem with the front lens poping out.  It snaps back in and works fine.  Is there a cure?  I have a 550D and have done minor lens repair, but can't figure this one out.

I guess I found part of my problem.  Use the "firmware update process" to remove bootflag.  Installed ML on Eyefi card and still does not recognize ML.

General Help Q&A / Eye-Fi card not working
August 30, 2012, 03:23:55 PM
I read that ML and Eye-Fi may be used together.  Past attemps failed before the new version.
Remove ML from my 550D.  Inserted Eyefi after doing battery reset.  Blank screen.  Tried several time using the same procedure.  Nothing.

I have the  4GB Connect X2.

How do I get the Eyefi back?
#73
I use the "wave" function under the Shoot menu.  Just wave over the viewfinder sensor 3 x and it snaps.

I think he is asking for help.  I have searched forums, menus, instructions, ...dah dah.  and sometimes you just dont get it.  If you want to make a fortune then write a ML for Dummies.

Thanks Alex.
Looking for red flags at the bottom is the clue.   After "go out of ML , hit Disp, remove canon menu" things really turned on.

There has got to be a fortune to be made for someone to write a ML for Dummies.
