What if you align to 4096.

Yeeeeah I'll do that and then fall asleep

So I'm finding that the 5D Mark 2 and 5D Mark 3 with the built in formatting will format CF cards to FAT32 with an offset of 31K and I believe an allocation of 16K

31K of course making the CF card not aligned..aligning the partition with an offset of 32K with an allocation of 16K appears to be giving me a ~10MB/s read speed increase but a ~10MB/s write decrease

FAT32 seems to be easier for me to troubleshoot myself seeing as there are way less options
I'll keep messing with it

KomputerBay 32GB 1000x - exFAT 1024 Offset - 64K Alloc - 1 hour

with these tests I was reading a forum that was saying a 1024 offset was a good start point and a 64K allocation would give performance increases, curious as to how these benchmarks compare to my last benchmark

nice to see the information out on the chart
im noticing that my two transcend benchmarks have a difference of about 10MB/s but by doing the partition alignment

Ill go ahead and rerun the benchmarks with different alignments to see how the results vary

I'm still not 100% on what the "correct" or ideal settings are
what to set the align offset at or the chunk size

All of the drives I see are aligned x*(4096).. my HDDs and SD cards.

My Komputer Bay 64 GB 1000x wasn't aligned, maybe the Komputer Bay 128 GB 1000x isn't aligned and that's why it has such slow benchmarks?

For the record I only think I did realignment right
I set the partition alignment and allocation to 4096k, but the 5D Mark 2 refused to read any of my cards in any format other than FAT32

Messing with partition alignment and noticing some speed increases
can anyone else confirm that the 5D mark 2 cant read exFat formatted cards?
or am I the only one having trouble with this

5D3 and T2i read exFat fine but my 5D2 wont

So is the card stress test a priority or the card random buffer test?

also would the results very much from camera to camera?
because I'm currently running three tests simultaneously

I'm really surprised that the 5D mark 2 can handle any of this considering video was added in a firmware update and people have said the cpu was too slow to handle 60 FPS...yet here it is recording 24fps RAW video

Damn.

If the 5D mark 2 can handle this I have no doubt in my mind we will see the whole canon dslr line up shooting raw in the future

but if you try to convert a corrupted file directly to the .exe and it fails it just flashes up and closes, if you add a pause to the .bat you can see the error code

It even works without the batch-file ;)

Really? it wasn't working for me, although it might be because the .RAW files I tried were corrupted...

I cant really contribute much to the cause..but if it helps a way to help automate the raw2dng process:

1. create a .bat
2. paste in the location of your raw2dng.exe   (ie. mine is C:\Users\John\Desktop\RawFootage\raw2dng.exe)
3. add %~n1.raw to the end of the line   (ie. C:\Users\John\Desktop\RawFootage\raw2dng.exe %~n1.raw)

this allows you to simply drag n drop the .raw onto the .bat and immediately convert without having to open a cmd and type anything

Hope this helps

Is there a link we can go to for donating to the developers?
Lets not forget to support the developers, they are really doing some amazing things here

and with the recent increase in attention and the current project there is no reason not to donate

Feature Requests / Re: Video/Audio Sync Beep
January 20, 2013, 01:14:43 AM
In my free time I shoot local musicians perform free live shows at local coffee shops
I set up a Zoom H4n sound recorder as a room mic to record high quality live audio and I sit a few feet away in the audience with a ~50mm ~85mm focal length recording an hour to an hour and a half with cuts in between each song to save card space

For what I do I could see the benefit of a feature that would emit a beep from the camera when I press record to assist with syncing in post

Yes I could just sync with sounds from the room, or by using plugins, but I just thought I would suggest this rather small gimmicky feature in the feature request section
If this is too pointless of a feature I understand

Feature Requests / Video/Audio Sync Beep
January 02, 2013, 03:25:40 PM
I noticed that the nightly builds have a magic lantern beep in the menu for testing purposes
(I think this is also there in the 7D and 5D MK3 alpha)

Would It be possible to enable some kind of video feature that emits a quick beep sequence at the beginning of video recordings to take the place of a clap board/slate?

What are you thoughts?
maybe the beep wouldn't be sufficient in being a sync but maybe a fast enough and loud enough beep would do the trick
this would really help with run-n-gun one man shows where syncing with an audio recorder might otherwise be troublesome
