@Luthor @Tupp

Let's remember that all the development work and distribution packaging is being done by people who aren't getting paid for it and doing it in their spare time. So how about we stop the pissing contest.

@Luthor If you feel that strongly that MLVAPP should be distributed via a packaging tool then: perhaps put your hand up and volunteer to take ownership of packaging and distributing the app for the developers unpaid in your spare time.

If not, then I think your suggestions have been heard load and clear. However at the end of the day it is up to the developers to decide on their distribution process.

I've been using a DLINK NAS for many years now. Capacity is 4 TBs in raid 5 configuration. it's always on and set up to spin down the drives when not in use and to perform a health check of each drive monthly. The individual drives are hot swappable in the event of failure and will automatically rebuild the data on the replacement HD. And, because you can never have too many backups, all my important data/images etc are backed up to external USB HDDs.

Effectively back-up solutions are so cheap nowadays that there really isn't any excuse to lose your data anymore.

Welcome aboard.

To answer your question.  Yes (assuming that one can downgrade 1100D firmware).

Note that ML will not load if the camera has an unsupported firmware version.

2) Is there any way to get rid of black window during render procedure? And maybe minimize main program window? They interfere with other programs.

Assuming that you are on the current Windows 10, Try running it in its own desktop. All associated processes should be self contained within that desktop instance and not interfere your main desktop processes.

Window key / Tab Key to create an additional desktop.

Switch to and run the app in the new desktop. I would expect that when running a time consuming processes like a batch export or importing a lot of files: that those process will run fine in the background if you switch back to your main desktop to do other activities.

Could you put MLV App on a different virtual desktop in windows?

Yes, it works fine.

@Alex / @Dfort,

Can I please have a reminder on the testing process and I will test it on my 7D-1. and will advise the results.

If anyone missed it 5D2 10 bit 3K raw video is a reality !
Another Pipe Dream comes true  8)

So cool Reddeercity, persistence and perseverance really paid off.

@Bouncyball @kanakori

It's because of the clip is not detected as dualiso

I have a 7D mk1 and can't do dual_ISO video but I have experienced the same effect with stills when I had Dual_ISO and ETTR enabled and,

"Link to Dual_ISO" was enabled in ETTR

Occasional ETTR would override my alternate ISO and make both ISOs the same. None of the processing programs available would see the images as Dual_ISO and I would be able to see the horizontal lines in the image.

Hope this sheds some light onto what may be happening.

MLV_Rec records sounds, MVL_Lite does not.

Test results for - 7D

- Load any MLV or REC record module. Don't activate MLV/RAW in movie tab.
- Run EOS Utility and connect cam to PC via USB.
- Activate Liveview option in EOS Utility.
-> EOS Utility will show Liveview as expected. Yes to Liveview - photo mode and movie mode

- Disconnect USB and activate MLV/REC option in movie tab.
- Run EOS Utility
- Connect cam to PC via USB and try to establish Liveview.
-> Liveview button will not work as expected. -> Fail to Liveview - movie mode
-> Liveview is working -> Pass to Liveview - photo mode

You mean a Windows version?

Yes,  NP i'm patient.

Just had a look at v0.7 cross platform.  The download zip file is for MAC only. IS an x86 build on its way?

Just unzip the application to a location of your choice and run the app directly.

Everything that it needs is self contained within its folder.

I tested an MLV clip with sound last night. w10 64bit version.

Video exported fine, however there is no sound and/or no separate audio file created.

When reviewing the app preferences Export Audio is ticked but greyed out.

This is the first time that I have ever downloaded and tried the app so I wasn't doing any serious testing. I really just wanted to confirm that the versions that you provided the links for were working.

The actual file only had a few hundred frames captured when testing the 10/12bit raw recording on my 7D as I didn't have access to anything larger on the night.

Playing around with it tonight and it seems to be handling spanned files >4gb without any problems.

Both versions working fine with a small sample file. I don't have anything larger than 4gb anyway so I wouldn't have picked up reddeercity's error.

One option that would be really useful would be a button to reset the sliders back to their default settings.

A couple of questions if I may:

  • Edit settings are not captured at the clip level - is this intentional?
  • We can choose which codec  to export in and whether to include sound or not. What is the default export frame rate and can this be turned into a user definable parameter?

Just some feedback

I tried both the 32 and 64 bit versions of the app today on a W10 Professional Notebook.

Unfortunately I get the following error on both versions:

"This application fails to start because it could not find or load the Qt platform plugin "windows" in "". Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."

After acknowledging the error message I get the following (which is probably normal due to the original error):

Runtime Error!

[Path]/MLVP App.exe

The application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

+1 here with a 7D. Can't code but can test.

I'm sure that there are plenty of lurkers waiting for something exciting to happen that they can assist with.

Or, you could just ask the questions....

Or you can use MLVP.

MLV Producer is a Windows based product. If you want it on a MAC, emulation is the only way.

10/12bit Testing

Camera 7D
ML Build: magiclantern-raw_video_10bit_12bit.2017Jan02.7D203 (DFort's)

Modules Loaded:   Fileman, mlv_rec, mlv_play, mlv_snd, pic_view & raw_twk

DNG's Extracted using mlv_dump (07/01/2017 build), parameters used --dng --cs2x2
Post processing/editing of extracted dngs - none.

Results of 10bit test using mlv_rec

Frame 000000 looks good with no colour casts, hot/cold pixels etc.
Frame 000001 looks good with no colour casts, hot/cold pixels etc.
Frame 000002 Has the top 1/3 of the image distorted and barely discernable as an image.
The bottom  2/3rds of the image look good.
Frame 000003 Same as frames 000000 and 000001.
frame 000004 Same as frame 000002

All subsequent  pairs of frames i.e: 000005&000006, 000007&000008 etc. behave the same as frames 000003&000004.

What is actualy happening here?  from what I can see:

1) All of the frames that have the top 1/3 distorted are a combination of the actual image that should be within that frame and a static image that is constantly repeating and overwriting the actual image. Having shuffled through the frames I believe that it is the distorted part of the frame that is the actual image for the respective frame. The undistorted part is likely from frame 000000.

2) Apart from frame 000000, all of the frames that are distortion free is actually a static image repeating itself. Likely from frame 000000.

Results of 12bit test using mlv_rec

Frame 000000 has the top 1 cm of the image displaced a few pixels to the right but is otherwise OK.
Frame 000001 has the top 1cm corrupted with the balance of the image looking normal
Frame 000002 No Corruption and the image looks normal.
Frame 000003 On first glance looks normal but upon closer inspection it is in fact corrupted. It is in fact a blended image with the top 1 cm of the image being
from one image and the balance from another (statc image).
Frame 000004 No Corruption and the image looks normal.
Frame 000005 Like frame 000003 it is a blended image with the top 1 cm of the image being from one image and the balance
                       from another (static image).

All subsequent  pairs of frames i.e: 000006&000007, 000008&000009 etc. behave the same as frames 000004&000005.

What is actually happening with the 12bt mlv? It is similar but different to what is happening with the the 10bit mlv.  For the 12bit mlv, the first two frames 000000&000001 are corrupt. From there on in every odd numbered frame is corrupt (a static repeating image) whilst every even numbered frame is ok. I proved this by:

   - Deleting all of the odd numbered dng frames.
   - Imported the even numbered dng frames in PowerDirector (corrupt frame 000000 is included)
   - Exported to an 1920 x 1080p mpeg4 video.

File Links

The below links are extracts from the original 10 and 12bit mlv files and contain 24 frames each. Also I have add ed link to the 12 bit video generated from PowerDirector.

10bit mlv extract -

12bit mlv extract -

MPEG4 from 12bit (even numbered frames) -

Hopefully this helps the devs get a step closer to resolving the 10/12bit raw for the 7D.
