About Dual Iso, g33g0 told me that the file header doesnt contain any information about it.. so there will not be an automatic detection for now.. when I implement it, you'll have to select which files are dual and which now... will be tricky and will have to expand the UI a lil bit I guess...
Hi Tony ,in order to select manually which footage is dual iso, maybe the thumbnail could be bigger, so we could notice the lines and use a special dual iso checkmark for it?  What do you think?

I believe he fixed it in 1.7.1

70% of the original size is already a great gain. Is there a downside using this method over the "normal" one ?
It should be the same thing, it optimize the file size without degrading the quality, that's what lossless means.

Maybe we can hope for a v2.0 with dual-iso! omg omg! :O

And, the prefix, you can take it off!! Just delete it and use the project name instead, or backwards..
When I try to delete the prefixe, it comes back by itself once I clic somewhere else.

It'll be HEAVEN to do all of the workflow directly in premiere... though.. what about Adobe Camera Raw? You loose it completely? Is it better that way? The color handling and highlight recovery is unique!
Yes if ACR can be in the process it's great! what's bad is having to go through AE or Resolve for files conversion to be able to open it in premiere.

And Yeah! Send me a dual iso file!!! :)
There you go : https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2478549/MLV_DUALISO_100-800.rar
Here is a .rar containing dual iso footage .dng processed with MLV converter, you can see it looks like interlaced footage, dual iso setting was 100/800iso. You'll just need to select all of the .dng and drop them onto cr2hdr.exe included in the folder. The .dng will become .DNG, and the lines will go away. Then you can open it in ACR and you'll see how well you can recover the shadow.

Hi Tony, Thanx a lot for making MLV converter, I have read through the 6 pages, and it's cool to see how dedicated you are doing this and updating it like you do! Thumbs up!

I just downloaded it and tested it, my 2 cents:

- the UI is cool, it could maybe benefit from a drag&drop feature (though it's cool that we can save the settings).

- the naming is nice but I have to agree with CoresNZ, it's a bit long.

MLV_PROJECT_A001_280508_C00009_f000000.dng
could become
PROJECT_A1_280508_C00009_f00000.dng

taking away the MLV, and 2 digits off of the card number since nobody got more than 9 CF x1000 (or maybe just take off 1 digit), and 1 digit off the frame number since 34560 frames is 24 minutes of RAW 1080p 24fps. (it's around the max possible with a 128Go).

- proxies don't work for me too. (v1.7)
I got some errors sometimes, check here : https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2478549/proxie%20error.txt

- the overall processing is slow, but like you said it has nothing to do with you. I checked the task manager while converting, and none of the app used in the process uses hyperthreading or multicore:
I have 4 core cpu with hyperthreading and I get this :
Dcraw used 13% max of my CPU
Adobe dng converter : 7%
mlv_dump : 11%
I didn't see ffmpeg
hopefully mlv_dump will get faster in the future.

- the .dng don't open at all in Premiere.
Before trying out .mlv I was using raw_rec and I was using raw2cdng.1.4.8.exe to convert the RAW to .dng and since the update of Premiere 7.1 in november it can import .dng, but we all had a pink cast over our footage!! (because adobe only bothered importing well the .dng coming out of the BMCC)
So chmee from this thread make a fix to take away that pink cast and it works fine now, he called it partymode, check it here: http://www.phreekz.de/wordpress/2013/06/magiclantern-raw2cdng-cinema-dng/

the thread is here : http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=5618.375

It would be great if MLV converter could have a similar partymode/Premiere checkbox as an option for those who wants to go directly in Premiere. Maybe you could check with Chmee how he did it in his raw2cdng ?
here are some of my .dng with that partymode : https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2478549/140128_1211_M281211H.rar

My DNG workflow would be :
1- MLV converter (Loseless, ACR profile/LUT)
2- Premiere import DNG & wav
3- Speedgrade
4- Premiere render

Or Prores 4444 workflow :
1- MLV converter
Prores 4444 export only (delete the DNG).
   embedded sync with audio
2- Premiere import
3- Speedgrade
4- Premiere render

About Dual-iso, I'll be happy to send you some MLV files done with Dualiso if you want to check that out.

Thanx again.

Hi chmee, have you seen this thread of a new MLV converter : http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=10198.0

I think that you and tonybeccar should join force to unify both of your apps.

since MLV got not the sound + this new MLV converter, many people are moving to .MLV

This converter is working fine with just few bugs with proxies. What this converter is missing is the partymode that you created! and it misses dragndrop also.
I guess just like MLdevs are working together to make ML, you guys could work together to make a great app for the ML community  ;)

This video is part of a Parisian Christmas play brought to you to wish you an Happy New Year 2014.

This is the part after that Gabrielle tells everyone that she doesn't like Christmas, and the rest of Santa's elves are trying to cheers her up by dancing with some disco barley sugar.

Workflow:
Shot with RAWrec 1920x1080 24p , Lexar 64Go 1000x
Rawmagic for DNG export
Output DPX with some LUT from Resovle
Edited the DPX in Premiere
Color graded in Speedgrade via direct link
Effects in After Effects via dynamic link

Tell me what you think ^_^
And a Late Happy New Year! Best wishes for ML in 2014!

Can we hope for a 1.5 version that works with MLV+sound, and still works with .RAW also...? :-)

When you go on their download page you see all the softwares that they make, and it's only mac download...
so I guess they won't be making a windows version.

Hi, I have just tried 1.4.8 and great! but...
I did have few bugs, I guess it has to do with speedgrade not being stable enough with dng files ? I had this before too. When I use the direct link from premiere to speedgrade, it opens the files fine, OR it opens it with some greenish look... it's random, and I guess it has nothing to do with raw2cdng. It looks good in premiere, even though I think the white balance is off a little bit.

Great job chmee!

Chmee's newest Raw2Cdng 1.4.6 crash after it made the .dng, is it normal? Or it's a bug?

4) Load this LUT onto a clip(s) and it will immediately flatten and de-pink the clip(s).

My clip gets flatten a bit but it's still pink, and I can't get rid of it in speedgrade :(
Can you send a .look file of what you did to get rid of it please?

Your footage was .RAW or MLV?

I will try this tomorrow and let you know if it works.

Are you successfull importing the DNGs into Premiere? Used raw2dng it says "this file doesn't include media data".
Do you work with raw2cdng (that's extracting real cinema DNGs)?

Does anybody know where to get raw2cdng apart from the link given in the ML wiki? The page is blocked by my anti-virus.

No not succesful, pink cast, so I converted also DNG to DPX, and it plays nice in Premiere (but not so good in Speedgrade). I encountered one issue with DPX in speedgrade, I don't know how to repeat the bug, but sometimes I do stuff in Speedgrade and then the pink cast comes back and stays there, I have to quit without saving and reopen the project so it opens fine again, weird heh!

I tried raw2cdng 1.4  (which I downloaded here : http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=5618.325  from chmee post) but without success, it make the footage dark, but no more pink cast. But other people got better result it seams.

Hi Alex, what editing software are you using?
Do you think a modification in the DNG export softwares could fix that pink color in Premiere/speedgrade, I saw this question asked somewhere but with no answer, is it possible to export cdng from raw so that it would be like the blackmagic cdng ?

Share Your Videos / Demoreel made possible with ML
October 15, 2013, 12:10:29 AM
Hi guys, I wanted to share here my demoreel since all the stuff in it  (except the 3D) got shot with Canon Dslr with ML installed,
There is some T2i, 60D and 6D, used with peaking, magic zoom, waveform, audiolevel, increased bitrate, intervallometer, etc.
Here it is:

Naturally I want you to share your experiences.  But such questions can illicit annoyed responses (because if you read through the thread you'll see the dev has not been around to answer many questions), it's a shortcoming of this forum.  Just wanted to spare you that :)
Hope this gets you back on track!
Well I appreciate you help, thank you for taking the time :) I'll see if I use RAWmagic or RAW2DNG on pc.
#45
@Maxotics , thanx for the reply, but I know enough already about the RAW process and DNG debayer and stuff, I have been reading post here about RAW since it's possible and I used to convert the RAW files of my 6D with RAWanizer, now I sold it and got myself a 5D3 so I got the lastest version of RAWanizer.

Quote from: maxotics on September 28, 2013, 04:08:33 PM
RAWanizer is about the easiest most powerful post-processing tool here!

The most powerful for sure, but easiest I'm not so sure... I'm just saying it's easy to get confused, I know it's a powerfull soft, but you have to admit that the UI is not user friendly. Before with RAWanizer 0.30 it was like RAWmagic, you just put RAW and you get DNG easy, now I have difficulty just do to that :(
I get DNG+Tiff (I don't know how to not get tiff), or I get merged RAW files without DNG, and I tried to get videos but I couldn't, am I an idiot ?

It's still a beta so I know it's normal, I was just giving my 2 cents about how to make the UI simpler, feel free to tell me if what I proposed is bad, I just felt I could share my experience as a end user.

#46
Hi, I have a interface request... I know that rawanizer is a beta software, just like the shooting raw with our canons, but I don't know if some people said this before but rawanizer user interface is hard to understand, I feel I have to be a developper to know what I'm doing.
Either my install of the 0.6.0 is wrong, either I suck and I don't know how to export what I want.

I don't know how to simply export .dng like with the older versions, and when I finally get it to make DNG, it also create .tiff files which I don't need. How to not make tiff files ?
I can't make video either, from dng or tiff or raw, I'm getting fustrated trying (so maybe there is something wrong with my installation).

How about making :
                - a "Wizard tab" with some check box :
                                  ☑ DNG
                                      [..................] Destination folder

                                  ☐ Tiff
                                                ☐Full       ☑Half
                                      [..................] Destination folder

                                  ☑ Video :
                                                ☐ mp4:               choose bantwith [.....mbit]
                                                ☑ ProRes             ☑[4.2.0]      ☐[4.2.2]      ☐[4.4.4]
                                                ☐ DNxHD            choose bantwith [.....mbit]
                                                ☐ XDCAM mxf
                                      [..................] Destination folder

                - an "Advanced tab" with all the other stuff for pro.

                - a settings tab that would switch stuff for both wizard and advanced tab.

I know devs are doing this on their free time (by the way where is the donate button), and it's still a beta, but as a user I felt like giving my user experience in here since it's also why the forum is for.

How does that interface sound like (looks like) ?
#47
The update is for Premiere CC, not CS6, and yes debayer is done is Premiere.
#48
Hi guys, I guess many of you heard about the new features for Adobe CC coming out next month, I am pretty excited about few of the new features!
Basically if you are an Adobe user, here is the new workflow we will be using :

- create DNG files like usual (rawmagic, rawanizer or raw2dng or mlv2dng)
- import those DNG into Premiere
- create your proxy from the dng and start editing
- clic the send to Speedgrade button to start grading your footage,
- send back to Premiere
- switch your sequence to DNG files and render out!

This workflow is in my opinion one of the fastest, easiest there will be from next month.
I guess that Davinci resolve has more features than Speedgrade, but with that new Direct link feature things just got perfect! and now with the Mercury Playback Engine stuff it should be has powerfull as Davinci.

here are 2 videos showing quickly the new features:
http://tv.adobe.com/watch/adobe-at-ibc-2013/adobe-premiere-pro-cc-speedgrade-cc-direct-link/
http://tv.adobe.com/watch/adobe-at-ibc-2013/adobe-premiere-pro-cc-ultra-hd4kray-support/

here are is the page with all the new features:
http://blogs.adobe.com/premierepro/2013/09/adobe-premiere-pro-cc-october-2013-release.html

I just need to learn Speedgrade now...

What do you guys think about that workflow ? is it ideal ?
#49
Hi, I am following from far what's happening with the MLV format and I think it's pretty exiting, so I was wondering, do you think or hope that in the future, softwares like Davinci Resolve, After effects, Premiere, and others will read that format ? Will they debayer proxy directly!?
If that happens, it would be crazy for Canon, they'd have to hire you guys! (to make you stop that nonsense!) or sue you.
What are you thoughts on that?

General Chat / Re: Which raw camera would you get?
September 20, 2013, 10:48:39 AM
I have 3 decents lenses 35mm, 50mm, and 85mm and L lens 24-105mm, I agree lenses are important, but the lenses I want are too expensive so I plan on renting them.
I have a T2i and I just received my 5D3 (I actually thaugh I wasn't gonna get it!)

Maybe I should go ask this question in a video camera forum, since this forum is mainly Canon owners like me who love their DSLR + ML.
