Ok, this is my first time-lapse using full res silet pictures on a 5D3:

I shot 250 frames, but only 102 have come from the mlv conversion. I use mlv_dump as suggested, it give me an error.

Maybe it happened because of mlv trunks (m00, m01...)? I use a Fat32 Lexar 1000x 32gb CF. I want to try formatting it exFAT, does anyone have a suggestion on the best cluster size I can use to format it?

use:
./mlv_dump <src> -d -o <path>

Thank you g3gg0, I will try. I think I'll need also your mlv_dump.exe module, right?
Can you explain what the -d and -o parameters mean? Is there a list of parameters available and where I can find it?

Thanks again!

... I find out that I can convert .mlv file using mlv2dng! ...

In my PC mlv2dng.exe crashes when trying to convert mlv with lots of frames (e.g. 250 frames). I tried drag'n'dropping onto mlv2dng.exe only the .mlv file (not the side files, m01, m02...) and it crashes after a couple of seconds, producing no gng files.

Does anyone find that I made something wrong? Or any other way to convert mlv files?

Hi,

The "compress" and "compress lossy" options doesn't work: no conversion at all.

I report a bug using the "same levels" option (I don't know if it is already known):

when I try to export lots of dngs (over 600) windows gives me this error message:
Win32 API error 206 ("Nome del file o estensione troppo lunga.") when calling ShellExecuteExW from AgWorkspace.shellExecute

Exporting not-so-many dngs (e.g. 90 to 400) it will be no conversion at all. It works only with less than 90 dngs!

Hi!
I don't know if anyone already reported it, but I have a couple of weird aspects to report about the LRplugin (in order of relevance):

- In my pc I have the temp and applications cache folders setted on a RamDisk (for drastic speed improvement and to avoid tons of read-write cycles to SSD, and I suggest people considering this!), so this plugin is setted to use the default user temp folder, right? Is it possible to put an option for choosing a custom temp path? I'm shooting Dual-ISO clips (even 2.5k), so the problem is the RamDisk is getting full too soon (I can maintain only a 4GB RamDisk, due to the total amount of ram I have installed)! Also, I'm wondering why the plugin makes a temp copy, it couldn't make the job leaving the files in the original path?

- The "Compress" option doesn't work well: it makes the job in the temp folder, but after that it deletes the temp folder without copying the results in the original path, so there's no final file!

- If I try to enbed the original CR2 (in case of video, changing the extension from DNG to CR2 before conversion), the original CR2 file is not deleted.

- the "skip-existing" option doesn't produce any difference. I think without flagging it, the plugin should overwright existing files (or at least ask to do so).

Thank you,
Lorenzo

Nicely filmed. Good composing, wonderful surroundings. Gives a more photographic feel. Hope Alex is watching :).

To get more seconds try filming without liveview. Hack on.

...

Thank you! I forget to say, some clips are stabilized in post...
Without liveview? you mean Powersave options in ML menu? What other options you suggest? I normally shoot 2.5k with theese:
Canon options off (auto lightning, noise reduction, etc.)
MLV sound off
Dual-ISO -3 or -4
Exp. override on
Exp sim. on
GDraw off (after taking exposure)
FPS override at 23,976
Shutter fine-tuning - to match 180°
RAW MLV on 2560x1090, aspect 2.35:1, Preview ML Grayscale, Status none, SRM job memory on, extra hacks on, fix black on, Card spanning on, Reserve card spase on, leaving the rest to default values.

The flickering could be because of grading in adobe camera raw. Since you use the the 20-bit binary drag and drop method I think
you could call the --same-levels command implemented by Alex to get a same level conversion in the conversion stages.

terminal: cr2hdr --same-levels dng enter

Sorry, or it is too geeky for me or I'm too slow for that... anyway, it's the same :)
I'm on windows (I think the "terminal" is referred on a linux machine...?), can you suggest me a way to eliminate flickering (or explain me better this "--same-levels", or any helpful link in forum)? Any good alternative te ACR to suggest?

Thank you!

Great job with the sigma! 22mm on 2.5k 14bit video with a 5D3... wow! unbelievable! The only thing missing it would be a global shutter ;) but I think this will be impossible even for you ML genius! Who knows, may be one day!

Hi,

I shooted some clips using:

5DmkIII + ML RAW Video + Dual-ISO
Lens: Canon EF 17-40mm L
shooting resolution: 2560x1090 at 23,976fps
(3x crop mode, resized at 1920x818)
Dual-ISO: 100-800 most of the clips, one at 100-1600 (the grass in backlight)
graded in Lightroom 5 - h.264 encoding with AE

I put the first free-music I found!

What do you think about?

I can only shoot for a limited time (frame skipping disabled), trying changing some settings and disabling features in ML to get longer clips, but the longest I've been able to do was 12 to 20 secs.

I used MLV Mystic for raw to dng, dual-iso convertion with cr2hdr-20bit (drag-and-drop old-school-method :)).

Then, I tryed to fix flickering with ExifToolGUI: the black level of almost all clips was already fixed at 8192 (so fix not needed), I only changed white level to 65128 (I found it is the maximum, so I always choose this value, seems like it gives more white details).

But I still see flickering! Also, in thoose clips that I moved from light to dark areas and viceversa, the exposure gradually changes (I think "gradually" thanks to the ExifTool fix): it becomes brighter precisely in the lighter areas!
WHY? Can anyone explain it? Any suggestion to avoid it? I tried to fix it in AE, but I think is it still visible...

Danne, the mod of the sigma 8-16 sounds brilliant! As it is a lens for APS-C cameras, I imagine that the mod affects a sort of shifting to center the lens as much as possible on the 3x-crop-mode center, right?
Really cool! I can't wait to read something more about this opportunity!

Cheers!

New GUI
...
Download Source branch default and rename the folder like cr2hdr.lrplugin or what you want.
If everything seems good, I'll release the v3 in second week of june.
...

Hi,

I just installed this version, and report this error that appear when I try to process a dual-iso image:

[string "MLProcess.lua"]:157: attempt to perform arithmetic on local 'isoFirst' (a nil value)

However, the image is created anyway, but LR stops elaborating (when select multiple files).

Hope it whould be useful, CHEERS!

Hey guys, hope i aint being a nuisance, but any update on the "bright dark detection error, iso blending didnt work" bug?
im really desperate for a fix

or would it be possible if the developers let us know if a fix is to be expected anytime soon, because if not we can move on from waiting and continue with an alternate method

update and notes and tutorial for the un educated people on the following problems:
"bright dark detection error, iso blending didnt work"
flickering when filmed with dual iso

using the older version:
2014.04.08\cr2hdr-20bit.exe, doesnt give the "bright dark detection error, iso blending didnt work" error
whilst
2014.05.06\cr2hdr-20bit.exe, DOES
so apply same levels in post yourself, as cr2hdr same levels parameter uses exiftool to apply same levels anyway
processes the 0 and 1 files, and to apply same levels i used, ExifToolGUI, run the program, navigate to first file of the sequence, on the right find BlackLevel and WhiteLevel, note down the values, select all the files (i found that if i select around 2000 files it doesnt process the command so theres a file ammount limitation, 1430 worked, so maybe 2k is the limit?) at top right of the gui program, click on exiftool direct, copy and paste:

-Exif:BlackLevel=2046

NOTE, the 2046 is the variable, enter the BlackLevel you noted down from first file, click on ok, itll process the files, and create a backup of the original files, if you dont want them backed up, go to options at top left > dont backup files when writing.

now repeat the procedure for the whitelevel:

-Exif:WhiteLevel=2046

again the 2046 is the variable, click on ok, once both the whitelevel and black level have been changed to match the first file of the sequence, there should be no flickering what so ever, i dont believe ACR caused the flickering in the first place, as when i applied ACR adjustments, even to extreme cases, like -100 highlights, +100 shadows, etc, no flickering was caused what so ever

Hi, I agree this way is very useful for dual-iso video flickering prevenction... but I just figure out what is another cause of flickering, sometimes still visible even after the "ExiftoolGUI-FIX":
dual-iso videos have the dark-light stripes that exchange position every other frame, I mean you have one frame as (example) line 1-2, 5-6, 9-10, etc. at (example) 100 ISO and 3-4, 7-8, 11-12, etc. at 800 ISO, then the next frame is 2-3, 6-7, 10-11, etc. at 100 ISO and 0-1, 4-5, 8-9, etc. frames at 800 ISO. This cause a little flicker, sometimes visible in hi contrasty and/or hi-iso difference situation.

Hello,

First, great plugin kichetof! I post my experiment with the intention to help developing (because I'm not a coder :)).

I just tried to use the latest 2.2 beta6 to convert a 60fps Dual-ISO mlv_raw video at 1920x448. The video was shooted in manual mode, 1/120 speed, with a samyang 85mm at f/2, ISO 100-800. Converted in LR with theese settings:

Upscaled to 1920x734 and conformed to 30fps in post. Here's the result:

As you can see, it have flickering (see the white paper) and seems that exposition changes when passing from light to dark areas (the wooden door) and vice versa... what do you think about it?

Have a question: what is "Octave"? I find this program: http://octave.sourceforge.net/, is that right? How to use it and what kind of improvements can make to this kind of workflow?

Many thanks,

Lorenzo

Will do later today..

Update.... Done =  1.6473 multiplier or 164.7 %

Hi RenatoPhoto,

how do you calculate this value for the 5D3, may I ask you?

In addition to CerioNoice.exe, dng_validate.exe and dcraw.exe, you need my "CeroNoice Bracketing.exe", which is the 'glueware' processor between CeroNoice.exe, dng_validate.exe and Lightroom.

What exactly is the meaning of "CeroNoice Bracketing.exe, which is the 'glueware' processor between CeroNoice.exe, dng_validate.exe and Lightroom"? And where I can find this "CeroNoice Bracketing.exe", if it is shared?

Sorry for the question, but I tried many times to obtain DNGs with +/-10 exp stops il LR with CeroNoice, I really don't understand how to...
The only ways that I've found since now are with PS (merge with HDR Pro), Photomatix or many other HDR softwares. Great softwares, because they have deghosting tools too, but they are expensives...

Ah ok!
So, what about the bootflag question? if I upgrade to 1.2.3., it will solve it? And if I downgrade back to 1.1.3., what append?
#39
Hello everybody!
VERY GREAT JOB TO ALL YOU GUYS!!!!

I have a question: I'm still using ML 5D3-1.1.3. version, waiting to upgrade to 1.2.3. firmware because it is an irreversible upgrade.
Do the 1.2.3. version including all the features of 1.1.3. version?
Thank you,
Lorenzo

Hello, I have a problem! Batchelor3 preview (the window for choosing RAW files that need to be converted) doesn't show any RAW file. I checked many times the path, that are the right path! I tried to download again the app... nothing! I tried leaving the original raw2dng.exe file, and also sobstituting it with the last one... still NOTHING! AAAARGHHHH!!!

I'm gonna try to explain this... sorry for my english :)
If I want to shoot an HDR time-lapse I use RAW VIDEO and HDR VIDEO together, but if I want to obtain couples of frames (e.g. 100/1600 ISO) that are VERY similar (that's the way to minimize ghosting in the HDR process) I need to use a high frame rate, resulting in a large waste of frames unused, a lot of time selecting 2 frames every lots of intermediate frames, and without the possibility to shoot for long time because of RAW video occupies lots of space, even in large CF cards. I make an example:

For a regular time-lapse I suppose my target is a final clip of 10 seconds of duration at 25fps to shoot, for a total of 250 frames. Using FPS OVERRIDE and set it to 0.500fps, so I shoot a frame every 2 seconds, my shooting session will be 8 minutes and 20 seconds long.

So, for an HDR time-lapse I set RAW VIDEO, HDR VIDEO (e.g. 100/1600 ISO) and FPS OVERRIDE at 25fps.
In an interval of 2 seconds I will shoot 50 frames, but I need only 2 frames so I will trash 48 frames every 2 seconds!

It would be useful an FPS OVERRIDE / HDR-TL MODE, that shoots 2 frames at high frame rate like 35fps (with HDR VIDEO on), then a selectable pause (e.g. 2 seconds) and again 2 frames, and so on.

May be is a good idea, may be is impossible, may be nobody cares...

Best regards!
Lorenzo

Is denoice really needed though? I tried converting with a.d; s converter version 1.6 worked good. Got some border lineproblems in the latest 1.8 version when converting 3x mode files. Im on a mac

Don't know what is "a.d; s converter version 1.6 or 1.8", think you mean some app for mac. I'm on windows...

Simply, with denoiced DNGs you have less noise on dark areas and less aa artifacts on hi contrast areas.

About flickering. Could it be postproduction in acr causing this?

No, some frames (as always the 7th frame) are REALLY overexposed! Used ACR to correct them, but still flickering is visible somewhere ...

Quote from: kgv5 on November 10, 2013, 05:44:05 PM
really great result, did you download cr2hdr "denoice" from the first page of this thread?

Agree! Exposed at 1600 ISO with AETTR (without dual iso link), dual iso set on -4 value (1600-100 iso)with the intent to recover as highlights as possible... and it did it well I think ;-)

Downloaded the A1ex's http://acoutts.com/a1ex/denoice/cr2hdr-denoice.exe
from his Reply #1523 on: October 30, 2013, 09:51:23 PM
http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=7139.msg85889#msg85889

Pay attention, the denoice funcion is available but not abilitated by default! I'm not a coder, so I created a shortcut of "cr2hdr-denoice.exe", then right click and in target link properties i added "--denoice" for activate it (must appear like "x:\...path...\cr2hdr-denoice.exe --denoice"). So I can process many files together!

I wonder why is not possible to move more than x files over the cr2hdr-denoice.exe for processing (where x > 495) or you get a windows "The filename or extension is too long" error... someone have a solution?

Don't know if this is the right thread where post it...
Shooted from a dark side of a room to outside to the trees and sky with same expo and iso values.
EF 28-135mm IS @ 100mm f/5.6 1/50sec on a 5D III with nov 04 ML nighty build.
5x crop, 2230 x 950px RAW video @ 25 fps on a Lexar 1000x 32gb CF card, Dual ISO (100-1600) processed with cr2hdr "denoice" version. Graded all frames at same settings, stabilized in post and resized to full HD.

As the 7th frame 1/2stop overexposed (corrected in post), I don't know if it flickers because of a raw video recording error or a cr2hdr conversion error.
What do you think about the result?

There is also this

https://bitbucket.org/a_d_/magic-lantern/downloads/WIN_cr2hdr_exe.zip

(It contains just the cr2hdr.exe (28/10) so you have to use the other supporting .exes from a previous download like Oct 15)

Thank you, but the change 8813: cr2hdr: moved hot pixel correction before interpolation and fine-tuned the algorithm is dated 5th of november! I'm just wondering if it means that there is a newer cr2hdr version somewere...

Hello everybody!
I'm a proud owner of a 5D3 and I use everyday ML with the latest nightly build, with many many satisfaction! Specially the dual iso feature, is AWESOME!!!

I have a question: when the changelog of a nightly says a change in cr2hdr (as the last 8813: cr2hdr: moved hot pixel correction before interpolation and fine-tuned the algorithm), where exactly is possible to download it from?

Maybe mine is a stupid question, but I follow this thread and I never find a corresponding link to the updated version (as mentioned in the changelog), and sometimes I try to download the cr2hdr.zip (from http://acoutts.com/a1ex/cr2hdr.zip), but it is the same from october 15...

Thanks guys!
