I'm sorry for keeping posting in this [IMPOSSIBLE] thread, but I just came across this list(if someone at some point comes across this thread):
http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/TagNames/QuickTime.html#Handler

QuickTime Handler Tags:
'alis' = Alias Data
'crsm' = Clock Reference
'hint' = Hint Track
'ipsm' = IPMP
'm7sm' = MPEG-7 Stream
'mdir' = Metadata
'mdta' = Metadata Tags
'mjsm' = MPEG-J
ocsm' = Object Content
'odsm' = Object Descriptor
'sdsm' = Scene Description
'soun' = Audio Track
'text' = Text
'tmcd' = Time Code
'url ' = URL
'vide' = Video Track

I wonder if any of those tags are used for reel name, but there is the code for time code.

Another question could be if the YUV conversion could be surpassed and then saved as compressed RGB in mov(or some other/better codec)? Wouldn't that give a wider color range? I mean on cameras with SD cards only.

If the image sequence is tif, png, jpg, bmp or tga and the sequence starts with 0,1,2,3 or 4 (ex. Img_0000.png) then EyeFrame Converter can be used to convert into various formats like DNxHD, Prores, MJPEG and MPEG2 I Frame HD. If there is a similar named wav file located in the same folder as the image sequence it will automatically be added to the video.

Was it a dead end to inject start t/c and r/n in the metadata in the atoms in the mov file?

If it is any help I can provide a mov file with tc and reel name. Eyeframe converter can inject them when transcoding to a new file.

On the time code atom:
https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/documentation/QuickTime/qtff/QTFFChap3/qtff3.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40000939-CH205-69831

The time code atom could be set as creation time and reel name set as either filename or creation date.

More updates:
1.7.1 New: Menus
1.7.0 By Khaver: Fixed the endless loop bug when using "o" and "f" to add image sequences and Avisynth scripts. - Added the file name into the set frame rate dialog for image sequences and Avisynth scripts. - Changed UTC date and times gathered from ffmbc and mediainfo into local time so timecode reflects local time.
1.6.9 Use file name as embedded reel name, which can be useful if an LW exported EDL with file names is needed in ex. Blender.
1.6.8 New: Key "o" opens a select files dialog and key "f" opens a select folder dialog.
1.6.7 New: Keys "h" and "c" to display a message box containing the controls(rhinox202) Conversion duration(rhinox202) Bugfix: Adding folders containing image sequences(Khaver).
1.6.6 By rhinox202 New: Proxy message removed after clicking "Convert for editing". Proxy option added to "Set export formats" window. Conversion duration added to "Conversion finished" message box
1.6.5 By Khaver New: Enhanced image sequence import. Image sequences can be tif, jpg, png, tga or bmp files. The number of frames digits is not limited to 6 places. Any frame digit length will work. The first frame doesn't need to be 00000, etc. It can start at any number. The program will find the first frame in the sequence if you don't drag in the first file. Bugfix: Fixed the problem with 25fps being used to determine the duration of image sequences and other bug fixes.
1.6.4 New: Add prefix to selection of exported file names by right clicking item in the Name row. Leave prefix entry box empty to remove previously added prefixes from selected items. - L-key opens the ffmbc_log in Notepad.

If it is possible to get the ML to inject TC and RN in the files directly from the camera, then the files could be converted to proxy files with embedded time codes. After the proxies are edited into a film in a NLE(ex. Lightworks) then an EDL could be exported and used in DaVinci Resolve Light with the original untranscoded files. From DaVinci a render of the final video can then be generated.

In other words if ML could inject TC and RN it opens up for the possibility to convert the original files with pro colour grading directly to the master, with as little loss as possible(and never mess up TC and RN).
#108
Thank you!  :) Just to try to make it as clear as possible, I mean TC and RN embedded in the metadata. Ex. Mediainfo can read this data.
#109
I've tried to read up on the various threads on embedded time code and reel name, but I wonder if there has been attempts just to write the TC and RN to mov embedded atoms(like TC as start time and RC as date(max. 6-8 characters)) and not as embedded running time code?
[ffmbc can inject TC and RN, but not in Canon mov files ???]

But mediainfo report ffmbc !   ;)

And he won't transcode Canon .mov to DNxHD because of the 1088 lines...

Take a look at this : http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=3807.0
Ah, okay AwPro, EyeFrame and Cinec are all just guis using the same "engine" which is ffmbc. EyeFrame and I think also AWPro have presets which can crop the 1088 to 1080. These two tools also offer editing and injection of time code and reel name and also generation of proxy files, but Cinec has nice looking elements in the interface.
#111
Is ffmbc.exe located in the installed cinec program folder?
#112
I couldn't install it on Win 8 and there doesn't seem to be a way to get in contact with the devs.

Is this tool ffmbc based?

Hardware and Accessories / Audio monitor cable
December 16, 2012, 02:10:19 AM
It is a lot of cable to run around with if you use the original canon usb phono cord and a phono to mini jackadapter and mini jack head  phones. Are there any alternatives? What do you guys use?

Some more updates:

1.6.3 New: Edit formats
1.6.2 Changes: - Sort all items alphabetic by clicking row headers. - Intermediate files in project folder as default. Changes by Khaver: - Increment now works as it should (no gaps in frame count). - Clips don't have to be the same frame rate for increment to work. - Frame rate edit dialog changed from up/down arrows to a text input box. You can also enter a formula in the box to get fps such as 24000/1001 to get 23.976. - Frame rate item in the list now has 3 decimal place precision for those rates that might need it.
1.6.0 New: - Add incrementing time codes to selection. - Limit reel name to 8 characters.
1.5.9 - New: Right click on Frame Rate to change fps for selection. - New hotkeys: F5: Convert for edit. F6: Swap. F7: Convert for upload.
1.5.8 - Audio in DNxHD & ProRes: Endianness: Big, Codec ID: twos Khaver: - Speedup in encoding: the intermediate creation and proxy creation processes run simultaneously. - Minor fixes.
1.5.7 New: Icons. Fix: - Avisynth frame rate. - Numeric check for frame rates.

Feature Requests / Re: [brainstorm] Digital clapper board

Have you reached a dead end on this? What about a camera beep, when the record button is hit. Is that possible? (so the external audio recording of the beep can be aligned with the first frame of the video)
#116
@ jordancolburn - I hope you'll find it useful.

Yet another update:
1.5.6 New by Khaver:
- Changed the Size column to Duration column.
- When adding a tiff image sequence or Avisynth scripts, an input box pops up so you can enter a new frames per second value.
- When the thumbnail creation function runs, it creates the thumbnail and at the same time retrieves the file info to fill in the list view items. If that doesn't supply all the info, mediainfo.dll is run to retrieve the missing info. This allows for correct image sequence info.
- The thumbnail creation command for ffmbc has been fixed so correct aspect ratio thumbnails are shown and it doesn't crash ffmbc.
- Dashes removed from reel name(max. 8 characters in Lightworks > the date).
- MJPEG HD export pre-set with time code for Lightworks free.

- Cancel of swap dialog
- Remove unused icon code
- Left-double-click to open tc and reel name

Fixes by Khaver:
- Wrap spinner
- Only numbers in spinner
- Added Cancel buttons on TC and Reel Name
- replace ffprobe with mediainfo(so ffprobe can be left out)
#118

1.5.3 New: Time Code, Reel Name and Frame Rate added(MediaInfo) or generated at import time and automatically added to exported mov and mxf files. Intermediate and proxy files from the same source will get the same time code and reel name.
#120
1.5.2 New: Setup installer. Correct ini format. Various command line corrections.
1.5.1 Various great enhancements by rhinox202
1.5.0 New: Timecode and reelname added to mov and mxf exports. If source has timecode it will be reused and if not the file creation date and time will be used. The creation date and a unique five letter word will be added as the reelname and the creation time will be the timecode. The intermediate and proxy file from the same source file will get identical reelnames and timecodes.
#121
If you like to add timecode and reelname to the files then ffmbc can do that with command line switches:
-timecode <Timecode> -metadata reel_name=<ReelName>
The <Timecode> is in this format 00:00:00:00 and the <ReelName> is letters and numbers. I've just added this functionality to EyeFrame Converter. I believe that it is possible to just add the metadata without an actual transcoding.
#122
1.4.9 Added: Collect information on files it is not able to import and give you one message-box after the import has finished.
1.4.8 - Right click to select 'Convert for editing' - format and 'Convert for upload' format.
1.4.7 New: Import of Lightworks exported tif image sequences.
- If a wav file with the root name is found in the same folder it will be imported too(ex. 'filename.wav' for a sequence named 'filename-000001.tif').
- A 'filename-000000.tif' file must be the first file of the sequence.

Bugfix: Thumbnails not correct after delete and new import.
New: Keyboard short-cuts: Del and x key deletes selection, i key shows info, a key selects all.
New: Folder with alternative export codecs ex. ProRes and DVCPRO100(rename to EyeFrame_cmd.txt and add to main folder).

Share Your Videos / Dancing clouds
October 11, 2012, 09:44:13 PM
Today I noticed that the wind didn't move the clouds over the sky(that's very atypical in Denmark). So they stayed in place to do this little dance for me:

Magic Lantern: 5 fps + ISO 100(I wish I had a ND filter too)
Source-files converted with EyeFrame Converter
Edited in Lightworks(free) with 200% speed effect.
Exported as Matrox I Frame HD 250 bit
Converted to MP4 with EyeFrame Converter and uploaded to Vimeo.

Hardware and Accessories / Re: No sound, no video
October 10, 2012, 01:50:08 PM
Hmm testing the suggested work flow once again doesn't seem to reproduce the black screen. It might have been that the Headphone mon. was off and the camera was switched on with the dslr cord attached, which results in a black screen on the camera.
