Camera-specific Development / Re: Canon 100D / SL1

Sounds great. So 4K 16:9 24fps with audio and continuous recording works?

Added a 4k preset the same as for eosm:
https://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=9741.msg210108#msg210108
4K 3x1 24fps
This preset also works with crop_rec submenu for 2.35:1. If not selected the preset runs in 16:9.

Wow, is this 4K 16:9 24fps with audio and continuous recording?
Are the focus pixels the only show-stoppers now?
(Note to self: Should I get this camera now? Already have a 60D)

Great to see you're having a go at this. At one point A1ex managed to record mjpeg: https://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=5415.msg35725#msg35725

Quotemlv_dump:
You need to disable all processing, e.g.
mlv_dump M00-1234.MLV --dng --no-fixcp --no-stripes

Reverse Engineering / Re: EekoAddRawPath

@a1ex Trying to get my head around this exciting stuff. Black magic it seems.  :P Are the 10 and 12 bit images read correctly from a computer? In other words is the distortion caused by the misinterpretation by the eeko DNG reading or writing routine, or do you think something else is causing the distortion?

Apparently not much has happened since the initial implementation back in April:

Pismo is crossplatform (mac, linux, win): http://www.pismotechnic.com/
Can it be used as an alternative to fuse?

(It was used for a virtual filesystem for Avisynth: http://www.turtlewar.org/avfs/)

Do you still experience this with the latest nightly?
(I'm considering updating to the nightly)

In Preferences, CPU, you can select work with CUDA - Open CL or AUTO. You don´t need Cuda drives. Try with this option. Maybe it´s the hard disk.
I think you use PC, because Mac have CUDA drive updated.
I'm on a PC and I don't see that option under Preferences(and I have an nvidia card supporting cuda).

Any news on the MLV implementation in ffmpeg?

I tried a static nightly build of ffmpeg on Linux (http://johnvansickle.com/ffmpeg/builds/ffmpeg-git-20140421-64bit-static.tar.bz2) but it didn't quite work for me in conversion mode.

./ffmpeg -i M12-1630.MLV test.mp4
...
(all metadata shown correctly)
...
    Stream #0:0: Video: rawvideo (BIT[16] / 0x10544942), bayer_rggb16le, 1728x972, 25 tbr, 25 tbn, 25 tbc
[swscaler @ 0x40470c0] unsupported bayer conversion
Assertion 0 failed at libswscale/swscale_unscaled.c:1655
Aborted (core dumped)

I'm getting the same error/behaviour with this file on Windows with ffmpeg 32-bit(static 21/4 & 23/4): http://we.tl/k21F8TAVEc

Great to see ffplay actually playing the mlv tough the colors are off and dead-pixels are visible.  :)

Raw Video / Re: 60D RAW video - it's working !!!
April 22, 2014, 08:29:58 PM
When using magiclantern-Nightly.2014Apr22.60D111 my camera crashes with mlv_rec, mlv_snd, mlv_play enabled, reboot and then when selecting the video tab the 60D crashes. Which version are you guys using with success?

[Edit: forgot to update AUTOEXEC.BIN too]

@g3gg0 - I'm so happy for you, that your efforts with the MLV format now are paying off. This will be the major push of MLV into all opensource editors and converters out there. Congrats!!!

I've asked for a possible implementation of MLV into http://www.libraw.org/ here http://www.libraw.org/comment/3091#comment-3091 libraw is a lib based on dcraw.

The coder replied:
QuoteThanks for info.
I've take a quick look into the specs. It looks like, there is no way to locate Nth frame without reading all previous frames, right?
In LibRaw paradigm it will result into very inefficient applications: for movie apps one need API like get_next_frame(), while photography-oriented API (with one-two frame(s) per file) is entirely different.
Without stream-oriented API, support for MLV in LibRaw will be useless.

Can any of you more tech savvy guys help me out to answer his question?

I've noticed that ffmpeg has a GSOC suggestion which includes better DNG handling: http://wiki.multimedia.cx/index.php?title=FFmpeg_Summer_of_Code_2014#Bayer_RGB_colorspaces

How about suggesting the ffmpeg folks a MLV import GSOC implementation, if you guys thinks that MLV is mature enough by now?

Feature Requests / Re: Jpeg Video
January 29, 2014, 12:52:45 AM
If I remember correctly did A1ex manage to make ML record in MJPEG. He uploaded some shots of birds in water, but that was before RAW became a reality.

You could do a search on mjpeg and see what shows up.

MJPEG would be great for us stuck with SD cards, but it is somehow hard for me to imagine that any of the devs would spend time on mjpeg when RAW is around.

If you write up/extract from the forum the workflow of converting MLV to video with the various command line tools and upload some MLV files I may consider adding  MLV conversion to EyeFrame.

I have a 60D and I haven't looked into installing MLV modules yet and therefore not looked into the conversion of them, so if you show me the way, I may follow. ;-)

Dan Dennedy(of Kino and MLT fame) released the first peek of the new multitrack timeline function of his free, cross-platform NLE called Shotcut.

It shows great promise, so check it out!

Wow what a building. I love how you captured the sunday-atmosphere of people enjoying themselves.

How do you avoid the dead-pixels with mlv_rec? What kind of tripod do you use?

Updated to use the latest RAW2DNG, the version number is still 1.80.
