Yes!
I hope that you will be satisfied with the monitor. amazon wrote that i will get it on monday or tuesday :)
vs-3 also sounded great but is a little bit too expensive for me. vs-2 seems like beeing the best bang für the buck :))

thank you so much for all your input.

so today i made a step forward and ordered a 7 inch field monitor, cause i found a light (380g) and very cheap unit.
an Aputure VS-2 for unbelievable 190Euros. it has a nice feature set and battery, sunhood and articulationarm as included tools. here is the link: http://www.aputure.com/V-Screen-VS-2/

so i hope that its what i am searching, so when i get it, i will post some review information.

some last questions:

- when i use canon 5d mk3 and firmware 1.1.3 raw recording and using hdmi monitor which provides zebra exposure visualisation, can i work with those - from the monitor calculated - informations?? or should i use the magic lantern internal zebras?

- i mean - are the overlays from ml still working with an external monitor, or not?

- does ml internal anamorphic desqueezing work on the external monitor?

thank you so much, greets. best regards, respect. swinxx

Thank you very much for the input.

I am searching a leightweight 5" monitor. Simple and not too overpriced. Cause i wanna use it with my gimbal. the 7inch monitors may be great but i have not seen a unit with less than 400grams. thats way too much for my arms. 4-5inch would be great cause i only need it to frame. for the focus i use halfshutter press to magnify it 10x. then search the focus point and preadjust.
i hoped that there will be a working reliable solution with an iphone5, cause it has a great retina display and is light. but i don´t want to compromise with lag and unreliability.

thank you.

Hello ML Forum!

i searched and found some resources but they seem a bit outdated.
so can anyone please update the 2015 possibilities for recording raw with external monitor (i own a Canon 5d MK3)

so we have hdmi output with smallhd or lilliput monitors, right? can they be used for recording with magic lantern mlv? if yes, are there any drawbacks regarding canon firmware versions?
and on the other hand, is there a working/reliable usb connection for recording raw material? with an android tables?
a very interesting option for me would be a wireless solution, cause i now own a brushless gimbal :)

thank you very much. greetings and best wished, swinxx

hello dmilligan

thank you for the explanation.
so how can i compress them with the new option?
is there a simple batch possibility to compress - lets say a complete directory..

thank you very much.

hello,

with my canon 5d mk3 i made a 50fps shoot, and after converting it to dng with mlvfs i discovered a strange pink cast in the overexposed highlights within davinci resolve. in mlrawviewer i´ve also seen this while played back the mlv file itself.
in the finder preview (mac) i can not see it.
@devs: please take a quick look at a screenshot. i made it within davinci resolve
perhaps the problem is within the fact that 50fps material is squeezed in vertical, and then needs to be resqueezed to have the right aspect ratio.
it also could be a problem within davinci, but as i also noticed that problem in mlrawviewer im not quite sure.

thank you very much, with very much respect, swinxx.

@dmilligan:

can you please give me an example of an mlv_dump compression terminal command which is working with mlvfs, cause i tried to compress a mlv but with no success.. (the file got smaller, nearly 45% but mlvfs can not convert it anymore.)
my command was:

mlv_dump -o Compressed.mlv -v -e -c -b 16 -l 9 -x <filenamexyz.mlv>

thank you very much.

@g3gg0

i tried it and wanna say thank you very much for your effort. now file.m00 is on my sd card only, and the cf splitting works like charm with no confusion (file.mlv, file.m01,...)
thank you very much and i really wanna outline that you provide fantastic support!!!!

best wishes, swinxx

Hi. Hast du connections dort hin. Hab mal angesucht, wollte dort auch drehen. Wurde aber abgelehnt. Falls du mir da helfen kannst, bitte pm. Danke

yeah, i made my moonshot with a 1000mm +3xcrop :) = 3000mm
i also bought a 1,4x extender so i am now able to shoot 1000 x 3 x 1,4 = 4200mm :)))

best wishes

nice.
i also made a short clip of the moon with a russentonne and also one scene with 3xcrop:

thx for your interest.

there are also issues with mlvfs with those files i uploaded. other takes have 3 files (when mlv got over 4gb and split up to a second one)
i don´t checked wav issues with mlrawviewer cause the files are recorded with 50fps and i only checked them within resolve and halftime speed.
but i found out that mlrawviewer plays them all back smooth and mlvfs conversion takes stutter.
so i hope that dmilligan will fix this in the next release.

update: perhaps found the problem: idx files have to be deleted (thank you dmilligan for the recommendation)

thx

#63
oh. thank you a lot.
i will try that and will get back as soon as possilbe.

best wishes. swinxx
#64
sorry, i meant at the end of the day there are missing frames.
the missing frames are within the shot. so the video is stuttering.

i´m sorry, i only use a mac machine and therefore i´m really looking forward in using mlvfs although raw2cdng is for sure a really great windows program.
thank you very much.

Hello chmee.
Thx. Only mlrawviewer is converting it right.
I recorded with fps50, perhaps thats the problem.. I dont know. Greets
#67
hi, i have tried it with mlv_dump --dng file
mlv_dump finds also the m00,.. files but however in the end, there are frames missing.

@audionut

thx for the link. but that does not solve my problem.
the interesting thing is that mlrawviewer can playback and convert the files, mlv_dump and mlvfs can not convert them correctly.
i think that when spanning to cf and sd card and also recording more than 4gb so the files are split up to more than one file on the cf card the naming structure is not ideal.
perhaps a dev could change that, or disable the option to span on 2 cards when rec >4gb splits up the files..

however, i hope that someone can help me to save my shots.

thx swinxx

@dmilligan:

thx for your help.

i tried some files with mlrawviewer with success - not all..
within mlvfs there are missing frames (i think these frames are from the sd card which do not find the way back to the source)

i am uploading the files now:
https://copy.com/ulsYvGWuzA80BCIz

in the directory 1 for example mlrawviewer works fine, but with mlvfs there are frames missing.
in the dir 2 the recording stopped and ml created many files from mlv to m08 on the cf card. on the sd card there are also many files from the same take m00,.. m08. i renamed the second charge to m09-m16 and within mlrawviewer this is also working well.

Thank you so much, swinxx

@mothaibaphoto:

i have tried to use mlv_dump as you recommended, but the frames are mixed up.
the only program which is working with some of the files is mlrawviewer.

when there are spanned files on sd and cf card, no program can handle that as far as i tried.
i are uploading some files now (but they are of course big..)

thx.

@dmilligan:

hi,

may i report a bug within mlvfs which i found today:

today i had a shoot with some slowmo takes. 50fps/5d mk3
i tried to span it over 2 cards while recording to squeeze everything out of the slots :) (CF as main and SD as secondary recording card.)

now i am at home and when i mount those files with mlvfs i get some missing frames within the take. it looks like those sd card frames are missing.
when i convert it with mlrawviewer instead, the frames are all there and it looks ok.

i stumbled upon another problem.
when the take was longer ml splitted the files on the cf cards. so i have a mlv and a m00 files.
on the sd card i also have a m00 file from the same take. when i copy them together onto the hdd the sd card files got renamed (cause they are the same m00 as on the cf card.)

on the hdd the files are: mlv, m00 and m00 2.
when mounted with mlvfs those takes are also weired.

those files are also weired (frames skipping) with mlrawviewer.

can you please take a quick look if there is something to tune within mlvfs, or how i should name my files to convert them correctly with mlvfs.

i also noticed that mlrawiewer converted dngs are bout 1.3mb and mlvfs dngs are 2.5mb

havent you implemented 2 compressing feature formats?
where can i find that, cause in the webinterface there is no compressing feature.

thank you very much. and hope to hear from you soon,

swin

Post-processing Workflow / Re: Spanned Recording Issue?
February 28, 2015, 06:32:51 PM
update:

i have tried to rename the spanned file from the sd card to m00, and the m00 file from the cf card to m01, but the frames are mixed up.
then i have tried to rename the spanned file to m01 and left the m00 file.. also no effect,..
so now i got nervous..

update2:
i also have one file where the recording stopped (10 files) mlv - m08
from m00 to m08 those files are on both cards, so i have 18 files..

if possiible i need to save those shots, cause they were great takes.

please help

thx.

Post-processing Workflow / Spanned Recording Issue?
February 28, 2015, 05:27:05 PM
Hello!

Today i went to a shoot and had an issue with 50fps recording. only 10 seconds possible. however, i tried the spanned card option and it was better.
now, at home i copied the files from both cards to my hdd.
the strange thing is that when the recording exceeds 4gb there are 2 or more files on one card, e.g.
xyz.mlv, xyz.m00, xyz.m01
on the second card (sd card) there is also one file which corresponds to those files, named xyz.m00
so when i copy them to 1 folder, the file naming is like this:
xyz.mvl, xyz.m00, xyz.m00 2...
so i have 2 m.00 files.

how should i name those files to be recognized correctly within mlvfd or mlrawviewer?

anyone knows?

thank you very much.

Birdycam 2 from Varavon.. ;) A light and perfect gimbal. The footage will get smooth, simple calibration and long lasting battery makes that gimbal just awesome. Check out the demo videos (vimeo, youtube)
