Simple: Because a1ex has stopped the development.

Yes but fullres is not working as expected with 5d ml3 123.. Have tried it and got a lot of errs.
#103
last week andy told me that the update will come within last week..
so as a cinelog supporter i just wanted to know if i can expect that update or not.
however. andy: good tip: dont make promises, just surprise your costumers. this would be a much better approach.

the same with fullres pic from a1ex for 5dmk3 123: simultaneously with the rawmagic discussion bout the violation of the rights, a1ex stopped updating the 5d mk3123 branch. in august he stated a 2 weeks latency for implementing the fullres pic in the 5dmk3 123 branch. i am waining til today, but he deciced to freeze the ml project. dont get me wrong, i wish him the best!, but now, the euphoria is waned.. perhaps he will return, perhaps not. time will show. but the problem is that people make some sort of promises, others expect them, nothing happens. that really frustrates.

so andy600. you have still 2 hours to release the "we release it this week" promised new cinelog package..
hmm..

hello andy600

thank you for chiming in :)

yes i will send you some dngs when i come home at night. however, do you you have a release date or a pre version of you luts for me to test? i have bought the cinelog c lut some month ago still waiting for the manual which you promised also some month ago.. hmm
greets.

btw. dont get me wrong i dont want to be offensive, so please forgive me..

But its the workflow and speed where resolve leaves all the other apps far behind.. So we should try to find a workflow that makes resolve rock with mlv cdngs!! Any other suggestions are welcome

@lavas:
first.. there are no stupid questions, only stupid answers :)
anyway...

here are some shots which i have graded so far:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czsOCl_cPSs

i grade footage for 1 year, and really like it. but since i had the luck to also grade some red footage, i have a problem with the mlv material when using bmdfilm cause it is much harder to get it right now. it looks ok only in 5% of all shots..

perhaps i am searching for some background info and someone can help here.

so when mlv is converted to cdng files davinci resolve import them as blackmagic raw files, yes/no? the problem seems that they are not! cause the sensor output seems to differ a lot.
so when using the raw palette in davinci, i can choose bmd film gamma, when converting it to rec709 the colors do not look right. perhaps the color matrix must be converted within a converter operation, i don´t know.
i dont want to be misunderstood, but when grading with davinci (which is the best program for that task in my opinion) i have to correct all those color issues (sensor output differences from bmd and canon) i have also tried many different luts, they all do not look right for my eyes. all the colors are shifted in a kind of subtle weird way cause the source material is not what the lut expects. yes/no?

perhaps we should shot some test charts and compare them side by side (canon - bmd) to see and correct with a converter color matrix change. (don´t know if that is possilbe?)

perhaps the problem only occurs with davinci? i dont know? but for my taste, the colors are just not correct. (i think this has nothing to do with white balance problems)

greeting sw

hello forum folks!

is it only me, or is the canon mlv material really hard to color grade with davinci? (especially skin tones and green nature (trees) are really hard to finesse!)
no lut is working really well, and with bmdfilm (and bmdfilm4k) i can not get the material look like it was supposed to look.

i work with davinci resolve 11 and dive deep into mastering the color grading craft (great book is e.g. the color grading handbook 2nd edition from alexis van hurkman).  the more i know, the harder it gets to grade skintones right. especially with mlv material.

does anyone have some tips or can provide some davinci resolve tutorial links where skin tones are treated right? (perhaps with mlv material)

thank you very much, greets.  swinxx

Shouldnt the result be the same as with mlvfs??

@baland:

ok thx, here is the log file:

https://copy.com/xmvwYt1OLGo4S8au

and yes indeed, i have some shots which have problems. here is one dng from a shot without correction applied:
ok.. i can not convert those dngs because the converting is not working :)
however i can playback the mlv file - which is too big to share.

so when the export is working again, i will put the dngs into the folder.
in the meantime i put in a screenshot with a lut applied, ok the settings seem extreme but there i can see vertical lines all over the image.
with mlvfs those lines are gone completely.

hi andy,
i used a canon 5d mk3 and adjusted the wb with the wb settings in the cameraraw options in resolve.
however, without calibration the water in the dng converted with the new matrix also looks more cyan than blue.
i made an automatic wb before shooting, so it should be calibrated right.
with push up the wb do you mean to increase the wb? or the tint?

@baland:
i tried to convert a video with the new version, when i press e a directory is created but nothin happens?
it does not work with dng and mov export here?

i have a mac system.

@andy600:
thx for the info, but please check out my post in the mlvfs thread

i have now tried out the new mlvfs color matrix.

in the following example i seperated the white of the shirt and set it to the center of the vectorscope in both shots

https://copy.com/LvhkenDVEDPDkyj2

to my suprise the blue color changed dramatically.
left side is the old one, right side the new one.

i would prefere the left side, so perhaps dmilligan: would it be possilbe to put the new matix to the webgui as an optional setting?

thx
#118
Thx for the info andy. Is there a possible chance that we get d gs with the same color output as bmd cams? Or is this only possible with a transformation lut?

Does the output from the dngs in resolve which are also transformed with your cinelog luts look different now??

Thx
#119
Whow, thx andy for your work.
Does that mean that eg in resolve the dng sequences does no more have that oversaturated look when set to rec709?
So also when set to bmdfilm the sequence should look flatter? Right?
Thx

So is the 1066x the fastest? I thought the 1000x is the one to go..?
#121
I would love to use your player to convert my files but have some banding issues for my 5dmk3, so i hope that you will implement 5dmk3 vertical stripe correction algo soon ;)
Thx

@dmilligan:
Thank you very much! Should the new update speed up the appereance of the webgui when mounting a big set of mlv files? Nice.
And should it also improve dualiso conversion?
Would it be possible to add an eject button in the webgui? Had some problems with unmounting it in the viewer..

Big thumbs up and a big Thank You for your improvements, swinxx

@baland.
very nice addons.
