I know that the format is OLD, but i really would need to convert some old RAW files to MLV fromat with my new apple M1 laptop (i dont have any other computer anymore...)
is it possible to convert those files to MLV.

Please help. i tried some tools.. without any luck so far.

i wonder if it is possible to add a feature (i cant find it yet) to change the preferred card depending what i do ->

Preferred Card for Filming -> CF
Preferred Card for Photos -> SD

This would be nice because i would like to save my photos on the SD card for simpler connection to my laptop, and save the mlv files on CF because of better speed

as my lcw variable filter broke last month (ugh.. that hurts a lot), i want to ask the community, which neutral density set should i consider? i´m not quite sure if i should get a variable again. i had always problems with the skin tones, and perhaps the issue came from my nd filter..
please get back with some insight in your sets, and let me know which would be the best choice for shooting raw video with my canon?

today i tried out my newly aquired vdslr lens with steppless aperture. one shot was filmed from f22 -> f2.8 with aperture.
in post i used mlvfs and turned vertical stripes correction on. please take a look what happened with and without vs correction:

hello, i tried to search the forum but found no result, so i would like to ask:

is it possible to convert old raw files (i have a bunch of them - normal and dual iso stuff) to the better and newer mlv format.
that would be really great because i now use mlvfs and it only works with mlv files.
mlvfs also handles dual iso files really great. so perhaps someone can provide a working solution. thank you very much.

can anyone please describe the differences of firmware 1.1.3 and 1.2.3 in terms of hdmi stream output.
what does clean hdmi within firmware 1.2.3 mean?
i have now installed 1.2.3 and used a hmdi cable with my tv cause my external monitor has not been arrived yet. however, i have seen the upper and lower ml bars, but was not able to stretch/destretch the picture with anamorphic preview option? is that intendet not to work?
however, i also read that its not good for the camera when i up and downgrade often (from 1.1.3 to 1.2.3 and back again) because the different firmwares change code within the camera every time i change the firmware and this may harm the camera. sorry, but i have never heard from such a behavior..

a1ex: is this really happening when changing firmware?

i searched and found some resources but they seem a bit outdated.
so can anyone please update the 2015 possibilities for recording raw with external monitor (i own a Canon 5d MK3)

so we have hdmi output with smallhd or lilliput monitors, right? can they be used for recording with magic lantern mlv? if yes, are there any drawbacks regarding canon firmware versions?
and on the other hand, is there a working/reliable usb connection for recording raw material? with an android tables?
a very interesting option for me would be a wireless solution, cause i now own a brushless gimbal

with my canon 5d mk3 i made a 50fps shoot, and after converting it to dng with mlvfs i discovered a strange pink cast in the overexposed highlights within davinci resolve. in mlrawviewer i´ve also seen this while played back the mlv file itself.
in the finder preview (mac) i can not see it.
@devs: please take a quick look at a screenshot. i made it within davinci resolve
perhaps the problem is within the fact that 50fps material is squeezed in vertical, and then needs to be resqueezed to have the right aspect ratio.
it also could be a problem within davinci, but as i also noticed that problem in mlrawviewer im not quite sure.

Today i went to a shoot and had an issue with 50fps recording. only 10 seconds possible. however, i tried the spanned card option and it was better.
now, at home i copied the files from both cards to my hdd.
the strange thing is that when the recording exceeds 4gb there are 2 or more files on one card, e.g.
xyz.mlv, xyz.m00, xyz.m01
on the second card (sd card) there is also one file which corresponds to those files, named xyz.m00
so when i copy them to 1 folder, the file naming is like this:
xyz.mvl, xyz.m00, xyz.m00 2...
so i have 2 m.00 files.

how should i name those files to be recognized correctly within mlvfd or mlrawviewer?

anyone knows?

hello forum folks!

is it only me, or is the canon mlv material really hard to color grade with davinci? (especially skin tones and green nature (trees) are really hard to finesse!)
no lut is working really well, and with bmdfilm (and bmdfilm4k) i can not get the material look like it was supposed to look.

i work with davinci resolve 11 and dive deep into mastering the color grading craft (great book is e.g. the color grading handbook 2nd edition from alexis van hurkman).  the more i know, the harder it gets to grade skintones right. especially with mlv material. 

does anyone have some tips or can provide some davinci resolve tutorial links where skin tones are treated right? (perhaps with mlv material)

i dont know what it is but at 1:35 to 1:41 something strange happens if you ask me.. check it out.. is this camera specific, or codec specific, or just ufos?

first, i have tried to search the forum, but with no results.. there are soo many different topics, but i can not find this one. it´s a shame that i do not know it anymore (cause i had such a problem once before)

today i had a video shoot, some of my files are mlv´s with 8 small additional files (m00, m01, m02, m03, m04, m05, m06, m07 and m08)
is there a workflow to convert this shot to normal dngs? i think one such package was created when the card was suddenly full.

would it make sense to compensate aspect ratio of the primary configuration when changing to anamorphic preview?
at the weekend i had a shoot with mixed lenses, and a really nice scene with a car to car shoot with my anamorphic lens. when changing the lens i was in a hurry, cause the sun came throught the clouds, so i have forgotten to compensate the vertical stretch in the recording settings..
when i previewed the files on the laptop i realized that i made that BIG mistake. my movie will be 1:2.39, and that take was way to small in the vertical resolution.

so to prevent that, it would be nice to change aspect ratio to match the primary settings. (like when recording slomo)

hello friends, perhaps someone can help me out here, i have a big problem, cause my raid drive is suddenly locked in the disc utilities.. all raid hard discs have locked symbols -> see the screenshot.
has anyone a solution for this problem. cause i can not mount my mlvfs drives anymore..

yesterday i had a video shoot, and i had some handling issues with focusing with my followfocus while zooming (half shutter).

so i wanna add a remote control to my setup, which should be near the right handle (grip) of the rig, perhaps a one button control - half pressed for half shutter zoom, and full pressed for video rec start.

does anyone knows such a control? it would be great if it could be placed directly on a grip..

i wonder why nearly nobody here in the forum is reacting with your posting bout eventually thinking of leaving the video side of magic lantern... that would be tragical!
as a fan of ml and a user of video and photo features i want you to know that in my opinion you are not compensable. come on man, you are the core of magic lantern.. its the same when you would delete the core code!
your knowledge bout canon, its code and all the magic lantern stuff is above any doubt.

so please don´t loose your passion - you are great!

today i installed the latest nightly for my Canon 5d Mk3 (30th July 2014)

i wonder if it is normal that when recording slowmotion video with 48 fps, the recording stops earlier when recording to both media cards with spanned files method...

ml files are on the sd card, the cf (kb 64gb 1000x) is free,
mlv is selected, also 1280 50 from canon menu.
when i record to only the cf card, the speed is better, cause i can record a longer shot before frame skipping.
when i record to both the cf and sd card, the write speed is decreased..?

is this a known behavior?

when i shoot video, i wanna stay with 1/50s shutterspeed. perhaps with a iso only adjustement? is this possilbe?

I run the 23may14 nightly on my cam and it works great! But i wonder why there is no new nightly released since nearly 1 month.
I ask because all the other cams have newer nightly builts available.

as i now own a dslr rig with a follow focus on the left side (i am left handed) i realized that it would be really great if we can have an alternate button for magic zoom on the left side of the cam canon5dmk3 with an adjustable hold time 2-5 seconds..
that would be great because then it would be possible to push the zoom button - adjust in the hold time with the follow focus..

can you please remove the grayed out top and bottom overlay in anamorphic desqueezing mode when raw is activated..  cause we dont need it when recording in raw.

I have got an lovely sharp iscorama lens which is in great shape. It should be 1.5x but is indeed 1.41x
So is it possible to add an option for a costum squeeze factor in future builds?
I know that this will probably be used by few people but it would be great if that option will be available.
If a costum is not possible it would also be great if you could add a 1.41 factor.

And one more question is: when im in anamorphic view and make an automatic wb with the rate button (which is so great and time saving) i can see an aera in the upper and lower part of the view where the automatic wb is not applied

i wonder if someone works with premiere + after effects and resolve?

when i cut raw converted cdng or dng material in premiere i normally work with proxies which are created in resolve - the problem which i have is: when i make a after effects composition and add some solids i only change the proxy and the original material stays untouchted..

so i wonder how it is possible to work with premiere and after effects and resolve when using after effects for adding effects like particels and stuff and afterwards resolve for grading?
is it possible to render out a cinemadng raw sequence with after effects?

today we started to shoot our short movie and i had some slowmotion raw shots, there was no error while shooting but when i got home, i had this broken first frame in one shot, when i load that into resolve 10like i have a corrupted greenish sequence
is it possible to repair that shot?

hello,

with a canon autofocus lens the halfshutter zoom from liveview tweaks is not working (only works with manual focus lenses.)
as it is possible to disable halfshutter focus with costumcontrol in the canon menu, would it be possible to enable the halfshutter zoom when the focus is assigned to another button..
in my setup halfshutter would be free cause i zoom with the af on button on the 5dmk3..

another interesting idea would be a button learn option.. like midi equipment and software synths for example.
so i chose a function (zoom for example) and assign it to the desired button.

or is it limited to an internal sync? eg. 4x the speed (96fps) with half the resolution (eg 960x644)for really slow motion shots.. or only a few seconds with the full res?

i like the new lv digic peaking: slightly sharper.
great addition for people who film.. and make photos with manual lenses..

so is it possible that you increase the resolution for the magic zoom too?
that would be so great because now it is so hard to decide if its focused correctly or not.
(in addition it would be great to make it possible to disable the focus confirmation cause when there is eg a splitscreen on a small sized box it is hard to see the object.)

when i am in liveview and i zoom without recording i have a great x5 and x10 resolution..
if you could manage to make that possible for magic zoom it would be a great feature.

but the only thing the camera do is beeping like wild.. and then suddenly freezes

is there a working one and if yes. can someone please explain how the module is used..?
is this a raw video shooting stuff or a picture shooting module?

Tonight i tried to shoot a star timelaps again, and wanted to shoot with silent picture mode and intervallometer.
So is it only me or is it not really possible to adjust longer exposure times in silent picture mode.. ?
When shooting in photo mode with cr2 files i can adjust up to 32 seconds..

I wanna shoot a timelaps with my 5dmk3.
It would be ok for me to shoot in 1920x1080 silent picture mode with intervalometer;)
Now i have some question and perhaps someone can help me??

1 is it possible to turn off the live view when shooting with silent pictures to treat battery with care and shoot longer.

2 is it possible to change resolution (but i dont want to crop the picture..)

3 is it better to shoot with intervallometer or better to shoot with fps overwrite?

4 if fps overwrite is better how should i set the options for day to night timelaps..

5 how can i get a 6h shoot with the camera with 2 batteries? Is there a better power supply available? I have the 2batteries adapter..

When i import a cdng file into after effects the acr window opens. Great!
Now i can colorgrade to a flat neutral picture..
My question is: how flat and neutral this should be for applying lits..
When i import into resolve and apply the blackmagic film color space, the video looks flat and it feels like loosing some color information.. When i apply a look onto that bmcc - a 3dlut it doesnt look right..
Can anyone explain please.. How should a cdng sequence be graded in ae or resolve..
Is the video really looking the same as a bmc when the bmc film look is applied, or are there different raw bits on that bmc camera..?

yesterday i shot a timelaps sequence of photos with xml sidefiles.
when i open them in adobe raw converter i can see all the files with different adjusted exposures. great. so they seem to be flicker free
how can i now change the global exposure of the shots if they are all too dark or too bright?
when i adjust one file and sync the rest, all the exposures from the xml files are useless cause the fixed values are synced to all other files..
is it possible to sync only the differences? or how do you handle it if a sequence is too bright or too dark and you want to correct it in acr..
is this possible?

today i shot my first timelaps video sequence.. puh.
i adjusted the intervall to shoot every 5 seconds, and the slowest shutter to 0.5seconds. the picture preview time was 2 sec.
everything worked as expected, but after about 5 minutes the intervall o meter suddenly changed to Shot every 1h50min...?
perhaps it was a bug? i had to turn the power off to start from the beginning.

when shooting, the mirror is always working, like when shooting a photo..
so my question is: is it possible to shoot silent, without mirror up down?

when i shoot many timelaps sequences, and i always shoot photos, perhaps 30x90 = 2700 photos..
if it would be silent, wouldn´t that leave the photo mirror counter lower..

i wonder why all my material no matter what aspect ratio i choose is squeezed?
is it possible to record it unsqueezed with 60fps (or better say 59,94fps)

when i try to emulate the raw files to look like the cinemadng files from the bmcc with color space bmd film (in resolve) they look really flat.. (i have achieved that with nearly no contrast.. )
is there a special procedure to do so?
i have seen some really great luts for the bmcc and it would be great to apply them on my canon raw material.

i have now great results when shooting photos with ettr and thanks to the raw histo and ettr hint. i always have an eye on this when shooting raw.
the automatic adjustment when press 2x half shutter is great and a real time saver in photo mode. but when shooting raw video it always breaks my 180° shutter rule..

is it possible to optimize that for video? (with the 180degree shutter speed rule..?
does that make sense?

so when i shoot raw, with a manual lens (aperture for dof and my fixed shutter speed (1/48sec)) then there is only the ISO setting which can be changed for setting up exposure.

so what i think would be a great time saver, press 2xhalfshutter for adjusting the exposure automatically with the iso
i know that this can be done easily when changing iso, but it would be a much faster one button solution.

i know that there is no need for a profile when shooting raw, but there must be some specs cause the blackmagic cinema camera raw material looks really quite different.

wouldn´t it be useful to simulate that "flat raw picture style".. ?
have seen some really great material from the bmcc and there are some luts in resolve for getting great color and great contrast with a lot of detail..

We all know that when shooting raw and globaldraw is turned on, performance is suffering, but the info from raw histo is great for adjusting exposure (ettr hints )

So wouldnt it be possible to add a feature to turn globaldraw automatically of when starting to record?

That would be a great feature!

What i also noticed is, that anamorphic correction only works when globaldraw is set to pn, so i wonder if this menu shouldnt be moved to the globaldraw menu page,
